Thankyou for the friend invite. I really enjoyed this video. It's a rational perspective of what democracy is. I especially enjoyed mention of Ghandi and Martin Luther King Jr. Sure the U.S. Democracy has some flaws, and through vote and public opinion we can change them for better. Such as the percentage of people who were against going to war, it would not influence the President's decision to go to war.
Long life Ghandi! I don't have much to say except that I vote and I hope tha the rich ones that are still spoiled rotten don't buy my vote od democracy. I t doesn't stop me from voting though. I live in Canada and our homeless are still homeless. The fight is still strong for evolution-the human race is the slowest animal to do this though even though we like to think we are smart because we stupid humans! Religion get's in the way of progress! Dam it! STUPID HUMANS!
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was one of the greatest persona to walk on the face of this Earth. Right now (as I respond to your comment), his only rarest memorabilia are being sold for a couple of thousand dollars. My Professor at College remarked that - who could have ever thought that the belongings of such a great man would be put for auction.
It's not just religion that comes in the way of progress, but caste and at times, gender too (in the Indian context).
Therefore, I rightly find the need for awareness of Gandhian priciples. But then again it's only the Government that can implement measures on a mass scale, in order to bring about substantial change, for good.
What good is voting if the elections are rigged? I've seen the film "Uncounted." I know how easily the electronic voting machines can be tampered with. Even paper ballot voting can be rigged. Look at how Kennedy did it. There were all sorts of people in Chicago who voted who were actually dead. The Mafia helped him do it. One reason he was killed. Because afterward, he started cracking down on the mob. I think his "I Have a Dream" speech is still as powerful today as it was in 1963.
Where did people ever get the idea that a majority vote was a moral decision by default? Why do we assume that 51% of the people are correct?
What if 99.9999% of us voted to kill a random person in cold blood? Obviously, you would be repulsed and shout "false analogy! democracy is non-violent!"
But that is the ESSENCE of democracy: a majority vote trumps the rights of the individual. In other words, democracy is totalitarian.
Since you've paid close attention to my Democracy Video Challenge video, you must've noticed under 'Democracy is Synthesis' - "...every Thesis is opposed by an Antithesis. The clash between the two leads to a compromise i.e. a Synthesis."
And this very process, over a period of time helps in - "... organizing the pluralistic structure of society... for an enhanced political functioning towards systematic governance, in accordance with the constitution."
No, my views are not Orwellian in the least. In fact, your own writing is 'Orwellian'. You buried me is pleasant-sounding and exceedingly vague babble, ultimately saying very little but activating harmonious emotions within the reader.
Democracy is not 'Synthesis' -- it is mob rule. It is totalitarian. There can never ever be a compromise.
The only good gov. style is very very very simple: any and all actions serve to protect citizens from aggressors.
I presume, your adamant viewpoint, is a result of your staunch resistance towards changing perspectives on democracy, across regions.
This is to say that democracy in terms of its functionality is not constant in different countries of the world, though the ultimate motive is the same. That is, in your own words - "serve to protect citizens."

I will agree that democratic governments depend heavily on the philosophies held by the public.
But I will disagree that the ultimate motive of democracy is to protect citizens.
You are a very intelligent debater. I mean that as a salute and not flattery. Have a nice day.
atmac17, Marlaina78 and 10nido23 - Thank you for your support and appreciation. So long as my effort helps bring about a positive change in society, I'd say, "I've achieved my goal."
Democracy is only as strong as the ability for a country to accept it's responsibility to keep it going.

I do not think that a film or a documentary can represent a generalized opinion in this matter. But in certain exceptional cases - yes, they may.

The US of A is not a democracy. Thank god.

A democratic gov. can not promise this.
