  • check out the live performance of this song by al green on soul train. it's life changing

  • Love This Song <3 MJ <3

  • i like it! :)

  • @azdrifter520 asshole

  • yuck!! i see why Motown put it on the shelf

  • DUDEEEE!!!! UB40... Dang MIke...

  • Such a shame. This recording shows why MJ was so angry with Motown, they always restrained his vocals. This song would of been awesome if they had allowed him to sing it his own way.

  • this is such a disservice to the original Al Green version....this cover should have never been attempted....nothing can touch Al's version.....no disrespect for MJ, his stuff was good in his own way, but he can't hold a light to Al for this song or anything in this vein....

  • @dixonite

The problem was Motown and how they wanted him to sing. MJ complained about how they made him sing songs, he hated it. This is why MJ's version is so uninspired and boring. Even the production is whack. The last album they did allowed for MJ to stretch out, that would of been nice to have this song recorded by him freely.

  • @dixonite it wasnt mj's fault motown was telling him how to sing songs and mj hated it he wanted t sing them his own way.

  • Check out the original by Al Green.

  • The 2:57 of this song went by before I was ready for it to but I loved it.

  • michael era o cara, o melhor artista do mundo

não ouve e não haverar outro igual

  • I have that album. I've got to listen to it. Thank you.

  • Michael de-funked it. Unfortunately.

  • Nice one! I love the picture too :)

  • he still sounds good

  • It sounds like a practice session where he's just learning the words. Please don't give me a hard time for saying so. I do love Michael Jackson and I am a HUGE fan, but I'm going to tell it how I see it, regardless. Michael has much more talent than that, even when he was eight.

  • I'm surprised Michael sang it without soul. I guess back in the day when he had no control. Al Green does it MUCH BETTER. And I am more an MJ fan than most people (is that possible??:-)

  • i got soooo excited wen i saw this because i was just listening 2 al green singing it n when i heard this..... Aaow!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • FANTASTIC,BEATIFUL!!MIKE I LOVE U <3 <3!!

  • Oh wow. This is new to me. I love it! But hey you cant go wrong with Michael.

  • NICE ONE... on which album of mike this one....

  • @13inchesDragon

This version was released on the 'farewell my summerlove' album.

Recently, motown released the hello world box with the original version.

  • @kiekerc thanks... :)

  • @kiekerc when did they release the box? :D i want it! :D

  • @fluffypillow916 It was realeased in 2009. The full title is "Hello World: The Motown Solo Collection "

  • @kiekerc I have the LP

  • much more better then ub40 much better love you michael!

    1

  • So sweet!! >o<

  • This is soul singer Al Greens song!

  • omg I Have Goosebumps all over.

  • even though the arrangement seems to drag...Michael still sings it well...That's one of the reasons why they transitioned to other recording companies to have a little more control of what they were singling...

  • nice

  • this song is sang so teasingly sexy^_^ loving it!!♥♥♥

  • ok um i'm currently falling out of my chair and dying from an asthma attack. anyone else?

  • i got a question: can someone explain to me how doing covers worked during Motown era? i'm just saying i see a lotttttttttt of artists such as MJ, Stevie, Quincy, Al Green, other 70s and/or Motown groups doing covers of each others' songs and other artists during that time, and put it on their albums. Were copyright laws more loose back then? Just curious...

  • @rtoriq did you get it explained to you?

  • @nothinglasts007 no! Still tryna figure it out...

  • @rtoriq alright well here goes...the laws werent more loose its just that when it came to Berry Gordy and his record company they were lol he liked to have complete control over his artists and made it to where most of their royalties went to him .Most of the time he would give a singers song away to another Motown group or singer without them knowing .But when the song doesnt become a hit the 1st time he gives it to another Motown singer/group thinking maybe it will become a hit with them.

  • @rtoriq

I think, I'm not positive, but most of the songs written during that era were written by the same people...or individuals that are part of the same group. You'll find that Smokey Robinson wrote a lot of songs for himself that were then covered or given to the Temptations, Jackie Wilson, The Supremes, and the Jacksons. I discovered this by just reading the liner notes of my Motown records and saw that so many songs were written by the same team. Hope this helps!

  • the K.I.N.G

  • This can't be from the 70s, simply because of the 80s Synths & Synth-Bass and Drum Machine. But its still a nice try

  • this song could of been much better, especially if it was recorded in 1975, that is when Michael started singing sexy for the girls. Also this version suffers from the bland singing and production that MJ hated. Its good but it could of been a great classic

  • so cute, his voice started to change at this time.

  • i like Al Green's version better than this, but the best version, in my opinion, is Seal's version

  • Al's version is great, but this one is a little smoother in my opinion.

  • awesome song love it it's the first time i hear this and it rules!!

  • omg!!!! i didn't expect this!! i was searching for al green and wow MIKE got a cover of this too!!! omg!!! thank you God...^_^

i love it!! i love you Michael!!!

  • wow.. not a bad version.. sounds kool. first time im hearing MJ's version of this. wow.. just when I thought I heard every MJ song

  • please i do know them apart im just saying that it sounds like marlon.

  • Comment removed

  • i have never heard the al green version, but I'm not really going to bother. I like this version ^_^

  • This was recorded in 1973 earlier in his career, probably later he would have done a better job. None of the vocal hiccups and whoops, he did later. This is more of a disco sound from the era. Sounds lackluster...not like MJ really. Doesn't sound likes he even tried. Sounds like he's bored. Downloaded it anyway because its Michael Jackson baby!!!!!

  • ahahaha lol^_^ yeah sounds a bit different but downloaded it anyway and i love it coz it's Michael!!! aw!!^_^

  • I love Michael... but this version isn't so good.... The original al Green's version is perfect, so better...

  • Michael is awesome, but he didn't do this song proper justice.

  • I think it might be the '80s arrangement though...

You should search for the original mix, that one sounds better,...

  • @kiekerc agree the Original arrangement sounds better but still not close to AL greens. And Im an MJ die hard fan but thats it

  • @kiekerc probably they didnt release it back in the 70s for that same reason its a bit weak but definately interesting as a rare material

  • @kevin1278

I like MJ`s version, but Al Green was the best on this song. I agree with you.

  • @kevin1278 yeah al green got em on this one

  • @kevin1278 agree, dont think this song is suitable for him al green version is definately it.Its always a pleasure hear MJ covering soul classics anyway.I dont think he was mature enough at the time to sing this song

  • sounds like Marlon

  • LOL, please... you sound like someone who can't tell the brothers apart... That doens't sound like Marlon at all LOL

  • @kiekerc lol

  • cute..

  • Didn't know Michael covered this song.. it's great!!!

  • You can tell his voice was maturing which makes it better.I love this picture, like he's playing a role of a peasant paperboy in the 1940s this song is awesome also.Geez!

  • Best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • he killed this! al should have gave him an award!

  • I Love This Song.Love You Michael.

  • Why did this sound so synthesized for a cover that was made in 1973? Michael could usually do no wrong, but this one is all wrong.

  • I hear what you're saying..

Like I stated in the description, this song was released in the 80s and they mixed it and added those typical 80s sounds to it.

Earlier this year, a new box set came out with all the solo songs of Michael he released with motown. The original 70s mix of this song was included and it sounds SO good!

  • What is the box set called?

  • Hello World its a 3 cd set with every Mj solo album at Motown plus never released original versions, definately worth to buy

  • yeah just bouught the Hello world this sounds crap but the original recording sounds soulful

  • i love you bro

  • like this song

  • i didn't know he did this..it was when his voice was changing but i like it..not love..just like it.

  • it's ok :)

  • I didnt know Mike did this!!! I love this song, my fave Al Green song!!!!

  • OH THIS Song is sooo coooolll, i think it has been sang and rearranged by other musician...just cannot remember who

  • Al Green (0:

i love this song, and Mike of course, finessed it. He put magic and grace in everything he put his hands and heart to...love and miss him so much.

  • oh ya Al Green...and UB40, rite?

  • by al green

  • loves gone bad

  • i am totally loving the past few weeks as I discover new j5 and mj music here on the tube. Motown had a practice of having several of their groups record a song. Then a decision was made on which version to release. That is one of the reasons we have all this unrealeased material that seem to be "covers" of other Motown artists' work.

Either way Mike is amazing and I am sad he is gone.

  • god his voice never quits...go mike..

  • i like it never heard it till now

  • this is so classic. I don't like classic but only old or classical song of Mj is my favorite.

  • I have just dusted off the 'Farewell my Summer Love' cassette I bought in the 80's as it does not seem to be on CD yet but the cassette still sounds great. Michael's versitility was astounding. As the man said 'I am not like other guys'....so true!

  • great video ....r i p michael xxxx

  • Thanks for posting.

  • No problem :)

  • pasable aunque la mejor version es la de UB40.............

  • great song. never heard of it until now.

  • i can NEVA say goodbye

  • this picture is beautiful

  • This is from my 2nd Favorite album of all time! You know my 1st!

  • Ya, so many geat songs from Micahel That I have never been aware of until now... for example look at Buterflies, and Heaven Can Wait.... there is much we are not aware of about Micahel Jackson.. Like the fact he was found innocent by the court of law.

  • sad that he had to die before people came to realise that they actually did like Michael Jackson

    RIP Michael Joseph Jackson

    I still can't believe it

  • you're messed up for saying that

  • true! but the ppl. that hurt him will get what they deserve. hopefully they learn their lesson and come out and tell the truth.

  • Yes. But I certainly don't wish that anyone would have killed the kid!

  • I hope noone does cuz its gonna be on them. Living 4 those families is much harder 4 them dying...

  • I've heard the UB40 reggae version. Never heard this version, but I like it.

  • I love this song never heard this one either but very beautiful can't wait to see your other video's you have some amazing video's an songs of Michael thanks for posting
