  • If this is an Irish parade why are there so many people in kilts?

  • Why are there Pipes and kilts ahahahaha I guess you haven't the first clue of Irish history or if you do you are very ignorant about it. No offence

  • The irish never wore kilts.

  • The Irish have been wearing the kilt as we know it in Modern form ie: the small kilt since the 1840's/50's and way way before that invented the Leine and Brat that became the Great Kilt.

  • No padraic pearse attempted to get his followers to wear the scottish kilt to maintain a sense of identity during british occupation but it never took off. the irish do not wear kilts nor have they ever worn kilts. If you wore a kilt in ireland today they would assume you were scottish.

and the gales stopped wearing the liene long before the advent of the great kilt.

The irish do not wear kilts so stop trying to kid everyone on they did.

  • @MrThingy3 The Irish did not wear the kilt in 1840, the kilt in ireland was only worn by the Ulster Scots in the British army at that period.

The leine was also worn by the highland scots in Scotland before they devloped it into the kilt.

The kilt is not irish it is scottish, no matter how desperatley people like you want it to have some false connection with irish history,.

  • @scottishnationalist The kilt and the bagpipe are originally Roman if you want to get technical about it. So what if the Irish want to wear a kilt. You should be honoured about it. The scots caused so much shit in Ireland its amazing that the Irish are paying any kind of homage.

  • @DonbX The Kilt is not Roman, wrapping a cloth around your waste is NOT a kilt. A kilt s a uniqe and very specific garment. The kilt did not evolve from roman dress, as the kilt devloped independantly about 1000 years after the romans left Britain.

The bagpipes are not roman either many civilisations have had verisons of bagpipes, however it is likely the bagpipes were b rought over by the romans.

  • @kingdomofdalriada OK thanks for the info - I had heard that the bagpipes were brought over by the Romans. I was obviously wrong about the kilt. I still think people should not get nitty about the Irish wearing kilts. Either way, I think the kilts, bagpipes and these kind of parades are awesome

  • You army unit that marched was the Famed Figthing 69th Infantry. Was the frist armmy unit at ground zero. Also the unit went to Banghdad patrolling (Route Irish)Nov04 to Sept 05

  • big fan of the parade. i think it's the only one left in NYC that isn't merely an excuse for a bunch of animals to gang rape eachother in the streets. thanks for posting. hope you had fun!

  • Couldnt agree more, well that and the Columbus Day parade :).
