The Origin of Species is the genesis of evolutionary theory. You see, I know it may be difficult to understand for some, but science has progressed to the point of being able to build on Mr. Darwin's theory using very complex scientific processes. What is understood today about adaptation and evolution has grown into a much more believable school of biology. There are certainly gaps in the fossil record, but its much more believable than the old "a magical wizard in the sky did it" theory.
@janroucax Colbert improvises his show, they just have topics they are going to cover written down. It's quite astounding, he makes amazing jokes and puns on his show right on the spot. It's something to appreciate greatly.
there is no proof that one species evoles into another, there is proof of Adaptaion which is what Darwin's Theory is based on. Read his book, he doesn't even use the word evolve or evolition... this is something scientist came up with to push "their" ideas losely based on Darwin's theory of "adaptation". Sadly, we tend to believe what we hear and are taught by adults as children. I challenge you to read Darwins books and notes...
ugh too bad--I saw this entire live interview and I remember it vividly. This video doesn't include a part near the end when Stephen became pretty vulnerable and serious after King had asked him if Colbert thought he was a good American or something to that effect. Colbert actually took it seriously and said that he was an honest American or something like that, and it was kinda touching. Great guy

Well i didn't say all that and...if you wanna be really specific, scientific theories with no hard evidence to back them up, like the big bang, that scientists basically proclaim as being facts, are just as bad.
The same man that told you about God is the same man that told you about Evolution.
Do you really think we as a species know all the answers? Do you really think that Evolution (with its many faults) is the final answer to lifes questions?
Stop getting your facts from blogs and uneducated athiests like Dawkins.
Even Darwin refuted his book before he died (and they do not teach you that at school).

@Axl207 Agreed, but evolution has to do with how life has changed over time, not the answer to the universe. And no one knows that answer even tho creationists like to think they do.
The human race isn't going to finish discovering if people like you deny what we have already discovered. More scientists accept evolution than historians accept the Holocaust happened. Evolution is here to stay.
And so what if Darwin refuted his book. Most of the evidence for evolution was discovered after he died. He didn't know anything about the fossil record or DNA. High school biology students know more about evolution than he did.
@MrSprink except dawkins is only one of the leading evolutionary biologists in the world and only rednecks like u choose to believe fiction over fact.
@SidNightWalker Oh but I bet your church thinks it knows what God wants. And Catholics don't think they know exactly what God wants either. I happen to be Catholic. I know that we try to act as God would want us to, be kind and help others and all. But we don't go around proclaiming that we know what God wants. That's bull.
all church is wrong. that's not an opinion either, that's a biblical fact. the way the church is set up is completely against what Jesus wanted it to be. it wasn't supposed to be a hierarchy of priests and pastors. it was supposed to be a collaboration of people coming together and worshiping God. this is how it originally was, but it was twisted later on. the way the christian church is set up is the same way the paegan church was.

@SidNightWalker trust me that nigga Jesus was self serving for someone to believe his own dad (Jehovah) created everything and his mother was a Virgin??? Sounds a little Narcissistic and a WACKO
@SidNightWalker Yeah. All churches are full of oppinions. Read the bible yourself and decide what you belive. You don't need no priest, pastor, bishop or pope etc. to tell you what god wants.
Actually, he is NOT a religious fanatic and he is not Christian. His parents taught him that it was possible to question the Church and still be Catholic.

That would be to the total contrary to what catholics are tought, and to the history that most other christian chruches except some like orthodox christians splitted from the roman-catholic "religion", and not the other way.
Or do you mean he is not christian anymore, and was just raised as christian (catholic)?
Don't get me wrong, Catholic = Christian because of it's roots but the small differences in the religions claim seperate teachings. Colbert in several interviews states that his parents taught him strict Catholic teachings since he was born.
I myself am not religious but I came from a family that was very religious. Christians, Catholics, Jehovah's Witnesses, Islamics, etc. were all under my family.
.The Protestants looked back over history and felt that some of the Roman Catholic interpretation of JC and Christian history may not have been objective. They sought to support corrrect historical fact. I imagine that the Roman Catholics did not like this, and therefore there came to be a split. So all are CHRISTians, though they may have different interpretations of some historical facts.
technically all us monotheistics are jews considering its the first god religion and the religious world is orignaley tribes of israel even the Muslims but yeah interpretation is what causes wars, and you know the winners right the history
Technically Muslims originally came from Ishmael son of Abraham- not the tribes of Israel0 though many of the Tribes might have converted for political reasons at some point. Also, There were Zoroastrians in the Mesopotamian basin- and in fact much research points to all Monotheistic Faiths borrowing much from them. They may have been the 1st Monotheists in that region though different from what others later interpreted.
Although the Zoroastrians themselves were probably influenced by the ISraelites during their sojourn in Babylon. It is likely that the Zoroastrian faith was precede by an influence from the Israelite Monotheirstic traditions- as a result this is why Cyrus 2 eventually released the Jews and allowed them to return to Judea. His empire was Zorastrian in nature.
Luther, you mean, didn't look over anything at all. He looked at something that was happening in the church by a select few corrupt officials (the selling of indulgences) and made a big historical deal out of this issue. I'm confused about your comment that Protestants saw Christian history as subjective. This doesn't make any sense; history is subjective! Catholics see their history in the same way. Objective things are simply proclamations of faith.
And claiming that the Church houses the authority of Jesus Christ is a pretty big proclamation of faith, but when it comes to the other areas of faith that all Christian profess, it is actually quite small.
Protestants tend to make historical arguments against the Catholic Church, but they never have historical arguments to support their own philosophy. Which is kind of the point of this thread.
I am not sure you meant to reply to me. I was not talking about history as recent as Luther. Ironic isn't it- that JC was struggling against what he felt to be corruption of the faith by some of the Roman sponsored High Priests of Israel- and many years later Luther did this as well. He also got the Bible translated so peole could read and learn from it and become literate.
Luther did not himself make a historical deal to my knowledge, but years later as the movement grew stronger- when more people read the whole Bible- felt that the description of the last days of JC were mistaken re ritual & burial. Small details maybe for some- but for others I guess the nature of who JC really was may have seemed important enough to commit to. Just dfferent views is all. I was trying to say that Everyone Christian was/is Christian regardless of what camp they are in.- peace
I agree with your last statement. But I'm again confused. You say that you were talking about some kind of insight (Protestant insight?) before Luther? No one really had an insight like Luther, or at least no one communicated it like he did. You seem to make the mistake that the Bible was read more frequently after the Protestant Reformation. Illiteracy exists in a society whether a bloke prints a billion books or one. Education is what overcomes illiteracy.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
all you people are wrong. the mormon faith is the one and only true church. you all are going to hell. because your not wearing majic underwear like i am
And I can't think of a single institution on the face of the Earth that is more concerned with education then the Catholic Church. Perhaps she wasn't in the beginning, but that does call for herectics, like Martin Luther, to profess heresy. Illiteracy doesn't mean that people are stupid, or that they can't speak to their priests, or that they can't listen to readings at Mass. Illiteracy simply means that they can't take up the book for themselves and read it.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
No offense but, Illiteracy does mean that people are stupid. Can you name a single illiterate person who has had an impact on humanity? Galileo/Einstein/Hitler? There are a million, but almost all of them had a more than decent education and could read/write.
And I believe that the Catholic Church, even before it subdued itself into public education, overcame literacy with iconography. The purpose of stained glass windows, for example, was often to portray scriptural stories that the illiterate lay members couldn't have read. I guess my point is that Luther didn't bring about Biblical literacy. The Church has always been a beacon of literacy from its earliest days. God bless.
Of course he is Christian, he's even a Sunday school teacher. Also if you mean he's not Christian, because he's Catholic then you have a very insane logic, because Catholicism was one of the original and first forms of Christianity.
Again, CHRISTianity as a whole began with the early christians who were following JCs teachings- it was a revolution for the corruption they felt existed in the leadership of the Israelite community at the time. The Christian people grew. The Romans came and with their interpretation and Roman Catholicism ensued
JC was actually an Israelite- as were his apostles- and Maryam too. After his death his followers broke away to become CHRISTians. Roman Catholicism. Roman. Times of the Romans- hundreds of years after the Romans crucified JC the mother of the Roman Ruler had visions and convinced her son and the nation to embrace JC. Ironically, they then used the same brute force that they used to kill JC and other Israelites to force the native peoples of their empire to convert to Roman Catholicism.
Ok, typically I wouldn't post a reply to a message like this, but I feel tired and a bit grouchy, so I'll do it anyway.
The word Roman simply means that the church's authority, ironically, is founded in Rome. This is where Peter and Paul went after the death of Christ, this is where they evangelized, this is where they died, and this is where they are buried. The name has nothing to do with the Romans or the Roman Empire which persecuted Jews many years before the birth of Christ.
I have to disagree, Larry definately understands Colbert's humor. Larry King is a proffesional of epic status, he knows how to keep his composure with men like Colbert.

Objective things are simply proclamations of faith.
lotrrox04 2 years ago

He also got the Bible translated so peole could read and learn from it and become literate.
lionessroyalty3 2 years ago
Luther did not himself make a historical deal to my knowledge, but years later as the movement grew stronger- when more people read the whole Bible- felt that the description of the last days of JC were mistaken re ritual & burial. Small details maybe for some- but for others I guess the nature of who JC really was may have seemed important enough to commit to. Just dfferent views is all. I was trying to say that Everyone Christian was/is Christian regardless of what camp they are in.- peace
lionessroyalty3 2 years ago
I agree with your last statement. But I'm again confused. You say that you were talking about some kind of insight (Protestant insight?) before Luther? No one really had an insight like Luther, or at least no one communicated it like he did. You seem to make the mistake that the Bible was read more frequently after the Protestant Reformation. Illiteracy exists in a society whether a bloke prints a billion books or one. Education is what overcomes illiteracy.

No offense but, Illiteracy does mean that people are stupid. Can you name a single illiterate person who has had an impact on humanity? Galileo/Einstein/Hitler? There are a million, but almost all of them had a more than decent education and could read/write.
AntiChrist06660 2 years ago

& the ignorance starts again...

Maybe you need to elaborate a bit specifically and better, because your comments sound a lot more ignorant.
Do you believe Protestantism is a more Christian religion than Catholicism?
deserk 2 years ago
Again, CHRISTianity as a whole began with the early christians who were following JCs teachings- it was a revolution for the corruption they felt existed in the leadership of the Israelite community at the time. The Christian people grew. The Romans came and with their interpretation and Roman Catholicism ensued
lionessroyalty3 2 years ago
