  • Instead of just having a rubber band, how about something to join them tightly together? Like a screw, glue or something else?

  • a yard stick in south africa is gum

  • More sanding more smoothing. The current Menards yardsticks are thicker than the used to be, so this will make it a little less aerodynamic.

  • I tried this, but couldn't get it to work. I'm a lefty, so I sanded it opposite of yours. I tried throwing it sanded side towards me then out. The best I could do was to get the boomerang to make a horseshoe shape in the yard but landed 30-40 feet from me everytime no matter how hard or soft I threw it. I even used the same store brand yard stick you used. Any ideas?

  • mine spins the wrong way and then goes for the ground

    please help

  • wow cool make more videos of trowing boomerang and making them.

  • Excellent videos Kendall! You never cease to educate me. Thank you again :) I'd like to see you make a short vid for a paint stick boom. There are a few out there but they're all missing something. Cheers

  • Now THAT'S what the YouTube is all about. A perfect thing to post dude! Frikin excellent video, I love real shit and practical things to see. Again, nice job here. It was pretty simple!

  • Good job!

  • finally something my son can try and build. Great demo.

  • I would suggest a 4-in-1 wood rasp. This will take off wood quickly, and you can use the fine file to smooth out the work before using sandpaper to smooth it a bit. I guess I need to make another video. Good question!!

  • For those of us that dont own a belt sander can we just take a lot longer and hand sand it or will the quality of the airfoil be bad or something?

  • Im pretty sure the Aborigines only use belt sanders when making boomerangs.

And hey, worked for over 40000 years that way, so don't mess with tradition!!!

  • Wow that is cool. I am deffinantly tring that!

    5/5

  • i cant believe how popular boomerangs are, and the fact there is this whole youtube profile dedicated to them.. i live in australia and i've never really thought they were such a big thing

  • Being that no stores around here sell boomerangs that actually work I think i'll make my own like you did. Great video.

  • I havn't thrown in years!Man I got to get back into it.Thanks!

  • this is a good video. i made one and it works!

  • it'll probably spin better if you got rid of those rubber bands and sanded off half the depth of each stick,.. glued together,.. painted lookin good..

  • Yes, you are right, but this will work fine. I am not trying to show people how to make a high-performance boomerang... just something that will work and that they can make at home with rudimentary tools and moderate skill.

  • If you skip through the video, it looks like the sander is moving backwards. Did it fall off the table??

  • It probably did slide a bit. The sander has rubber feet on it that stop it from sliding all the way off. No problem.

  • wow ur right!!! lol

  • That was awesome. Too bad I don't have a belt sander. I assume the same thing can be done with a palm sander?

  • Sander, wood rasp, anything that will take off the excess wood. Even a sanding block with coarse sandpaper. It will just take a little longer.

  • A palm sander would work with rough grit paper. Probably 60 grit would be a good place to start. Black and Decker sells a power file hand held belt sander which sells at Wal-mart for $40.

  • Man this video was amazing. As easy as it gets. Thank you VERY much for it :)

  • nice work dude! we r waitn for your real boomerang work. best wishes from Turkey.

  • hey nice video isint there an easier way to make one

  • sure... use a rasp. takes longer, though. You can use a router, but you need special cutters, and all will cost around $200 to make one the easiest way.

  • how long does it take u to make those?

  • the yardstick boomerang takes about 5 minutes to make. other boomerangs take longer. I plan to post another video of making a "real" boomerang, soon.

  • what is a airfoil?

  • The shape of the wing.

  • is it neccesary to make the airfoil ? because in another video made by razor (or something like that) didnt make an airfoil

  • The airfoil will make the boomerang fly more consistently... Most paint sticks will have a bit of a warp or curve to the wood, and this creates a virtual airfoil. If you use a yardstick like I show in the video, it will probably be better wood and flat. It will need at lease some airfoil for it to be consistent. If you want it to work every time, and be more forgiving with a bad throw, carve an airfoil.

  • Um... "Throw the boomerang perpendicular to the ground"? Am I the first to notice this? It appears to be thrown parallel with the ground.

  • You have your definitions switched. The boomerang is thrown nearly perpendicular to the ground - meaning nearly straight up as opposed to flat like frisbee (or parallel to the ground.)

  • I made 5 today out of just paintsticks and rubberbads ill make a vid to show how to make them.

  • Paint Sticks are the perfect size for making these. Way to go!! Would love to see the vid.

  • Ah ßidé ßiz YapabiLsék.. WmK

  • In English... please?

  • I have one of the v shaped boomerangs that you made. thanks!

  • I appreciate hearing from satisfied customers.

  • Hi, I've tried this with paint sticks, but if i throw it, in the right way, it goes pretty far, but if it wants to turn, he stays in the air and doesn't come back...

what could i have done wrong??!

  • Go to my website and send me a message from my comment form. I will contact you with more information. If you can send a picture, or post one online, I may be able to help you correct it. Maybe a more aggressive airfoil will help. Sounds like the paint sticks may be heavy - but you can work around it with smoother airfoils.

  • "for throwing in a backyard"...right lol

  • Or... inside a gym, or... just about anywhere!

  • lol I'm gonna go to Shop Rite and try it. Shop Rite is like walking distance from my home lol

  • very kewl. i wanna try once.

  • Kool and thx :D

    5/5

  • 5/5 cool

  • rest in peace menards yard stick....you shall be avenged! >:)

  • when i get a chance ill try this....

  • range?

  • This is a short-range boomerang. Probably goes out about 10 yards. If you use heavier materials, or scale the boomerang up to a larger size, it should make a larger circle.

  • about 10 yards

  • Very helpful and fun. Could you please show how to make a boomerang that emits a whistling sound? I'm sure many people would enjoy that and I can't figure out how to do it.

  • There is a pattern on the internet for a boomerang with a whistle in it, but I have never tried to make one. Looks like a lot of work. Probably would make a very long video. Interesting idea, though.

  • wou goood!!! IS IT REAL??? hey but it is not easy...but excellent i gave you the max

  • This is as real as it gets. Making a boomerang REALLY IS THIS EASY. People just think they are hard to make. Larger, traditional boomerangs are a bit more tricky, but just take a bit more time. Visit my website for more information.

  • Hehehe ok thankz!!!!!! HEy I just noticed this video IS noisy...But believe me excellent!!!

  • weldon ,,, it's realy nice

  • Great video Kendall. You make it look simple as it easy. No magic tricks here. Just sand the profiles. Diane says you forgot the hip action tho.
