Thank you so much for posting this.. Pee Wee Hunt was my grandfather! I have never seen video of them, just still pictures! I was lucky enough to know him when he was alive. I cant wait to show this to my mother, she could probably name everyone for you!
@missanimalcracker Thank you for your kind reaction - and a personnel identification would be very welcome indeed! Did Pee Wee leave any scrapbooks, pictures etc?
@missanimalcracker Hi! Kenny Sargent was my grandfather! I have so many pics of the band...I saw a video and could kick myself for not saving it because I can't find it now.
Best film I've seen of the Cada Loma Orchestra. A few years ago I visited the band archive in Northeastern University in Boston, seeing there Glen Gray's WW1 service cap, some wonderful pictures of the band and a number of wage books showing what big earners they were around the late 1930's. Remember cutting my finger on a document, leaving a little unintended trace of myself. Wonderful!
@harryoakley There's plenty of McKinstry DNA in the US! Ray McKinstry played tenor on Muggsy's 'Big Butter and Egg Man', and Union Army Chief Quartermaster Justus McKinstry was court-martialled during the Civil War for allegedly fiddling money while supplying the St Louis area armies! Not to mention the McKinstry who fired the first anti-aircraft shell at a Japanese plane at Pearl Harbour. Therer are far more McKinstrys in the US than in Scotland.
No Name Jive. In fact there's a better version, The New No Name Jive which they recorded in the early '60's. What a difference with modern recording techniques.
As "RatPfink66" stated, this is indeed a shortened, yet faster version of the CLO's hit 2-part 1940 Decca recording of "No Name Jive".
Don't recognize the 2nd trumpet soloist, but I'm pretty sure that's Sonny Dunham just before forming his own band on muted trumpet, Clarence Hutchenrider on clarnet, Pat Davis on tenor sax and Murray McEachern on trombone.
@SwingMan1937 I could be wrong but I thought that was Lon Doty playing the Evansy tenor. The second trumpet solo is the ill-fated spectacular Corky Cornelius.
2.50 is genius, love the trombone player warming up his hands on the trumpet soloist because he's ON FIRE! Plus you see the trumpet player to the left later mouth the words 'that's terrific'. Couldn't have said it better myself.
I am trying to find a clear copy of C Minor Sharp performed by the Casa Loma Orchestra... I have a fuzzy, distorted copy. I am looking for the one that was featured on the disc Live at Meadowbrook Ballroom. Anyone have it? Please post it! :)
It is not really a left-handed trumpet; only the bell has moved to the right which is actually not all that unusual and easy to modify. During the clarinet solo it can be seen that the tuning slides have remained in the same position as on a right-handed trumpet.
Alas, I don't know. As far as I know this film soundtrack is not available on CD. However, the band may have recorded this tune on 78 - which might have been reissued.
@Bajsroligt The name of the tune is NO NAME JIVE. This version is faster and a little differnt fromt he classic recorded version. (See the 4.24. length YouTube version with the LP record on the front page.)
That was absolutely fantastic!!! I never saw the Glen Gray Orchestra on video....was Sonny Dunham in the band at that particular time? Thank you...I saved it as a favorite.
Doesn't look like the 41 band to me. More like 44?

@sammckinstry Something for the feds. "Casa Loma Orchestra archives contaminated with foreign DNA!".

Definitely a faster tempo then the original Decca. Bands tended to speed up numbers as they became more familiar with them.

And, of course, my man Tony Briglia on drums. :)

@tenorsfan Well, I'll be - you're right on, tenors. Doty was more or less fresh from Larry Clinton's outfit here, wasn't he?

Check it out, the trumpeter in the 2nd trumpet solo has a left-handed trumpet. I've never seen that before.

This is "No Name Jive." It was quite a hit for the CLO as a 2-sided 78 single.
BTW, this is a WWII edition of the band. I don't recognize any of the soloists from the ealier band.

@Bajsroligt It's a long time comming, but to answer your question, the name of the tune is "No Name Jive".

Trombone solo allright, but this is not Pee Wee Hunt, the bespectacled gentleman, who is to be seen in the trombone section.

You are right of course. The wording of the info was incorrect.
