ROFL!! u didnt even format the drive. and that pop up was saying that u already have windows so its going to put that window's programs in windows.old. so its not a "fresh" instillation. for that u needed to click the option when selecting a HDD and then click "format" and bingo! clean HDD! THEN install windows :D. i kno this is an oooooold ass video but still had to say this because u were FALSE ADVERTISING ;D

I know this video is old, but I know windows 7 will boot faster than Vista, but the Vista installation was used and had other start up programs and things to load and the Win 7 install was fresh. So maybe Vista could be just as fast with a fresh install. But in over all boot time, with start up programs Win 7 is the faster OS.

instead of using a dvd from dvd-rom to install windows 7 , i have used a little program provided by microsoft that allow me to copy windows dvd content to removable storage such as flash memory or an external hard disk and make it bootable .

i have did it with my flash and i have installed windows 7 on my PC in 17 minutes.

Yeah slipstreamed OS's are definitely the way to go. A little tricky, but well worth it, especially if you want one copy of the OS to install on your work computers or home computers. Not exactly legal, mind you, but....yeah :)

Yeah not exactly legal for work use, but for home use hey ho on we go. :-)I just think OS's come with so much crap now days. On instalsation we should have the choice to install what we want. i was wondering if u would check somthing 4 me? start up your vista laptop, and when it gets 2 the screen like1:33 look on the right side midle of the screen, on the second of those lines of light going down, about half way down the line....is there a small patch of the screen whitch is faintly lighter than the rest....? u may need to look closley and move your head around! i ask because im worried i have some damaged pixels or the ink has gone funny!

I spy a few fails.

The dialog where you confirm it to wipe files actually stores everything into windows.old, so you can retrieve all documents later from there and put em into new windows install, you could have formatted the drive then installed it.

Most computers boot from CD Rom first then Hard Drive.

This really is silly. Install of the OS is something you will probably do once a year with Windows or if maintained in the right way, maybe once every 3 to 4 years, so 1 day in about 365 days you need to worry about installing it, and with the aforementioned it would be roughly 1 day every 1095 days that you need to worry about it. Install time means fuck all and boot time if the difference is negligible so not even worth mentioning. Its how it functions when you are "using" it that matters!

Bootup times of XP vs. Vista/7 are negligible. My old XP computer booted in 25 seconds or so, and my Windows 7 boots in 32 seconds. Not exactly a big deal.

There are a select few motherboards who don't like one of the two versions of Windows 7. I've experienced this on my wife's laptop, the same hanging issue during the Windows 7 loading screen. It usually happens after activation, but has been known to happen before as well. You could try 32-Bit (try a pirated copy just to see if it works), and if it does the same thing, then it's something with the system itself.

But some MBs can throw a hissy-fit with 32 or 64-Bit.

If you're a gamer you'll get the most Frames Per Second in XP.

Windows 7 falls in 2nd place for performance. And Vista is the slowest for gaming.

Actually a custom install doesn't remove your files, if you look in the main drive location (default 'C') there should be a Windows.old folder, and you can drag all your files back.

A 'PROPER' clean install is to format the drive and the do a fresh install.

Windows VISTA got me to get a MAC. I had a LOT of problems with the VISTA to Windows 7 upgrade with, after about a week, there would be serious lock ups (unable to jam unless you turn off the power). I was so pissed off I got a MAC. However, I found the FULL installation disk (another $200) to get a stable system. I do like my PC again, but now I use both computers.
