  • All are great,  especially Franco Corelli. He has the most beautiful tenor voice.

  • That period you mentioned also coincides with the development and use of the mass media that made those artists available to us. If the media had been available in 1850 ff, I wonder what we would have heard.

  • @10clementine Very good observation, and good question. I've talked to some old people long ago, you probably have too:) Two of them heard Caruso at his peak, and they both made the same observation. A powerful, beautiful voice. That's probably what we would have heard. Some mighty fine singers back then too!

  • I don't know if it was THE golden age, but I'm just thankful that generation of singers was the one appearing on TV every Sunday night during my childhood and the one available on LPs when I first began really listening to opera in the early seventies. When you list all the greats from that period, the mind boggles.
