As I listened to Matt singing, I almost heard Frank Sinatra at the same time. They both sing it magnificently, but I think FS gets the nod, but only because I've heard him sing it so many times & only just heard Matt sing it.
I was brought up listening to these lovely/beautiful songs from Matt but have never seen his face. Modern computer technology and kind/great people like you bring these videos to us so that we could see their faces, styles, charisma in real performances made it all the more enjoyable. The memories of what I was doing while listening a particular song over the radio(a rare and treasured luxury back the in Hong Kong) are priceless and heart-rattling joys and pains while growing up.
I remember my graduation day in elementary April 26, 1970. this song hit the Philippine airwaves on that year. This is the best version. Thank you for posting this.
I had never heard this recording before, and I am so grateful to you for posting it. Of course, this will forever be associated with the man whose picture you include at the end of the video - the Chairman of the Board, Frank SInatra. That said, Matt Monro brings a real poignancy and some quite remarkable phrasing to the song. This is superb - comparisons are raraely valuable. Two diffrerent singers, two different performances. Both great.
@brenda13552 you no when y listen to miister matt monro songs y becom warm on my hart and saul some time y becom sad sometime y feelhappy y mis matt monro y wis hi can com back brenda
matt was a real gentleman when he was a bus driver on the 27 route buses that go to richmond surrey back in hte 60s he use to sing all the time and my cousin who was matts clippie at the time said back then hes voice is the softest voice she had ever heard. you are sadly missed matt....................
Very nice version. Matt Monro is one of my top favorite artists. I love most of his songs. Thanks for the upload of this classic oldie. Forever treasured and cherished.
@keidz33 its a common joke in the phillipines that this song is worth dying for. a singer who sings this badly will get himself killed. and a bad singer would really sing this song even if it will mean his death...
I think this beats Sinatra's as it 's softer and more encompassing. No one 'owns' a song. If someone does it better, then , great it is adding to the great human achievement that we call life. IMHO
Great video and song and it's great to see good people such as yourself playing their part in keeping the memory of a wonderful singer alive!..many thanks
I love Sinatra's version, but Monro has the better voice. Sinatra had the orchestra raising the bar with him.
I do think Sinatra's voice was perfect for this song though. The song reminds me of an old man on his way out on his terms, and that makes Sinatra's voice fitting.
Matt Monroe's voice is too soothing for this song. Sinatra sounds like he really doesn't care (from his tone of voice), but Monroe sounds like he's reminiscing instead of being assertive.
I agree with you; this, being a good version is not better than Frank's, only because it was his time, his life, and his tone. Nevertheless, a few knows that the original song, a French song, means a different thing. Its name is "Come d'habitude" and the first singer was the famed Claude François; it is also in Youtube if you do not believe me. There are versions in other languages; I remember one in Spanish by Andy Williams, but is not yet in Youtube.
With all due respect to Sinatra, while I agree the orchestra version on Sinatra's is more powerful. Matt Monro voice I personally feel is more pure and flows better. There is a feeling of being touched to the soul with Monro's voice, something I don't feel with Sinatra's. It's a shame Monro came out at the wrong time. If he had come before Sinatra, I suspect he would have been bigger. Matt Monro a voice that flows like silk. From a 24 year old fan.
oh, so this is the famous my way.... in our country, especially in videoke bars, those who can not sing this song perfectly are shot by some people who hears it. Freaky, right? so in our country better not sing this song if you can't sing it nicely.
hahah Chan...am sure you're in the Philippines too like i am...RIP too to the videoke singers who've found their way to heaven (or other end?) after or while singing this song in videoke bars.
I am not really a crooners fan but Matt was a lovely singer and I've always liked him. For my money he was the best at this particular genre than Sinatra, who is vastly overrated. Thank you for posting this, my favourite version of "My Way".

Paul dijo que esta cancion la escribio especialmente
para Frank.
Cuando le preguntaron quien mas podria cantar esta cancion,
contesto Elvis,
Y agregamos Matt tambien!
