What an excellent rendition of a superb ghazal of Akbar Allahabadi by KL Saigal. At my age now having seen all the tragedies of life and death, this clear beautiful voice and wording by Saigal pierces my heart. No wonder my father always said Saigal is the greatest singer ever.
@krhapa Thanks for this wonderful Ghazal. Since the poet took his taKhallus (pen-name) from his native city - Allahabad, the common spelling is "Allahabadi"
I cannot add to the admiration expressed so eloquently by chmogaa, sqhzaid, maina1900 etc. It is simply wonderful and beautifully sung. Thanks for posting.
Qibla, aapki tareef ke umda alfaaz ne phir mere chehre ko nayi dulhan ke rukh ki tarah surkh kar diya hae. On a serious note, the Buddhist image of detachment in this ghazal is that of the lotus flower, pure in its whiteness while growing in muddy ponds. It is symbolically rooted in a corrupt and corrupting world but remains uncorrupted by it due to the stems of its blossoms staying above water. Thank you, Qasim Bhai, for your kind words.
Wow, my friend, what a joy you have given me! This is one of the few KLS ghazals that in my younger years I could sing quite well. "I am in this world but not of it" conveys a philosophy of detachment born of reflection over many troubling predicaments of life. It is advocated by parts of Hinduism, Sufism, Buddhism, Daoism, and ancient Greek thought as well as by some mystical Christian traditions. This is not just a song; it's a piece of refined poetry and global wisdom.
Very Beautiful poetry, I've heard it my GrandPa singing many a times. Thanks a lot Mago Ji for sharing this gem with me and many thanks to uploader too.
I love it/heart wrenching rendition and thanks for including the ghazal verses, I only.remembered the first two.

This is the finest and closest explanation to the meaning conveyed in these pieces of
poetry/Ghazal. Like the master touches of an excellent painter/artist, Prof. Vipan Chandra
(chamogaa) keeps on showing his enormous intellectual strength through his comments,as
flashes of dazzling light and colors, appearing here and there on the canvas of YT. His
varied expressions, on various items of poetry and music, provide stimuli to the thoughtful
minds.
