  • The more I learn, the less I find I know.

  • I only discovered Robben a couple of years ago and was awestruck by his attitude and talent! I've been playing 45 years and this man really opened my eyes and ears . Thanks. Isn't that Larry Carlton's Les Paul??

  • Lots of people comment on the naturally creative vs study topic - I think the best players out there have/do ample amounts of both. They just keep pushing their repertoire with new ideas, or reinterpretations of old ones...?

  • I love 'thinking' musicians. Just look at the right for other suggestions! That's a brainstorm!

  • What a freaking nice guitar!!!! He deserves it big time but I cant stop drooling over that vintage LP

  • i give up :(

  • @vigier8604 that is what they try to achieve :P don't do it man.... you're too young :P it's not worth it

  • Which DVD is this on?

  • @jbhthree Robben Ford - The Art of Blues Rhythm DVD

  • The day you lose the desire to learn, is the the day you become average at best.

Ford, Vaughan, Clapton, and yes, even all the Kings, have stated that they are/were always learning, always changing. Nuttin wrong with that....

  • Ordering this DVD for myself, to drool over, but will hope to play these after a few decades of practice. The great ones make it look SO SIMPLE.

  • Ok I need a bit more studying before I get on this one, god that's sweet...

  • oh yeah, I never get enough of the old "if you study you become less creative", like if really know nothing ever made somebody better...

yes Ford learned to play by himself, then played with people like joni mitchell when he was a kid, and other people like that. just beacuse he doesn't have music text book doesn't mean he hasn't studied from the best teachers.

p.s.: you are creative or you're not, that's it

  • Killer feel...

  • DID HE WEAR THE THE GUITAR DOWN NATURALLY FROM PLAYING IT ?? DAM THATS A LOT OF PLAYING ROCK ON ROBBEN. I LOVE THAT GUITAR.

  • Which DVD is this from?

  • A lot of guys referring to his rhythm playing, and of course it works but you can also solo like this , I believe this part of the point, using arpeggios and chord shapes instead of scales. Just a thought.....

  • Does anyone know which dvd this video is from?

  • I'm only playing C, G & F! Boy does he make it sound good though!

I've always preferred the rhythm side of playing as I'm hopeless at lead. Things to work on!

  • It's about mastering all the inversions, once you can do that you can have an army of voices all over the guitar neck.

I takes time, it is taking me a lot of time :)

  • WOW...This IS So Easy And USeful!!!!!!!!

  • His rhythm hand is something to worship!.. he gets so much color out of those chords.....

  • His rhythm is so funky and grooving...his meter is rock steady!

  • It's tasteful, absolutely, but not theoretically challenging, in response to the "walking chord encyclopedia" comment.

  • The guy is a walking chord encylopedia

  • I can do that...hahah( a guitar player inside joke)

  • I can do the walking chord thingy over the neck like a run, but to do it fluently in a song like Robben does... woah. This man is a legend and watching him live was one of the greatest experiences.

  • yes, it takes 1 guy to play it and 49 others to say-"I can do that"..lol

  • What makes Robben ford great is that he's a musician first, and a guitar player second. Some players don't get that.

  • wise words. i bet 90% of the guitar playing population does not understand that. just think about how many guitar players can't even read music

  • @SirSampsonSimpson

Gee, I wonder if Blind Willie McTell could read music....

I guess he sucked or something...

    Whadyathink?

  • @Steve99jp66 man what are you talking about? Hendrix couldn't read music, most of those old blues musicians couldn't read. Sometimes being a trained musician actually makes you less creative. I was just referring to a social phenomenon where everybody wants to play guitar but nobody wants to actually learn music.

  • @msnmedia Fortunately all relevant guitarists in music history get that.

  • @msnmedia And Stevie Ray Vaughn was just a guitar player.

  • @msnmedia like Steve vai

  • Agreed craigslistmoron!

I think the word 'tasteful' is the key ingredient in Robben's playing. He is able to put so much soul into what he does.

As much as I love listening to shredders and sweepers , what Robben Ford plays is memorable...you know, it says something musically deep.

  • Robben is among the finest and most tasteful guitarist alive.
