There obviously WAS a problem and the emergency services were on standby for a reason. I work at Manchester airport and I know that they have other things to do thatn sit on taxiways watching planes all day!
As for the bird strike, it was April 2007 and was a Thomsonfly 757-200. The right engine was hit by 2 herons and the aircraft made an emergency landing.
Actually, there was a bird strike during take-off on the right engine. Whole thing has been caught on camera. The video is somewhere on youtube or metacafe.
and if there was a bird strike why did the pilot use reverse thrust on the engine stated 'cos if there was a bird stike the engine would have been usless to se reverse thrust
hes not asking to see 200 people burn to death in a crash, all he said was "more fire next time" that doesn't translate into 'i wanted to see it crash and watch 200 people burn to death'
And exactly what else do you expect to happen if an airliner catches fire? Are you seriously telling me that you see nothing wrong with asking to see videos of an aircraft burning with people on-board?
12 birds are really a little too much, a bird of only a half pound weight can destroy a whole jet engine. I´ve seen pictures of 737 engines which swallowed such little birds.
and this 752 defenitely hadn´t an engine failure. then if, it wouldn´t have use the reverses after touch down, the assymetrical deceleration would get the plane immediately off the runway.
You really believe it?? No plane can take 12 birds without any effect on the engines. And as an airraft mechanic believe me, the bigger the fan blades get, the worse the effects of a bird strike become.
During take-off, the plane´s right engine swallowed a bird, engine banged and spitted fire out. So flew over Manchester where the pilots dumped fuel, and got back safely.
not really a medium sized bird will fracture the fan blade, there is NO example of a fan blade taking a brid strike without damage, its just logic, besides I have suffered a bird strike in a jey aircraft at slightly faster speed
I flew from Rhodes to Manchester with Excel airways and we ended up having to make an emergency landing in Athens due to 'technical problems'. There is lots of information on the web about Excel aircraft running into difficulties - surely far too much for such a relatively small fleet?
My other experiences of this airline dictate that I'll never use it again - it's piss poor!
Might have been Hydraulic's or anything...but thats the skill of the flight crew... make it look routine! Notice the fire truck and the roll out is longer than normal for this runway and a/c type.
not all emergency landings have to have sparks and explosions...is could be anything from flap troubles to a sick passenger. most emergency landings made by planes dont involve anything too threatening. i was on a southwest airlines flight from LAS - PDX that had to turn around due to flap troubles, we got fire trucks and the whole deal, but a nice smooth landing ill tell ya that

well the people don't necessarily have to burn, but maybe just the tire, or a few sparks lighting some dry grass on fire should be interesting...

Yes, but can it take 12 albatrosses ?

What was the emergency? One engine out?
Chuckjagermeister 5 years ago
BAHAHAHAH! TYPICAL EXCEL AIRWAYS I TELL YA XD I've flown with them once on a 767-200, we had:
2 aborted takeoffs
Tires blew when we got to stopover
(took 4 hours to change tires)
and All meals burnt to a crisp. (we thought there was an engine fire at first)
Also.. The same aircraft clipped wings with another aircraft a few days later.. gutted. XD
jackomabby 5 years ago
it really looks lyk it needs a emergency landing...but that the pilots are calm and they land the plane nice and safely
fatevsthewarmth 5 years ago
Look at the engines, full reverse thrust lol.
But yeah, manchester, hella commercial certified landing.
BTW; if you were doing an emerg landing, you usually got to a commercially certified runway <_<
gkfhjfgbfdjbglh 5 years ago
If you have an emergency you can land where ever you want and nobody can stop you.
jmr604 5 years ago
Oh, I know, I am saying, it would be a lot easier and safer if you landed at a commercially certified runway

Hwak005 5 years ago
This is Manchester International one of Englands busiest airports, it definatly is rated for Commercial Jetliners =)
ChrisAston 5 years ago
There are 4 commercial airliners viewable in the first frame alone. 3 of which are on the ground left of the runway.
