  • Think about the number of lakes and streams in the U.S. where they say you cannot eat the fish, or not very much, because they are contaminated with mercury or PCBs. That is not progress!

  • I grew up on Lake Victoria, as a Cornish family's son. Just went back first time in 44 years. A lot to be shocked about. Bilharzia rampant (hyacinth gives great shelter to the snail-hosts), detectable mercury poisoning in perch from illegal gold-mine ore processing, hyacith islands all over the place.... A real worry.

  • Fuck basic needs. God damn humans are destroying nature! I say we spread a mass plague eh. :P One that doesn't kill, but keeps people from enjoying the taste of fish or anything made from animals. What do you say, let's do it!

  • this paints the horrible reality of human development without environmental sustainability. Its not just an African-case scenario, this is happening all around the world. One day, the world will be so polluted that future generations will not be able to live the same quality of life that we did. And for what? Because it was good for the global economy? Capitalism? What good is money when you don't have basics needs.

  • @FongoBongo You talk sense, my friend. Money is supposed to be something to make life easier, or better, not to be the purpose for which we ruin the very things which make life possible! I was shocked last month, on my first return to Lake Victoria in 44 years. My blog is on wordpress, just type that in after jimuboy, then put a dot com.
