What's wrong with liking hamsters and origami? I work with kids this age, and the boys are into similar things: pets, legos, the latest toy craze (it was bakugan, not sure what the latest thing is), and video games. I made an origami crane in front of one of my fifth-graders, and he wouldn't rest until he knew how to do it too. Plus, they're in Japan. I think it's great Michael took an interest in part of Japanese culture.
