Thank you so much for your epic journey of running. The book was incredible and inspirational for me. This slide show bring things together well for me.
I just finished "Born to run", what an amazing, inspiring book. It is great to see the real faces of the people I just read about in the book. Thanks for the post Ted! I am also getting into barefoot running and my Vibrams!
I read the book, started running long ( 10 miles a day for two weeks) tore a calf muscle, led to tendon problem, cant seem to get over it and am in worse condition than when i started. Would love to hear from someone if tjis has happened to them and they got over it.
Finished reading "Born to Run". I have to say this book as inspired me to find my love to run again. In the 80's I loved running, ran in the Olympic marathon trials twice, set the women's course record for the Dipsea (still stands). Suffered burn out and now at 60 I'm running the trails again!
I love running barefoot. The feeling is fantastic, and I feel so much lighter and agile. Unfortunately every time I've run extensively barefoot I experience anaphylactic shock. I also don't like the feel of vibrams whatsoever. Sucks for me. ='(
I think Barefoot Ted is an idiot....and I love him.
Born To Run is as good of a read as I've had in 10 years. Thank you all: Runners, Taruhamari, authors, misfits, et al (esp Jenn Shelton!!!)--I have been transformed from a guy that negotiated 10 minutes on a treadmill to "When is my next 20 miler?"
I found this music quite annoying the first time I heard it. I actually enjoy listening to it now! I aspire to the tarahumara! They remind us of what we must not lose our affinity with. RUNNING!
That book was simply amazing. Liberating, inspiring, the story of these misfits getting together for this nike- free ode to liberty gives you wings to fly on.
This is so great! I'm more than 3/4 through the book and am just constantly fascinated by it all. Reading about barefoot running made me think of growing up in Brazil.. pretty much everyone I knew/saw walked, ran, and played soccer barefoot.
Ted, love the pictures. I have a question, when interacting with the Raramuris, did you ever see any pregnant women running? I ask bc though it is encouraged that women stay active during pregnancy, running long distance might be overwhelming, well, maybe in our western mindset it is. If they do. it would be a real privilege if you posted pictures of raramuri pregnant women runners
Just bought my first "five fingers" and can't wait to hit the road.
Speaking of Philip Glass, what a perfect running partner. Very easy to find your tempo, and I find myself floating after six to eight miles and the dopamines have kicked in.
I Just got done with Born To Run-great read. I found myself asking "is this really a true story?" Anyway, it's super to see everyone en vive. Vive la tarahumara! Quiero visitar algun dia.
How can I learn the running technique? It seems that in addition to the huaraches, you must learn to lean forward while running and quickly slap your feet on the ground as you fall forward (?)

Look at 5:59... that looks exactly like the red Dodge Ram pickup with the dark black tinted windows driven by the drug cartel people in the book...
