the Knock wasn't just bigger than the Emma.. it was A LOT bigger !! I live on the Great lakes and see 1000' ore ships all the time.. they're little canoes next to the Knock. It's sickening that she couldn't have been kept as a static display as a testament to man's great achievments.
Even though Knock Nevis is bigger, I say Emma Maersk is better because-look at that rusty old piece of ship! the Knock Nevis is very rusty at most times.
@2011LEGOFAN True but the Jahre Viking is over 30 years old. Emma Maersk is within 7 years old. Emma Maersk will look like that in less than 30 years. Also, The Jahre Viking has been sunk in Afghanistan... Doesn't look too bad after being risen from the dead
knock nevis rely solely on steam propulsion but emma maersk use combined diesel and steam, the boiler on the emma maersk lack of firebox as it produce steam from the main engine's exhaust to drive the stream turbine, on the port the caterpillar engine are used as auxiliary unit. another form of combined diesel and steam is the steam is separately injected into the engine actively modifying compression and after burning on the main engine strongly reduce fuel usage and emission.
I would have to say the Jahre Viking has one thing on the Emma Maersk.... she is risen from the dead.. sunk in the straits of hormuz and then refloated.. but the Emma Maersk is just plain sexy
The owner of the Maersk Corp which employees 120,000 people worldwide named the Emma Maersk after his high school sweet heart & wife: Emma Neergaard Rasmussen. She past away in 2005 & they were married since 1940.
the emma maersk cant compeat with knock nevis we have cruise liners bigger than emma maersk the freedom of the seas and the biggest one the oasis of the seas will kick emma maersk ass no way this is a compition and the oasis of the seas could not compeat with knock nevis
lies, the Oasis Of The Sea is still smaller than Eight Sister Maersk(Emma, Ebba, Edith, Eleonora, Estelle, Eugen, Evelyn, Elly). Eight Sister Maersk: 397m of lenght, 56m of beam; Oasis Of The Seas: 360m of lenght, 47m of beam
ship size dont go by length they go by tonage oasis of the seas weighs more than the emma maersk and so does freedom of the sea but your right they are longer but not bigger its like comparing a girrafe and the afican elephant the girrafe is taller but the elephant is bigger
@Bleuesoul89 u dont even know what gross tonnage means, it measures the volume not the weight! Emma Maersk is still longer, wider, and heavier than oasis of the seas, so it is bigger.
I think the best way to compare ships are the main dimensions (length, breadth, draft, displacement). Gross tonnage varies greatly from one ship type to another as it only denotes the overall internal volume and is greatly affected by, for example, the large superstructure of cruise ships.
Therefore GT is not, IMHO, the best way to measure the size of the ships.
Two things of beauty each splendid in their own way....Definitely the two largest ships in the world...Miss Emma is faster though but the Miss Nevis splendid and powerful too..

Knock Nevis didn't work for Maersk, It was owned and operated by First Olsen Tankers.

emma maersk=cargo freighter, knock nevis=tanker, ms oasis of the sea=largest cruise ship
josephtan1818 2 years ago
I think a better definition for Emma Maersk would be "container ship". Tankers are cargo ships as well.

Great video, and yes, I guess respect is due to both.
What you would need to do is set them side by side when empty/unloaded.
It's worth remembering that the Jahre Viking(Knock Nevis) is 5 times heavier than the Emma Maersk!.

its a shame to se the great jahre viking just lying as an FSO.........

I'd rather see 70s single-hulled oil tankers beached for scrapping, but I guess permanently-moored FSO is the next best thing...
