Hmmmm....watching it again, I may have to change my mind about planque's ideas and say it might be Lucifer... "you monkeys don't deserve redemption"? "...divine right to rule this earth"? "I am your god..."? Eerily resonant of a fallen angel wanting what he thinks is his. Interesting....

Kojima is a master of suspense even if he doesn't have hands-on, you know his team will confide in him and get his opinions then incorporate it into the game. Can't wait!

I personally cannot wait for this game. I for one agree somewhat with planque's comments as I think it is a demon or dark angel of some sort. Not sure about Lucifer but if you look at the story of Dracula, it is riddled with religious symbolism. The cross, God, betrayal, fallen holy warrior, it all fits and ties into the Castlevania mythology. What if Gabriel is becoming Death in this game? Maybe the dark powers corrupt him. Isn't the angel of death's name Gabriel? Something to think about...

@sonofa777, Nope the angel of death's name isn't Gabriel, it's Azrael. However I think Azrael might of had a different name before he became death. Might of been Gabriel I dunno. Still.. I doubt they would of went that far into christian mythology just for a twist.

Looks like Gabriel has the "morning star" attached to a cross rather than the leather whip made with alchemy. A different trailer for this game showed the morning star on fire....awesome!!!

As long as it explains the origins of the whip, being one of these artifacts.

1: The whip that scourged Christ, is now used against Dracula. The blood of Christ giving the whip certain properties only usable by a pure hearted warrior.

2:The Flaming Sword that turns every which way, guarding the way to the Tree of Life...now keeps Dracula imprisoned to prevent the death of the world.

the origins were explained in Castlevania: Lament of Innocence, but this game takes place in a timeline separate from the other castlevania games, so that doesn't matter anymore.

The same goes for the subweapons. Their story wasn't explained either. And what the hell was up with that gauntlet? Was that suppose to be a comprimise between Japanese and European culture? japs never used shields, they used arm guards.

Leon with a shield and a better haircut and better clothes is something I would have welcomed.

Christianity cliche? WHAT!?!?! I have never heard any game using a *FLAMING SWORD* or *THE SCOURGE OF CHRIST* in the story line. Those would be original and uber GOTHIC. It would fit perfectly.

most belmonts DON'T have crosses on their backs. i can't even think of a single one that DOES. i'm not saying i have a problem with christianity in the game. but lament of innocence's idea is much more original than using christian relics.

I agree with you 100%...The whip came from the death of an innocent woman...the love of her and all the hatred that Leon felt is the origin of the hatred of the Belmond family tree. If you use a "real" religion as a symbol of a game you're getting BIG problems (legal ones...you know religious people..."It's insulting" "Jesus something something!")

Let's keep it "fiction"...BTW Kojima likes to jerk around the public so just wait a HUGE plot twist.

due to how dracula(?) speaks of how he will wipe the name "Belmont" from the face of the earth, I must assume that this happens between Castlevania and Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest

You must understand that the Castlevania games did not occur in chronological order. The first time the Belmont clan encountered and saw the rise of Dracula was during Casltevania: Lament of Innocence the first Castlevania PS2 game.

Also this game could not have occured between Castlevania and Simon's quest because Dracula remained dead in between the games. During Simon's Quest, Simon Belmont had to ressurect Dracula by obtaining his body parts and kill him again because Dracula put a curse on him after Simon defeated Dracula during the original Castlevania. Thus the prescence of Dracula in this game tells us that it occured between the other games.
