Back in the good-ol' daze, late-night television was a trove of B-movie treasures (now it's all paid advertising), and Ch.4 here used to broadcast Come Spy With Me about once a month at 3 a.m.. I have the Captain Shark song on VHS tape and reel-2-reel, and it's one of my favorite tunes. Thanx for posting, but I still don't know who did the song Captain Shark. The band in the movie appears to be lip-syncing.
The band in the movie is Byron Lee and The Dragonnaires, a leading Ska, Reggae and later Soca act from Jamaica, however the track they are miming to is definitely not them.
It must have been around 1967 when i first heard this! I've always loved this record
, did not know it was a movie soundtrack~WOW~! Flip side of our love was just a mirage. I always thought this to be the B side. Never saw the movie. this is probably the first time I've heard it this since then. DAM~~! it's funny this song has never left my memory, and i always wanted to hear it again. thanks for this one.
When I was 10, I saw this movie in the theater. Being a kid, I really loved it. It wasn't until I saw it again, (after midnight, in 1985) that I realized how dumb it was. Troy Donohue was 31, and well past his "teeny bopper appeal" days. Andrea Dromm was hot, but she disappeared from show business after this flick. As dumb as it was though, I wish they'd issue it on DVD, just for cult purposes. The best thing in the whole movie was Smoky Robinson's theme.
Trivia on Come Spy With Me. It was poor Troy Donahues first film after his Warner Bros. contract expired. Clearly the beginning of the end. Troy didnt fare well as a free lancer. Other fallen teen idols like Tab Hunter did much better. Also of note: this is the only credited screen appearance by Chance Gentry, an unsuccessful protégé of the vile Henry Willson, subject of the book, The Man Who Invented Rock Hudson (& Tab & Troy). Chance is mentioned several times in the book.
Smokey Robinson sang the title.. I saw this at the drive in in 1967. saw the Miniskirt Mob the next week. What a truly epic motion picture that was. I've been looking for this movie for years.
THE MIRACLES should have released this as an "A" side single instead of a flip side.

@ftsjr : It always seems the case. I was 8 when I this movie back in 67'. When you watch movies when you're an adult you find out it was corny.

I have ALWAYS loved this tune - It was featured as the flipside of their 1967 hit, "The Love I Saw In You Was Just A Mirage"

@thesixtiesguy The song is credited to THE MIRACLES... not Smokey alone.
