Yep! I was catching up on Zipster's vlogs, and in the one he put up a day before 888 he was in Iowa or Illinois. I thought they were road tripping it to Toronto because they were headed in the right direction... I wondered why I couldn't find Zip and Sign at the welcome party...
So there I was editing videos from the Welcome Party in my hotel room. I went to YouTube to upload the first one, and sure enough there was Zipster with a vlog posted less than an hour earlier talking about being 4 hours away from home and already in Pennsylvania... I was very surprised and not to mention disappointed. So it goes...
Wow, that's a long interview! It's great to meet all the people and then suddenly you find out you know a video of the person but then you just meet the person as here ;o)
It was really wild... There were some people that I recognized from a video or from a collaboration that I had seen, but I didn't know most of the people there... I had known some others by watching lots of their videos, and a few even knew who I was either based on some of my comments or from watching me... On the whole, it was a humbling experience. I knew YouTube was big, but I was shown by the size of this event how very small and totally unknown I am in the scheme of things...
Yeah, really true ... YouTube is so big ... lots of people ... more than we expect. And then there are people like as renetto and saying the community is dead. This confirms it is not ;o)
There are several communities within YouTube. I touch on a few of them. It's impossible to even know about all of them...
I think a lot of the big names are out of touch with what You Tube is for smaller guys like me... If there were no community, it wouldn't take me so long to get caught up on all my email from it :)
True ... and it just also confirms my thought that there is just not ONE community on YouTube. I think the renetto community is a dead one on YouTube. The bigger YouTubers are losing their success as the smaller ones are coming up more and more and "steal" their views ;o)
There are always more new people on the site. When new people join, they see featured videos and videos made by big names, and videos that got many views for some reason made by little guys... People often find me because they see some video that I made eighteen months ago about some island in Mexico which got 4000 views by now:)
My Guppy video is also pretty famous and I'm still getting lots of comments there. I am sure some of my subscribers also subscribed because of that video as I always wonder when new subscribers never write comments in later videos.
I had such a great time, this is my 3rd YT gathering & one I will never forget. The event ran smoothly and went off without any drama. Thank you Kathy for all your hard work.
It may be a long time before I get an opportunity to get to another one... If a gathering is ever held within 1000 miles of here, I'd seriously consider it... If it's farther away, it depends on how much I need a vacation :)
Well, this one was 3000 miles away, but I had almost a year to plan for it, and I could combine it with a family visit, so it was worth it... If not for the family visit, I would not have gone...

looks like a really successful gathering. :^)
I'm even more disappointed in myself for not making it to the gathering.

Don't be disappointed... There will be others. While I did have a good time, I would have enjoyed a smaller gathering more.
This thing was a bit overwhelming...

there is no community

There are several loosely related communities. They keep on changing. Sadly, most of my loose community was not there :(

I'll have to check her channel to see where I can attach these vids... I'm a bit out of the information loop...

1000 miles away is too far for me. I would go if it were much closer.

You are way more dedicated than me. It's cool you got to see family too. I just won't drive that far.

Cindy drove halfway :)

When we go on vacation my wife and I drive. When I get tired of driving we switch. It works out great.

That was exactly our strategy, only we had the mattress in the back... We're definitely going to do it again...
