  • the music is so bad

  • Clueless nursing students?

  • what happened to aseptic technique they didn't flame anything

  • cool video and dig the song.. thanks for allowing me to relax and remember to just get in there and do it!

  • nice lab but I think the techniques weren't aseptic enough ^^

  • i am a medical technologist work in microbiology laboratory.

i love my job , very interesting job :)

  • It bothers me that so few of the analysts are wearing gloves.

  • i love microbiology!

  • this music is way too exciting for the event

  • Wow where is this ???

    awsome lab!

  • Comment removed

  • That is such a nice lab compared to ours.

  • Hey! You aren't using aseptic technique!

  • LOL those white lamps are the EXACT same as i have right next to me now

  • Why on earth would they have students streaking out Legionella on BCYE?

  • What was the name of the black colored Agar at 1:59 and Green Agar at 2:10? please revert if you know the right answer as i don't know...

  • the black media looks like BCYE (buffered charcoal yeast extract) and the green is most likely Hektoen (for the recovery of salmonella and shigella)

  • recovery. Could you elaborate on the recovery of Salmonella and Shigella?

Also MAC also helps in selective growth of Salmonella and Shigella where both produce yellow colonies as they don't ferment the suger present in MAC. can you tell me what is the princilple behind Hektoen i.e. What is the combnation of that Agar and how does it help in differenciation of different Organisms?

  • On the HEK plate, most gram negatives will grow in yellow/orange colonies. Salmonella will grow in clear colonies with black spots on the top (they produce H2S) and Shigella will grow in green colonies. This media is mainly used for stool cultures. There are a few different sugars in this media, the exact mixture, I am unsure of.

  • MAC is used for the differentiation between gram positive and gram negative. Gram negative bacilli to be more specific. Beyond that, it only selects between lactose fermenters and non-lactose fermenters. Which, is sometimes helpful, but not usually. There is MAC with sorbitol (replaces the lactose) also used for stool cultures and differentiates between E. coli O157H7 and regular E. coli. Regular E. coli's ferment sorbitol and O157H7 does not.

    I hope this helps.

  • Yes this will really help. Thanks a ton. :)

  • clostridium?? haha...i remember the foul smelling of that bacteria

  • 0.48 she knows how to use it lol

  • Love the bacteria song. Was a bit horrified that some people were holding test tubes and plating bacteria and not wearing gloves some people wore gloves but not everyone. So Dangerous!!!!!!

  • I remember it was scary at first but apparently it's quite common within the public microbiology labs to not wear gloves. It's probably more important when your working with more virulent bacteria.

  • i know it's important to wear gloves but i rarely do wear them . cuz i use the flame all the time so i am afraid that the heat will affect the plastic gloves while i am wearing it .

  • the bacteria is on the INSIDE of the container....

  • @ImKatieD Alot of these organisms are things we are around everyday anyway. Some people are more likely to be careful about washing their hands and what they touch when they aren't wearing gloves instead of being careless because they think it doesn't matter if they're wearing gloves. I've seen other students looking through their bags while still wearing gloves. Plus you don't want to be wearing gloves near a bunsen burner. It can be more of a hinderence then a help.

  • I love the second song. Thanks for this video.

  • Thats it I've decided, I'm going to be a food microbiologist/ scientist/ technologist or something. yeah

  • i am a microbiology student . this is my last year and i love it . it is so great , and i had lot's of fun in the last 3 years . so go for it .

  • I remember I did this before. It is about microbial research. Very cool

  • who knew microbiological lab research could be so exciting!

  • Sexy women who are scientists in what looks like an awesome lab.

This video is like serious nerd porn.. its too much!

BTW, Whats the female worm in the breaker?

  • i love this vid and the bacteria song was awsome lol

  • This was very cool to watch, even without the sound enabled! Great job!

  • Pwned

  • NERDS!!!

    I keed...I keed.. cool video.

  • oh..I miss microbiological thecnic in lab!!!

    The warm of bunsen! auhauhahuahuhua

    great!!

    dav

  • Magnetrition.

Research indicates, magnetic bacteria and the mitochondria have the same properties. The average person dies around age 70 due to insufficient turning during sleep. Astronauts, when they leave the Earth's magnetic field, must take with them a copy of the Earth's magnetic field, and insure their periodic movement within that field to prevent osteoporosis. Live Long, Keep Movin!

  • wait..what? is that true? is there evidence of that? so if we turn over more often during our sleep do we live longer?

  • Do children? Do you not live long when you don't turn during sleep?

    Study @ my site.

  • haha whats that bacteria song?

  • Well, I personally use gloves in all my labs, For one no matter how hard you wash your hands, there will always be bacteria from touching surfaces. Usually when you plate a petri dish, you don't really touch anything with your hands. The flamed loop is supposed to be sterile. Without gloves it is definitely not 'sterile technique', but you could think of it this way, the bacteria that would be on your hands from touching surfaces would also be on the gloves.

  • Therefore, it's really to protect yourself. In microbiology lab classes, I've used some pretty nasty bugs and definitely would not want to contaminate my books, bags, and food with them.

  • Also something interesting to note, the red petri dish that has the the clear smear, is probably bolvine blood, and the bacteria that caused the clearing uses the nutrients in the blood as a food source. Probably not a good thing to have on your hands.

  • Good! Thanks. I am doing this in chemistry in the school.

  • 90% of these people do not have gloves on LOLOLOLOL

  • you don't need gloves for anything you do with micro. Just make sure you wash your hands after!

  • Not really, some bacterias need only few minutes to infect your skin cells than, when they are unwashable they get deeper and deeper.

  • Yeah, true. But I'm sure a classroom environment, such as seen in the video, aren't handling anything more than a BSL-1. More protection is needed as you go up the BSL.

  • Looks clean there.

  • how come there is no maintenance of sterility???????....but nice video....loads better than my lab

  • some thing like is worthwatching for students

  • nice~ I remember watching this video @ the open house before I applied!

  • haha cool :)

  • They're not inoculating the mouth of the tube. Awesome equipment, which school is this?

  • why aren't they wearing gloves, masks, and lab caps? sticking out your tongue inside a microbiology laboratory isn't safe

    PS flame sterilize

  • this lab looks fun

my microbiology lab class is the most boring thing on earth

  • ahh!! first time am hearing a song on bacteria! cool! who is the artist???

  • cool video, i spoted some staph, strep, enteros, i think some yeast. what is the name of the black plate? well is also spoted plates like HE, XLD, SBA, and others i really like your labs NICE!

  • Ahhh! My second home!

  • Pretty neat. I appreciate the music and the lack of words.

  • What songs did you use, and which is better to study biochemistry or micro ?

  • I've just posted your video on my blog (Twisted Bacteria).

  • I like it! Where does the music come from?

  • This would be much better with a narration of what is going on instead of some song.
