That's because of the "accomodattion" of some internal parts of the eye.

There are the "rods" and the "cons".

Those internal elements of the eye are the responsable of the color and light reception.

When you stimulate your eye with the same image during a "long time" period, the eye becomes accustomed to this, and if you change your "view", it still send the same image to your brain for a few seconds, even if you don't see the image by now.
