The Special Effects of the Original Series that were Redone a few years ago were left Intentionally " Dumbed Down and Kept Simple " so people would not Reject them as being Too far Advanced for a 1960s Tv show that was Low Budget. They did it on purpose also to leave room for another Special Effects Overhaul sometime in the Future. That way the Studio can make new Money off them all over again. The Enterprise Remastered agasin to the level of the Motion Picture will be Great....

I used to Snowplw the Airport near where I live. It is a Very, Very Big International Airport that is Extremely Busy . I brought along my Portable 10" DVD Player more than once for Standby Times. I brought Seasons 1-4 of MASH and at least 2 Seasons of the Original Star Trek. Seeing a Bunch of Grown Men for Hours Glued to my DVD Player watching hours of Star treks is a sight, we were all and still are Starngers but we all sat and Watched " Captain Kirk" nonstop. I come back hours later. Still On
William Shatner as we know is the " Errol Flynn " of Star Trek. He made it Fun and Interesting to watch. Him not being in Star Trek 12 ,even as in a Small Cameo at the End , is like not having Ronald Mcdonald atop all the McDonalds Restaurants. Without hi, the Original Star Trek would have been cancelled after 12 Episodes back in 1966.

Also,the Star Trek franchise was still fresh and had not yet gotten too stuffy and self important. The orginal had the attitude of a series that literally was boldly going where no one had gone before. This attitude & the fact that they never knew if they were going to to be cancelled(they were) made then different.

@zerobeat18: I think that the reason this version of the intro is high-pitched is that it's probably taken from a PAL (Europe, UK, Australia etc.) release of 'Star Trek: The Original Series.' Just saying.

@wolfacula Star Trek 5 should have been set 4 year after Kirk took command of the new Enterprise. That would give time for added depth and life experiences fo the very Familiar Crew so the audience can come back and see something new. If the heroes we like so much can move " Up " then so can we. That's why people plunk their money down at a Trek film. Trek 5 should have opened with the Nimbus 3 shot, then flipped over to the New Enterprise in Full Scale Battle with the Klingons......

Was Captain Christopher Pike of the Starship Enterprise in Command of another ship before he took over the New Enterprise ? NCC-1701 implies she was the 2nd ship of her Class. The NCC-1700 would have been the First of the New Ships.The Captain of the NCC-1700 would have Commanded that Ship for a few years before Moving to the New Enterprise. He would have mad his Executive Officer, Chris Pike the new Captain of the NCC-1700 before planning his move to the Newer Enterprise NCC-1701.

I chose to not mention that I knew the Enterprise belonged to the Constitition Class which i have known since the 1970s. I read the Franz Joseph Designs for the Original Series. I also got the Blueprints for Star Trek The Motion Picture in 1979 after the First Movie came out. I didn't want to overkill my knowledge of Trek by Initially mentioning " Constitution Class and sound like a Nerd. So ....

From the perspective of non-trekkies, (or in my case, a fully recovered trekkie) ALL fanboys of all or anything "Trek" is a Trekkie. A "Trekker" (in this context) is someone who operates under the delusion that it was anything more than a {show|movie|cartoon|comic-book|novel|etc.} A Trekkie might have seen a woman naked. A Trekker lives vicariously through Kirk.

@casper564 I've seen them both--in fact I've seen & I liked all of them,but if you're into Star Trek,the orginal is worth seeing because of the large themes blended with a humanness. Also,the Star Trek franchise was still fresh and had not yet gotten too stuffy and self important. The orginal had the attitude of a series that literally was boldly going where no one had gone before. This attitude & the fact that they never knew if they were going to to be cancelled(they were) made then different.
