I was wondering whether anyone believes Roz when she said that her friend took her to the restaurant, shoes were a store credit, and her mother treated her to a day at the spa. The writers are so clever with their writing that they let the viewers guess what really happened.
I love this show very much and it truly amazes me how eerily familiar this is to how people actually act in real life. Artificial attitudes are always the testament of the human mentality. I love this show!!!
one thing i wonder about this show is:frasier is a psychiatrist,he has money, and he's been out of work for a while so why doesn't he just set up shop like Niles instead of looking for only radio/tv spots...
oh and though i LOVE-LOVE this show, "mary tyler moore" did this exact story line, where mary lent rhoda money.
@luname82 Good question! He's probably more enamoured of his celebrity status than he's prepared to admit. That and the fact his unemployment made for some great story-lines... xD
I enjoy this episode, but Roz was over 1000% wrong. She has a baby. Bottom line. You can say Frasier shouldn't have been in her business, but what if Roz had a drug problem and was putting drugs before her child and going broke? Would you say that Frasier should've minded his business then? It's amazing we live in a world where being a good friend and worrying about somebody else can be criticized into a bad thing. Most likely because Frasier, a MALE did it. If Roz did it t'd be ok. Hypocrisy.
You are correct in one thing, but it's easy to see the difference between recklesness and addiction.
Fraiser isn't worried about Roz having a drug problem or something like that since he thinks she spends the money on stuff like perfume, spa's, shopping trips and etcetera which would count for reckless spending of her saving budget.
@MattiasFredrixon An addiction could be anything. Ever heard of hoarders? You could be addicted to spending money on stupid stuff. I'd say Roz is in that category. I mean, who complains about having a kid, having absolutely no money to care for her, and practically crying about it, and then when given money, she wastes it? I'm sorry but that sounds like an addiction to me. With a slice of stupidity.
@IR17171717 If u watch the whole episode, you'll see that the ending is saying that she was lying. She did spend money on herself. Her "mates" didn't spend jack on her or for her. She was LYING. It's amazing how so many people didn't get the ending at all...
@QBFOJustin no no. your comment was from frasier's perspective...frasier thought x of roz, but she claimed to of done y. so to the info he got, roz did y. wasn't his buisness to ask x anyway. and the fact that you bbrought sexism into it doesn't really work here i don't think. or certainly not especially anyway
@IR17171717 I love how Frasier how being a friend and was genuinely concerned his friend might have a spending problem and merely wanted to help but he's somehow the bad guy who should've minded his business. Then it turns out Roz WAS doing what Frasier thought as shown in the last scene of the episode. Somehow this is comprehendible to you though. Which is a pity.
@QBFOJustin right...few things. obviously we're not disagreeing over the structure of episode...i get that roz spent the money on stuff she shouldn't. that's not what i said. and you mean incomprehensible don't you? anyway end this hear. not going anywhere.
Weren't you all listening?! Roz DID blow all his money on that stuff. She made up that crap about getting those things from other people because she was embarrassed to admit he had a point. And Frasier lied about with touching epitaph--he just pulled it out of his ass at the last second. That man defined improv.
@SURFUR You'd be surprised at how many people don't pay attention and then go on to write ignorant comments about things they know absolutely nothing about. It's sad to see so many stupid people watching such an excellent show, especially because they don't even learn anything from it. I wish I didn't have to say such a cruel thing but, unfortunately, it is true. I've seen it too many times before and it's refreshing to see someone else trying to correct the abundance of ignorance.
If anyone actually watched the show, the only thing Roz bought with Frasier's gift was the perfume. Why all the bitching, complaining and analyzing. ?
Frasier is a great series, but this episode owes a lot to Cheers. Compare the storyline of "Roz, a Loan" to "I'll Gladly Pay You Tuesday." There's also a similar one-liner: "They aspire to lousy" / "We aspire to saloon" (One for the Book).
She didn't lie. She explained that the shoes were a store credit, that her mom gave her a day at the spa, and that her friend treated her to lunch. The only "luxury" that she bought with Frasier's money (that we know of) is the perfume. As afr as we know, the rest of the $1500 went toward bills and baby stuff. So how the hell did she lie??
Interesting Frasier fact here, did you know that there are 2 dogs which play eddy, ones the dad and ones his son. The younger one does all the energetic stuff
The way Frasier treated Roz was terrible. It wasn't his business. Even an apology doesn't make it right since he never understood what he was doing was wrong.
Nuh uh, Frasier was right though, Roz was squandering that money stupidly and uselessly when she should have been paying more attention to the things she actually needed. Sure when he gives it it's no longer his but he was just trying to give her some sound advice, as a friend should do
@dafish82 That is the dichotomy of frasier! He can fix the hardest situations that he himself is not a part of, but once he has a hand in the problem, he pooches the deal. We know that hes a harvard graduate, but his cop dad always has the general knowledge that saves the day! Thanks for watching dafish. Frasier ROCKS
@dafish82 In the real world, that would be correct. However, in the real world, the person borrowing money probably wouldn't shove it in the loaner's face that they're buying superfluous things when they said they were in a time of need.

@QBFOJustin i think you missed the point. see her mates paid for her spending. she didn't buy herself much at all. so frasier was wrong.
