I am happy to say my female German shepherd who was never trained will NOT let you in my home if i am not there. How do i know? My stepfather who knows my dog went over one day to borrow something, i wasnt home, but he has a key, and i told him go ahead as i figured it was fine... well,he said as soon as he opened the door, she blocked him from coming in, then started growling and showing her teeth! That said, i keep my home secure and locked well, especially when i leave anyway.
The "intruder" was competely calm which is not how a normal thief would be feeling robbing a house. A dog can pick up how a person is feeling in an instant and thats how it decides what to do. The dog could easily tell that the "attack" was fake by how his owner really felt. Im sure that in a real situation a lot if dogs would protect there family and home. This test has not taken into account a dogs ability to read humans body language.
@westhammer9 yes, they probably didnt respond as much because the person was calm, but even a barking dog can usually be talked to and they will want pets or be yelled at and threatened and they will tuck tail. It is a natural response for pet dogs. Protection dogs are desensitized to whips, sticks and other things and learn to love working so they have no fear of these things. They just want to work. Like he said, at least 95% of pet dogs would do nothing, even in a real situation.
These dogs are not bred or trained to... what do you expect I found a presa that will chew before any formal training and and found a a mother presa male like her ... now shes expecting pups in a 4 weeks hopefully offsprong will be same. A good breed as a natural guardian Caucasian Ovcharka tho I wouldnt reccomend people in North America get them, for liability reasons and the dogs would get watered down to shit in this continent by no time to c one youtube "terrible dog"
@JustToletUknow The homes featured were intentionally chosen (by the reporter) with "untrained" dogs. The purpose was to show that without training, they would not protect. Last year we did a similar story using dogs trained by us; and all these dogs responded.
You are right, Presa Canarios are not suitable for most owners due to their dominant and courageous personalities. (I have one, and have trained many.) However, they still require training to be effective personal protection dogs.
@PartnersWorkingDogs Effective.. I agree poison proofing and other tricks also....all breeds need some training to be effective. I meant Caucasian Ovcharka shouldnt be owned by most, unfortunately I already have seen Presa on this continent watered down to shit, not all tho.By also agreed some of these presa shouldnt be owned for most.
I had a break in 6 months ago though we were out and my dog who is a Pit x must of showed him where everything was because we came home to a ransacked house, all my valuables gone and a happy dog!!!! Needless to say where do I get my dog trained????
@sara44428 lol thats terrible! Shows the true Pitbull nature anyway! lol Find a local trainer who specializes in protection, although some trainers will only train dogs who are bred for the work, so you might have to look around.
This is AWESOME! My house was broken into and my dog was stolen along with everything else while we slept!!! I was certain he would at least bark but apparently not. Thankfully myself and my family were not harmed.
So much for protection... Guess next dog I'm getting trained!
for the people that don't have tons of money to spend realistically an investment of 7 to 8 thousand will do it

Now why wouldnt they test a GSD? If they did they would find out it would have attacked the intruder.

Shes always alert with strangers
Backs off unless i tell her not too , once a stranger picked her up while she was alone and she bit his hand ( was bleeding )
She didnt move away coz she was tied but if she wasnt she would just go away from the stranger
U can call her all day but she will never care !

My dogs bark at anything and everything. Any tips on how I can teach them to only bark at the possible intruder?

Love how this shows people how their dogs truly preform in the face on an intruder. Wonderful!
