This was my uncles favorite song and when he passed away a few years ago they played this at his memorial. I will never forget this song and what it means to me.
To understand just how remarkable Waits' vocal performances are, you only need compare this to Norah Jones' version. Musically there is nothing really difference -- the difference is solely Waits' voice and how he uses it to inject real pathos. Jones' version is nice enough, Waits' is positively heartbreaking.
Ive been a ridiculous fanatic of Tom Waits since I was a kid (im 35 now). I actually cried when I wasn't able to make it to his inductee ceremony for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame....but whats with the girl playing pool in lingerie.
The Orphans CD.....wow.......I never get tired of listening to it. One of the most underrated, misunderstood, songwriters of this century. Only a narrow minded imbecile would scoff at his talent and his work......Live long, Tom.
Wow i must have played this at least 12 times today. I cant get enough, his songwriting is just untouchable. its the simplicity that gets you...Unreal
@Auralas Oops - I am humbled - I chked with god Google - (u r right) and besides it makes the song more incredible. Tnks fr the bona fide. I blew a shift. The BC bud and six tall tends to do that to you - (fait attention - take care)
@GodotheInfantry -I pray you take the "long way home" but more important...you make sure you get your ass home. When your feet hit American soil, you e-mail me at-jaxtraw51@comcast.net.My name is Jack and dinner for you and yours is on me.This is no bullshit.Stay safe and stay in touch, Jack
Hi dude, how are you? Much respect for the job done in Iraq eventhough war is hell i presume. I am only a swiss guy (geneva, french speaking part) we are a neutral country so war seems so unreal to me. Though we have one thing in common: tom waits, he is my favorite singer, the lyrics are so poweful!
One of MANY ~~TW's songs, Addicted to the man's music. My drug of choice is TW's Voice, Lyrics, ............ ya feel Must admit to other musical addictions!
