I get playable framerates (that doesn't mean it's always smooth). i7 960 with a GTX 470. To be honest, it really doesn't matter how powerful your rig is. This game is just poorly optimized for the latest processors. Hell, you might be better off has a processor that's a generation or two old.

my friend loves it but i think it sucks beacuse everything but the graphics are mediocre to bad and graphics are not everything in a game. the story the gameplay and the multiplayer are way more important (my opinion)

I think Crysis is one of the worst games I´ve played. It can be a bit fun with some mod (want to try the DeLorean mod).

I prefer old graphics, because they look better (not more realistic) than for example Crysis graphics.

You still could lower your resolution to 1600x1200, and it won't kill your fps as bad if your using a simple monitor like a 22-30 inch. If your using a HDTV then well.. Leave your resolution the same. But change it if its a monitor you are using. Will save a TON of fps.

About nothing, the game already has so low fps, fraps don´t take much at all.

The fps I´ve written in description is without fraps, with it I get maybe 2-3 fps lower.

In the places I get 30-40 without, I maybe get 5-10 lower.

I think it´s the best game ever, so it´s worth the try if you ask me.

I think you should clock your CPU higher to get good performance, like 4GHz. This game only uses one CPU core.

Your graphics card is probably enough, about the same performance as mine, but you may need an extra card for the PhysX, a 8800/9800GT or somehing.

Don't tell him to overclock his CPU to 4 GHz, that would destroy his computer!

Overclocking can actually be very dangerous, and as his CPU is amazing (it's actually better than what you have) he doesn't want to ruin it.

His card is a little better than yours so he should be fine there. Using another card for PhysX is not worth it as it doesn't really affect performance very much with the more powerful nVidia cards.

The GTX275 is a little better than the 280 or comparable to it. It's pretty much 2 GTX250's put together.

i like it, but its just so unoptimized and glitchy. my gtx 285 lags awfully with high settings. it also has 0 multithreading, but the story seemed good. i only did the demo and there isnt much plot development at all

Lower the resolution, then you get way better fps. I got a 30 fps boost by lowering from 1920x1200 to 1280x800, but it doesn´t look so good then, if you only could choose "run in a window" :(

right i down loaded the tech demo. first thing that struck me was how damn fast the demo ran! this was at a lowish resolution (1360x768) with 8 af on and the rest maxed. i averaged about 50 frams there. so i cranked it up to 1920x1200 damn the detail was amazing but the loss in fps was huge like 20 or 30 ish average so i knocked the AF off and it helped a little but i think ill have to settle to a lower resolution like 1360 x 768. i like a smooth ride then a detailed slide show.

You have a bit better clock on CPU, but what resolution? It seems like it makes a pretty big difference, I usually play in 1920x1200, but yesterday I tried in 1280x800 and at least in the beginning of the game, I have 50-60 fps compared to max 30 in normal resolution.

That 's because it is CPU bound, heavy physics on the CPU. The only chance for somebody to play this game in a playable manner with a single core CPU is to offload the physics from the CPU and assign them to PhysX (either a single nVidia VGA or SLI tandem or descrete second nVidia VGA exclusive for Physics).If you have single core CPU and ATI card, even 4870X2 X2 in Crossfire, this game is a no go. Of course this (single core CPU and 4870X2 quadCF) is an overkill, but I give an idea...

Opty paired with ATI 4850 and 1.5 GB ram gives 15 fps avg (and frequent 0fps stuttering because of lack of ram and 7-8 fps slowdowns because of lack of VGA powah) @ 1920x1200 AA on, 16xAF, all maxed out, but shaders 3.0.

Lowering details even at lowest possible settings (800x600, all low, shaders 2.0, no AA/AF) would give a very small boost like 22-23 fps avg (compared to 15 fps all maxed out).

I'v played fear 1 plus one of it's expansions, and i can say that FEAR 2 is both more destructable and atmospheric. Fear 1 was just full of predictable and static little scares where as in FEAR 2 it has full on AI that's built to freak the shit out of you (ghosts, abominations, revenants) and with a larger array of colors in FEAR 2, and having fear 2 take place in more areas then just an office building, its very much more atmospheric. Handle FEAR on Max?

Have had the card since october, I get bad fps in FEAR actually, but that´s because the game is not optimised for high/widescreen resolutions.

In FEAR 2 i get 80-100 fps mostly, on max with full aa and af in 1920x1200.

I've heard this is decent, but the combat looks terrible.
