  • muy buen video!!!!!

  • the ground game is underrated in modern judo.many judoka disrespect this way of winning. i won a complete turnament because most of the competitors didnt have ground skills....

  • 2:23 I know he was beat tired because ive seen the match, but that is what happens with a failed Uchimata Makkikomi! Huzinga is a beast.

  • i think the time limit on the ground is nice because it speeds up the fight when the fighters know they will be stood up while in BJJ there is plenty of time given to advance a technique, i do wish it were a bit longer though because I have faced people who have just tried to sit in a defensive position for 5 seconds and not let me advance so we get stood up, I know its just playing the game but I wish we had a bit more time on the floor, 5 seconds is cruel. (the pin count is nice though)

  • @hillpaintball i think they should just give you 30 seconds total from the second one of the hits the ground with 3 points ( for instance knee's and a arm) a 30 second countdown should begin and in that time you can do your stuff

  • The armlock starting at :50 is great, before this I'd only seen it used in Sambo.

  • I see that most of these submissions were done by Brazilians.

  • @84justincase and invented by the japanese.

  • @84justincase And you could also see that most of these submission were done by Japanese judoka of the Kosen flavor BEFORE the Brazilians ever put on a gi.

  • I think BJJ Is way more effective, but I got to say watching Judo grappling makes it look alot more intense

maybe due to all the limitations in the rules, especially the time limit

  • did you see huzingas transitions.

  • Creo que la gran diferencia entre el Judo y el BJJ la hace el practicante y no el estilo.

  • "Come in my world: The Ground" R. Gracie

  • Tmenov is a God amongst insects. Such a great Judoka, so fast for a big man.

  • although judo is played as a sport its rules were made and are still being made to emphasise good self defence. we judoka's look for high powered throws to end and confrontation instantly and if that fails look for a quick choke or arm lock to finish it. thats why our newaza has strict time limits because in the streets you dont want to be fighting on the ground for very long. also pins are understimated a good pinning technique allows you to hold an opponet long enough to use effective strikes

  • @tyebo87

Actually time limits on the ground were placed because Kosen Judo practitioners made newaza so popular in national competition, and because many viewers saw it as boring. It was basically stripped down to make it more of a spectator sport.

  • @lamesurfer101

no, kano made up the time limit because judoka shouldn't neglect the stand-up grappling. the fights were too often going to the ground on purpose so he limited the time.

  • @initdialog

I think we said the same thing two different ways. The fights were going to the ground too often because Kosen Judo practitioners were trained to take it to the ground and use Newaza. Kano wanted to limit this behavior, because he wanted a balance of two skills. What ended up happening is that Judo practitioners have lost their prowess in newaza.

  • @lamesurfer101

judo became so bad because of the olympics. since judo became a sport, it degraded continuously.

bjj will suffer the same fate in a few decades.

  • @lamesurfer101

    What's a Kosen Judo ?

  • 1.20-1.30 is absolutley sick

  • One of the best Judo videos on Youtube

  • i love it!!!

  • @holdyerground1. ......was judo not derived from ju jitsu?..... Yes....... Hence the "watered down-ness"..... Don't take what I say as disrespect, just saying what I know.....what good has your last comment done? Educate me then.

    -peace

  • @Dillingerescplan: dude, people seem to be beating on you, but you are right.. judo is a sport, awesome self defense as well, but jiu jitsu (not bjj) is a killer martial art: concealed weapons, dirty blows, you name it. They taught 2 different kinds of Jiu jitsu in my dojo and they were fun to watch.. I still prefer Judo though...

  • @dunkelblau2006 lol finally thanks

  • @nano how is a submission easier than a pin? Everyone knows position before submission...as in a pin is necessary before you move to a submission. A submission is is the result of taking advantage of a position(pin). How can a submission be easier than a task which preceeds it?

  • nicely said.

  • hmm i like newaza or kosen style better than BJJ...the time limit makes it more exciting and less laid back..but dont get me wrong BJJ shines on its on rite...

  • bjj is laid back? lol....

  • yeah ..what i meant is its kinda relaxed compared to newaza due to the fact that it doesnt have the pins..although it may gain you points but unlike judo when you hold them down..for 20 or more second you win..

  • guess you can say judo is more of a sport then? because a fight doesn't end if you hold someone down for too long

just rule differences nothing more, dont think either is relaxed to be honest.. or even one more relaxed than the other( but these all all opinions mine and urs)

  • yeah i agree..but in areal fight especialy vs. a group would you in your right mind pin a guy or pull guard esp if one haqs a weapon?i think not hehe..that would be a ctastrophe well its just my opinion heheh

  • true

there is a difference between judo/bjj/any martial arts vs real fighting

lol @ pulling guard ...for sure that won't end well ;]

  • so if we are talking in the sportive sense i must say that each of them is good one is more on power one is more on wit combine them and it wud be very very interesting hehe

  • to be honest they are both exactly the same

bjj has incorporated many of the judo throws and takedowns (this is when bjj was developing by people like osvaldo alves and others)

even tho i practice bjj, there is really no reason for bjj to exist considering all the moves already exist in judo.

i DO think that the growing popularity of bjj and the rule differences(w/ judo) bjj has become more technical on the ground and judo with its stand up.(yet again all opinions)

  • Pin win was iirc based on battlefield thought of pinning opponent and pulling dagger to finish him. Originally time limit wa three seconds, but they discovered it unrealistic and changed time longer.

  • @Taistelukalkkuna true that in the street it would take longer to punch out or eye gauge them xD

  • judo is derived from jiu jitsu...the ground fighting with a weapon is part of jiu jitsu....judo is the watered down version of jiu jitsu...made as a sport

based on the thought of the battle field...to an extent

i have nothing against the pin, its just an anti climactic "finish"

since it is sport and not a battle field i see no point in not finishing the opponent with sub

    -peace

  • @Dillingerescplan Pinning your opponent for 25 seconds is often more difficult and less efficient than moving into an arm bar or a choke. If you can successfully pin your opponent for 25 seconds to score an ippon then you deserve to win - anticlimactic or not.

  • "Judo is the watered down version of jiujitsu...made as a sport"

What ignorance. Maybe you should read up on Judo, and no, not just the wikipedia.

  • @Dillingerescplan

I guess you read in wikipedia the article about Judo, no?

Judo is not a sport. It is not a down-watered version of Ju Jutsu. You have no idea about Judo so please stop embarassing yourself.

Judo is built upon one principle: Maximum efficiency with minimal effort! Kano took only techniques that matched this principle. It was never meant as a sport but as a philosophy!

Judo is made of 21 japanese Ju Jutsu Ryuha (schools). I know 19 of them.

  • lol embarassing my self? thanks for embarassing yourself....." Kano took only techniques that matched this principle."....taking some and leaving out others = watering down

Thanks for proving my point / embarassing yourself for not understanding what YOU yourself are saying / not knowing the english language.

i love judo / hate how you all misinterpret what i say as me hating judo...

  • you love Judo but still have no idea about it.

English is my third language and i know it good enough to communicate. what languages do you know aside from English my friend?

Judo is not a watered down version since there is no one Ju Jutsu! there are many Ju Jutsu schools. he summerized the moves that fitted his principle. since judoka won in over 90% against ju jutsuka, you can say he took the most efective moves.

i misunderstood you? you said Judo is a sport and it's NOT!

  • btw i know 3 languages as well...english is my First.

explain to me how someone can summerize a move?....that does not even make sense ...as you said before, some moves were taken and some where not....that my friend is watering down.

"you can say he took the most efective moves." proving my point yet again, thanks

    -peace

(feel free to send me anything you want about judo)

  • than we have different opinions about "watering down".

with summarize i mean to take all those techniques into one system (Judo). kano also added his philosophy + his teaching methods and created judo. because Judo is far more than only techniques.

if you want i will send you few articles.

  • ya sry but what watered down means isn't an opinion.

It is not philosophy which differentiates one martial art from another, it is technique.

    lets agree to disagree.

    (thanks for the links btw)

  • "It is not philosophy which differentiates one martial art from another, it is technique."

no my friend or else BJJ would be just called Judo. it has derived over 90% of techniques from Judo. is BJJ = Judo? no!

the teaching methods, the strategies and philosophies are different. you can add more throws to BJJ and it would still be called BJJ and not Judo, don't you agree?

  • Here is a copy of my OLD post (word for word)

to be honest they are both exactly the same

bjj has incorporated many of the judo throws and takedowns (this is when bjj was developing by people like osvaldo alves and others)

even tho i practice bjj, there is really no reason for bjj to exist considering all the moves already exist in judo. i DO think that the growing popularity of bjj and the rule differences(w/ judo) bjj has become more technical on the ground and judo with its stand up.

  • i agree 100% i said that in my old post .. here ill copy and paste it for you

  • BJJ has been evolving under different competitive pressures than Judo for a long time now, so the strategies are obviously very different.

But I'd argue that the teaching methodologies are identical, a combination of partnered drilling and extensive sparring (rolling/randori) with progressively increasing levels of resistance. The format should be instantly recognisable to practitioners of both arts, even if some of the techniques may seem a little esoteric to them (this works both ways).

  • "We can say that Judo is an art because it is a method of arriving at self-realization and true self-expression." - Jiichi Watanabe and Lindy Avakian

    or with Kano's words:

"The purpose of my talk is to treat Judo as a culture, physical, mental, and moral -- but as it is based on the art of attack and defense, I shall first explain what physical Judo is."

  • Send me!!!

  • (copy of my post)

  • I looove this judo HL! The newaza has gotten more intricate than it used to be. Excellent.

  • Piss off

  • what?

  • excellent post thanks

  • I love your ne waza, nice juji gatame

  • Good judo i this clip. Beautiful.

  • I'm so glad to see an all Ne-Waza vid! I am sad that Judo is focusing less and less on groundwork these days.

  • I'm in agreeance with you. I feel like the spirit of Judo is being sucked out year by year.

  • lok at the kosen judo.... then you will see thrue Newaza!

  • i have to bend over u,that vid is great...

I didnt Tmenov was that good on newaza

  • here we go!

then arm bar your ass :").

  • Flavio Canto from Brazil rules !!!

Great fighter, almost as good as my sensei José Henrique.

    Judo Saiko !!!

  • judo rules!!!!!!

  • this video is

     very good !!!

  • --Maravilloso!!!

  • YOU SEE THAT BJJ! BRING IT! JUDO OWNS!

  • i didnt see anthing here to indicate that judo is any better than bjj.

  • What Khaledonia meant was to raise awereness to bjj fighters that judo is also composed of ground fight and ideally stand up + ground beats ground only. However individual fights depend on the specific competitors more than the style they use.

  • i like how people give me thumbs down, but honestly until someone gives me a reason why this video proves that judo is better than BJJ, im still right.

and by the way im not saying either is better, cause it depends on A. the practioner

and B. the person thats attacking them

  • bjjallday, yea u're right. judo can beat bjj and vice versa. it just depends on the person.

  • Except for the fact that BJJ practitioners are usually the biggest pricks around.

  • you call bjj practioners pricks but yet you try to stir up a shit storm on youtube... kill yo'self

  • are there two songs or only one song?

  • the second is a remix of a song with the title harder, better, faster, stronger

  • hey whats this song? its an awesome vid

  • The Chemical Brothers - Hey Boy Hey Girl

  • Thanks man

  • Great stuff, good music choice.

  • great video!!!

  • Thanks as always
