  • In my opinion probably the coolest boss fight of all times

  • Geez... her crying is part of the soundtrack??? That's just freaky...

  • Hmmmmmmmmmm. I like this new Assassins Creed song. 00:59

  • Ahh the memories, I have never been hit so emotionally until i went back to Shadow Mosses. Just fantastic

  • They always nuke the storyline of the metal gear games but it's still a good game.

  • mmm, Raiden, DAT ASS ;D

  • lol This boss literally took me like an hour since I couldn't find her among all the snow and the freaking FROGs just HAD TO keep spotting me -_-

  • @TheMistaGamer I just went on top of a building with the thermal scope and sniped her for the rest of the battle.

  • I hate this song because it reminds me that I'm about to listen to a horribly depressing B&B Drebin story. just kidding, thank god for the start button.

  • @EviLBastarD77 some how i used a railgun for the same effect on max charge

  • THE GAME IS GREAT!!!!

  • the boss fights in this game are very scary like if they came out of a resident evil game I like it

  • @irelandcool1 i just think the same thing =)

  • How was Crying Wolf able to smell Snake anyway? have to be nanomachines programmed to increase the sense of smell. I can't think of any other way she could have smelled Snake to track him on that storm.

  • @SupaKillah666 She was able to smell Snake in that blizzard only when it went downwind. But yet,its impossible to human to smell that well. But yet,its the nanomachines.

  • @DarkBlackStudios Bah! of course! I totally forgot the nanomachines. Damn tiny buggers make me forget them automatically! Nanotechnological robots that enhance perception of either smell, sight, pain, taste, hearing or even all of them. I wonder if any of this will be possible in the future.

  • @SupaKillah666 They are working on something like that, actually. They are finding a way to "hack" the brain of the soldiers in order to enhance their senses and abilities, and to relieve them from the stress of battle. There's also some special eye connected to a network that would display info about friends and foes. There's also some kind of paint that changes color acording to environment. All of this is being researched by DARPA, of course.

  • @neoshenlong "I never asked for this... and war has changed"

  • Awooooo! Lol Ric Flair's daughter? =P

  • HOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWL [right after cut scene and its time to rumble]=)

  • So I found out, that a good way to get her if you replay your old file, is to nail her with the rail gun a few times :)

Also, does anyone know if the Big Boss Emblem still counts if you use Stealth Camo?

  • @xdiexdeadxenoughx no you have to play through the whole game without using the bandana or stealth. Along with not being seen ONCE, not killing any1

  • @xdiexdeadxenoughx You probably already know this because you posted this comment 2 months ago, but here we go. No if you use Stealth Camo it voids some of the higher level emblems same with bandanna. Sorry for late reply.

  • sad... so sad.... SO SAD I COULD DIE!!!! -howl-

  • Snake is the reason Wolf is crying.

  • forget the sniper rifle... the RPG took care of that crying puppy.... :)

  • @ultramegatrion No, forget the RPG. The Javelin and Stinger Missile (MKW - somthing) took care of her.

  • @KGOperative2012 wow! i didn't try those i will next time :)

  • @ultramegatrion I just whipped out the anti-material rifle that took down more than half of her HP. "POW! You are dead, not big surprise."

  • it woulda been better song if there was distant crying in the BGM of this song XD

  • MGS is the only video game series that has yet to disappoint me. from MGS 1 on the PS1 to MGS4 on PS3, even those on PSPs, all of them delivered the best gameplay, storyline and cutscenes ever made for a video game. nothing can even come close.

  • @teddyshah I second that 1000%

  • @teddyshah Even Ac!d?

  • Cry for me Snake. Cry, until your eyes run red!

  • this battle was so intense. i literally spent 20 minutes hunting her around, it was so scary when my solid eye was out of battery

  • @AKSsasori i know what you felt man, took me ages to clock the direction of the wind (snake's bandana follows it)

  • So all of the Haven Troops are all female? I mean, where is the logic and story behind that. never explains that one. Why the hell do they all like, Burn up and vanish like ghosts when they die. Does it explain that??

  • @Arcane1Soldier The FROGS (Haven Troopers) burn up and vanish, because the nanomachines in their bodies undergo combustion upon death. Screaming Mantis can be seen controlling dead FROGS, since she had the power to control nanomachines, so she disabled their combustion function, and took control.

They are all females, since females happen to perform better than men (better acrobatics etc) Ofcourse they also undergo genetic engineering to enhance their abilities.

  • This is probably one of the best top 10 boards to play on this game. With the "mind-controlling music", with the intense Blizzard and great old memories considering its Shadow Moses island also you see liquid snakes "Hind D" helicopter crashed out in the cut loll.

  • Best game in the best console

  • God I'm tired of this damn question.

*Exaggeration* Urrr... Who would win in a fight, Ghost from MW2, or Snake from MGS?

DUH! ITS OBVIOUS! SNAKE, BECAUSE HE'D SEE YOU WAY BEFORE YOU SEE HIM!!!!

  • @GutaarGod ghost dies, snake doesn't.. simple loooool

  • I find it funny when the Haven Troopers use ladders, which could very possibly have claymores on top, when they could just JUMP up there, but they never do in Caution.

  • If I was Solid Snake I'd have to give her my Solid Snake after our battle :-D

  • @Dubb1000 in the white room at overtime :)

  • I love this theme music for Crying Wolf. As soon as I started listening to this, I felt the temperature in the room go down.

  • Rest in Peace wolf!!! T^T

  • it snowy and hard to see thats why it takes long

  • Snake was stressing the fuck out of himself during this boss battle.

  • @Navili502 Snake: DAMMIT!! ITS SNIPER WOLF ALL OVER AGAIN!! I HAVE TO GO BACK AND GET A PSG-1

  • @Navili502 *cracks back* Hrnggghhh... gahh...

    *PCHEW*

RAAAHHH!! AGGGHHH! *Reaches for M4 carbine* HRN!!

  • Nice blend of synths, guitar, strings, and piano. All around go sound textures too.

  • I think that octopus should have been the crying one and wolf should have been luaghing. Imagine looking for her in that storm, with this music playing, and hearing her giggling. That wolf cry she makes is just annoying.

  • i always come close to shitting myself listening to this, i think i actually did when i played crying wolf for the first time. i couldnt stop shaking.

  • Even though this is one of the less confrontational boss battles in MGS (reminiscent to The End in MGS3) it is extremely tense.

  • *Suffocates brother while trying to keep him quiet*

  • that little tank-vehicle in the beginning, after the broken tree - i just hid under that and used the Solid Eye with a sniper rifle

*its the same tactic i used in the first game, only right next to the tree outside the communications towers, lol*

  • Anyone ever notice that in every Metal Gear Solid there's a big unit you have to fight. In Metal Gear Solid there's Foxhound. Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty there's Dead Cell. Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater there's the Cobra unit and in Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriots there's Beauty and the Beasts.

  • I don't know why a lot of people take so long on this boss. It took me like 30 minutes even on my first play through.

  • her story is the sadest =(

  • @dgdfreak

I prefer Laughing Octopus story. I mean...to kill your family and getting forced to laugh while you do it is f*cking horrible! Eveytime I think of that I´m getting such a freakin disturbed feeling inside of me. Whoa x_x

But nonetheless: Crying Wolf is freakin awesome too. The whole BB corps is godass awesome!

  • @dgdfreak Well she is called CRYING wolf XD

  • @dgdfreak i think screaming mantis had it the worst

  • @dgdfreak Yeah, it made me CRY.

  • That little piano bit sends chills down my spine.

  • I know. It's like 2 seconds long but that piano bit is probably my favorite part of the song.

  • @burninator14 which piano bit?

  • @opticpwnage357

I think burninator14 is talking about the part at around 0:59 seconds. The music slows a bit and then it plays.

  • It took me at least an hour on this battle on my first play through. Not as much as the End from MGS3 though, I spent at least 2 hours on him on my first try.

  • play her level . on MGO and in one of the corners in the Downed Hin-D heli. from Metal Gear. u shot down for a boss fight.

  • This was the single most tense and suspensful boss fight of all time in my opinion. Playing it on hard mode was like a different experiance. I reccomend it to all.

  • Big Boss mode was amazing with this boss.

  • This fight is more fun if you actually track her down...if you hide under the truck all day you aren't getting the most out of the fight. The only thing that I use the truck for at times is when I plant Claymores all around it and allow her to smell me. Then when she comes running I'll duck under the truck and she'll run right into the Claymores. Then I'll spray her while she's down and chase her back into the woods...good stuff, and great song.

  • @firerocket I only used the truck to take out a few of the other baddies near the beginning of the fight, but I realized they just kept coming up, so I started focusing on tracking the bitch down quickly. Raging Raven's grenade launcher worked wonders in that boss battle.

  • I like all 4 , i really cant decide which one is the best :/

  • this music has the word EPIC all over the place :D

  • good song dont get hear it 2 much on ma ps3 wen im fighting her lol

  • she's a very goog hunter i'm remember when i was play at this game every time i enjoyed to start the fight with her because it's the best of the boss ( but my ps3 IS BOKE) what's that !!!? lool

  • I hate that horrifying and demoralizing howl crying wolf makes right as your exiting the cutscene and about to start the boss battle. It's so demoralzing and shakes you up for a good 3 mins into the fight. The music extends that feeling and makes it so unnerving. It's amazing! I love the breathing part in the song too! Adds to the sniper battle.

Plus if you don't equip your Night Vision setting it makes the battle EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA difficult :D

  • Yeah. I remember doing this battle on hard mode, and the batteries on my solid eye were dead. Way difficult, but very fun! :3

  • 1:01

  • that pic freaking awesome

  • When I first fought Crying Wolf (and at this time it was my first time playing MGS4). I was scared shitless to go out there and fight her in the snow, so I hid under that truck the whole time and sniped her. But after replaying it a few times Ive gone out there and fought and kicked her ass.

  • hey try doing it on the second hardest difficulty i just finished the game omg its so hard with the haven troopers closing in on you shes alot faster and harder to snipe so imagen how i felt

  • try it on the hardest, without being seen by haven troops.

  • yah use the stealth camo lmao

  • Haha, thats exactly what I did first time playing it.

  • it is yea.

  • Crying Wolf has the most heart-ripping story of the four.

  • Crying Wolf is my fav but Screaming Mantis had it way worse

  • I disagree itsallgoodfamz. Laughing Octopus was the worst one.

  • I personally thought that Laughing Octopus was the best one during your first play through but if you play through it again, Crying Wolf is.

  • Comment removed

  • best GAME no FRANCHISE EVER:D

  • for this battle, basicaLLy what i do is i tranq the frogs, then once its just me and wolf i follow the wind and look for her, i never get close to her i always snipe her with the mosin or the sVd, either way the bitch goes down, but make sure u aim for the head, it takes a great amount of damage.

  • is she in the same direction as the wind or the opposite direction?

  • I love this theme.

  • The hardest boss imo...

  • She's not so bad, once you understand the fight a bit ;) It's good to be aggressive in this one. Tranq her soldiers, then try and hunt Wolf down, and move with the wind to stay downwind.

First time I fought her it took me forever, but the 2nd time when I chased her around, it probably took about 2 minutes or so. It helps if you're good with the Mosin Nagant...

  • Thanks for the tip :).

  • err...i just tranq the soldiers while hiding under the tank, when they all tranq i go snipe sniper wolf, if she takes to long i just look around and try to kill time but i stay under the tank at all times

  • also, sniper wolf's old spot from mgs1 is a very good place to hide. you only need to watch the ladder behind you

  • I sniped her from one of the towers, had Lots of ammo.

  • I went all out atk with grenades

  • best boss . loved it :) i spent like a good 20 mins cowering under the truck :D

  • lol

  • First time I played it I nearly beat her with the grenade launcher from under the truck. I went under there after it does that thing where she charges you at the beginning.

  • You're not alone when it comes to using that tactic XD.

  • All I used was a good sniper, and the Solid Eye on Night Vision to defeat her

  • its physically imposible to die in the microwave hall unless u dont press the button

  • MY FAV!

  • Best Boss in the game imo, you actually HAD to use stealth to beat her.

  • The psycho mantis doll. She'll let go of meryl and you can kill screaming mantis with it.

  • Well, I shot it out of her hands, but Mantis killed me.

  • I forget what I did next, I think I got it, and shot her with it, like cunning fox said..

  • I finally beat Screaming Mantis after 2 tries. Now, the microwave hallway. It is too emotional and tough to beat.

  • yah, I was not diggin that part at all..I just thought they were beating the dead horse at that point..the storyline kicks up a bit after it though..

  • Finally beat it. I am having trouble with Liquid Ocelot. I can blow through "Liquid" and "Liquid Ocelot" portions, but "Ocelot" keeps killing me with CQC and headbutts.

  • Just stick with it..he does switch it up, but all he really has goin for him is that cheap falcon punch knockoff..if you can time sticking and moving, getting in a few hits and avoiding that, then you are good to go..

  • i just kept using cqc and he barly had time to attack

  • You mean like when you had to fight psycho mantis? Psycho mantis was able to predict your every move thats why you had to change the port. But screaming mantis doesnt predict your every move. Plus it would be awkward to change ports cos its all wireless. But no you dont have to change ports. I didnt.

  • THANK YOU!.

  • When I fought screaming mantis, I took meryl out. Use cqc on her and that'll make her dazed for a while and stops her shooting at you. Then aim for the doll that glows orange, shoot the strings holding it. once you hit all 4 strings the doll will fall off. Make sure to quickly run and grab it. Mantis should then let go off meryl and the soldiers. Then its easy to kill her. hope this helps.

  • What about switching your controller port?

  • I need help with Crying Wolf. She keeps barging in to me and it kills.

  • Go to the tower, equip an RPG or anything of equal or greater firepower, and put on the night vision.. Be patient, cause she will fire at you occasionally to try to weed you out. Also look out for frogs..Keep yourself mooving when you gets hit once, or when she fires at you. She will get carless after a while, so keep this up. Or this tecnique worked for me at least..

  • Does Facecamo help?

  • Oh Yeah..you want to use that on this level constantly, as it bumps up the percentage of your concealment.

  • Oh, I thought it was to make Snake look more badass. But It now sounds more useful than it seems.

  • Yup, it bumps you up another 10 to 15 percent I believe..

  • Well, I finally beat Crying Wolf. Thanks man. Now, I am am having a shitty time trying to take Vamp down

  • Well, there is one thing you want to keep in mind when you are fighting him..something he is able to do..

  • Something in your inventory that goes with this..

  • I think he said "As long as these nanomachines run through my veins" and I grabbed the syringe but I was too late.

  • Yah, thats it..;you got it, but you have to be quick on your feet and hit him when there is an opening..think CQC

  • Thanks for the tips! It really helped. Now I may sound noobish saying this, but I am having a hard time with Metal Gear RAY. He is too hard to get up and attack him. Shooting him is okay, but he is too agile.

  • Umm, lets see..what I remember doing was using the buildings for cover and just staying on him..

  • Wow, that was easier. Now, the part I'm on sucks. Screaming Mantis. She makes Meryl shoot me and herself. I do not know who to attack, Meryl or Mantis.

  • SHe was a bitch to fight. I had to alternate between picking off her goons and staying alive..then it hit me..the puppets..

  • Which one? She hads The Sorrow and Psycho Mantis? I think Mantis cause she controls nanomachines with it.

  • cry. until your eyes run red!

  • Snake ends up fighting yet another woman with the title of Wolf whose specialty is sniping at the VERY SAME location he fought the previous one. What are the odds? Has to be fate.

  • by far the best boss battle, crying wolf was so uniqe, she could actualy smell you out, never moved when the wind was goin my way, throughout the game i was wonderin why i would ever need to kno whick way the winds goin, then i knew immedietly

  • I never knew that but still managed to beat her even on Extreme. At least now I know what makes her start stalking me.

  • this song of the BB corps was the best. and also screaming mantis before invect urself w/ syringe

  • SHOW ME YOUR TEARS

  • SHOW ME YOUR MOVES!!

  • SHOW YA MOVEZ

  • where can you download this song? i have the soundtrack but it doesn't have this songs also raging raven, laughing octopus??

  • I like this song. I usually put it on while losing or while im enraged on the battlefields of MGO to get hyped a little.

  • damn this music's cool, especially when she slow-mo pounces you -_-

  • I remember playing this boss and this theme was just so fucking awesome going with it.

I put on the night-vision snake eye and you could see those fuckin soldiers slowly creeping up to you from afar.

Picking em off one by one like the real Solid Snake

Then going after that crazy crying wolf

  • love this theme as well as finding that darn wolf. the theme is like crying literally.

  • this is my favourite theme

  • In a way, I can understand why she would beat people to death if she cries so much, it's to get people out of her way so that they won't annoy her.

  • I acually felt sorry for Crying Wolf. Always sad.

  • i found the crying wolf batle quite a lot of fun i just tracked her footprints with NV and took her out with that special lock on misile launcher in a way it remenberd me of "the end" in mgs3

  • laughing octopus is more of a "the end fight" because she tries to hide on you.

  • im on wolf right now. shit is it a white knuckle boss! your outside durin a blizzard and you cant see anything. all of a sudden she will just pop outta nowwhere and pounce on you! also she has this really freaky howl youll hear once an a while. i suggest talking to otacon through codec for info on her (makes it more strategic when you find out how she finds you)

  • She always cries. That's what's disturbing; this metal beast is beating the shit outta everything, and she's sobbing her heart out as she does it. In real life, that'd scare me shitless; I couldn't beat the hell out of a sobbing girl.

  • haha no way :P its like you'd wanna help her instead or something..

  • Crying Wolf is also a killer before BB Corp, she's just been mentally fucked up by life and by "You know who" from MGS. Remember Drebin's background information on her, she accidentally snuffed out her brother by suffocation, hiding from rebels in Africa. Later, she was taken to a refuge camp after found wandering around still holding onto her decaying little brother's body, then at the camp a wolf was heard howling, and babies were being killed at night, it was Crying Beauty, howling & killing.

  • So is raging raven and technically laughing octopus.

  • raven killed because she was very pissed off, wolf killed because of an allucination after killing her little brother by accident, octopus was forced to laugh and kill her family by religious fanatics

jsut because her village was called "the village of the devil"

i still don't get the background of mantis so...

  • Wolf killing her brother was accidental, then she became mentally fucked when she heard crying.

  • You can actually hear her breathing. This was a great boss. It took me some time to beat her on my first playthrough, because i didn't first understand how to kill her.

But then i took a Javelin and...

    My fave is Raven btw.

  • the bells give it a cryptic feeling

  • does anyone know where can i find the calming battle for each theme? I prefer the calming version.

  • Huh? I don't think these music clips are in order to the game.

  • I think my favorite of the B&B Corps themes, mainly because of that really menacing guitar that playes every once in a while.

  • Yeah the guitar is awesome.

  • hideo's imagination is outta this world when she made the boss named crying wolf. not only is it cool looking, but its mounted by the real person...plus never knew the railgun mounted on the machine will be used like a sniper when the beauty opens her hatch (don't know what i'm saying? look for crying wolf's cutscene before her boss battle)
