A game for dumb young bucks who want a fast paycheck. Or dumb young family folk who got roped into a quick heart attack. Dumb quick death or a slow family struggle for fuckin Alaskan crab that is served re-heated. Re-Heated sucks.
@twoNujabes I would imagine they are electro-magnets, it's energized only to grab the pot then turned off to let go, so if it does affect a magnetic compass it can be turned off. Besides, I would imagine all of these vessels are using GPS compasses that are much more accurate.
@twoNujabes They're actually not magnets. They're just tires at the end of a crane. If I want to hazard a guess, it's probably used to cushion the pot to the top of the crane without it going into the pulley. It may also act as a stabilizer to keep the pot from swinging upward into the crane from the rough weather they encounter, but that one is probably not accurate....

@sandis52 they're not doing it for food. they're doing it for money. it's a difficult job and requires a shitload of courage. it takes a certain kind of person to be able to wake up one morning, get dressed, geared, get on a ship and head off for weeks in the most hostile naval environment on the planet. at the very least, show respect for people who do something you may not even dream of having the ability to do. my condolences to the Captain's family. he was a good man...
He suffered a massive stroke while offloading crab on January 29, 2010. Despite improvements in his health, Phil died on February 9, 2010 while in the hospital at age 53
These guys really need to get Dr. Lundell's Heartshot supplement while out there.
a Yale Physician who performed over 5000 successful heart surgeries realized that all the complications of stroke, heart disease, cholesterol, type II diabetes, etc. are all linked to the internal inflammation of all blood vessels. He combined some of the most powerful antioxidants into one serum called HeartShot. He recently developed the world's first Antioxidant Gourment Coffee!
my job is just as deadly but i have logs instead of waves same dangers exsist any turn of logs or any crab pot in or out could be our last just that quick GAME OVER!
before he actually died his youngest went into rehab which made his pop proud...he was real worried about him..the oldest i think is still on the boat...its just sad and fucked up...you get all close to guys you have never met out in the bering sea...check out ...i think it is capt phil last trip (you tube )..
@campolicejeff We all have a date with death.. you think you don't? It sounds as if it is regrettable to you that this man didn't die of something tobacco related.
I enjoy Deadliest Catch it is basically the only reality based show I do enjoy. However, the promoted video on the side bar is BP, oh yeah just promote BP on a fishing show video. Not getting on Discovery but youtube and BP.
@ExcuSexy the way that it is on the show is not the way that it is in real life. You have to remember that it is a tv show. My family does that stuff we are Alaskan fisher people and that means crabbing, shrimping, trolling, and the worst longlinning. The only fishery that they have yet to make a show of. Long linning they go into far deeper waters and and much smaller boats than the crab boats. They tender in the summer, which is long and very boring and not so good pay.. They outta sho
More like the dumbest catch, lol. Eventhough its their job and how they make a living, you gots to be sick and wacko seeing all the danger in doing this. Hearts out to all those lost.
Deadliest Catch is the only show where people have actually died on the show so it is the ultimate reality show. The very first season a boat capsized killing five crew members.
They didn't leave port because the heli wasn't cleared to fly, so they couldn't film em leaving port. There's no race to catch as much as you can, all the ships have quotas, so they all know how much they will get.
The show tries very hard to give the viewer the impression that fishing is as dangerous as it used to be, decades ago. It isn't, but they try their best at setting the odds against the crew. I.E. a greenhorn is required on each boat, and showboating.
@Knoar If its not dangerous why have fisherman died on this show? Remember the very first season there were a half dozen deaths, five from a captsized boat and another man lost overboard. Ask the families of those men and of the men who died in later seasons if Deadliest Catch is reality or not.
@Knoar, You are a idiot. So what do you think that they make the weather look nasty for the viewers.. What do you do for a living????? thats what I thought!!
@Knoar There is a big difference between having a quota and actually meeting that quota. You say they have a quota so they know how much they will get. A quota is something to be met. It's not a guarantee that you will actually catch that amount. They need to catch a certain amount just to break even, let alone make a profit. I don't think the crab see the pot's on the bottom of the sea and go running to climb in because they know about the quota. These men work hard.
@Msdistarr Oh don't get me wrong, these guys definitely work their asses off in an extremely dangerous environment. I'm just saying, it ain't shit compared to what it used to be.
I met most the crew off the Time Bandit when I was in Dutch Harbor. They agree with everything I've said.
@Knoar Thanks for clearing that up. I thought you were bashing our boys. Can't have that now. We are a protective bunch! As far as the danger, I can see that it would be safer now than it used to be simply due to technology but I think when you work out in the "Elements" what you can control is really limited. Especially out in the water. If Mother Nature decides to act up, you'll be going on one hell of a ride. But you got your info from the horses mouth. Can't argue with that. :)
One of my favourite shows and I have a lot of respect for these guys. The crab [especially Opelio] is one of my favourite fish to eat. I love the taste. These guys are great and they definantly earn a lot of respect for the work they do. It's so sad what happens when somebody dies but it just happens.
I do this for a season and donate my earnings to whatever programs are out there for fishermen. I would be leaving with more than enough life lessons, taking money would be stealing.

I enjoy Deadliest Catch it is basically the only reality based show I do enjoy. However, the promoted video on the side bar is BP, oh yeah just promote BP on a fishing show video. Not getting on Discovery but youtube and BP.

ExcuSexy 1 year ago
@ExcuSexy the way that it is on the show is not the way that it is in real life. You have to remember that it is a tv show. My family does that stuff we are Alaskan fisher people and that means crabbing, shrimping, trolling, and the worst longlinning. The only fishery that they have yet to make a show of. Long linning they go into far deeper waters and and much smaller boats than the crab boats. They tender in the summer, which is long and very boring and not so good pay.. They outta sho

Deadliest Catch is the only show where people have actually died on the show so it is the ultimate reality show. The very first season a boat capsized killing five crew members.
vampyregirl100 1 year ago
deadliest catch is the best program ever!
Henrikkove 1 year ago
These shows are such bs.
I.E. a greenhorn is required on each boat, and showboating.

vampyregirl100 1 year ago
@Knoar If its not dangerous why have fisherman died on this show? Remember the very first season there were a half dozen deaths, five from a captsized boat and another man lost overboard. Ask the families of those men and of the men who died in later seasons if Deadliest Catch is reality or not.
vampyregirl100 1 year ago
@Knoar jealous cuz they are real men
donjharman 1 year ago
@Knoar, You are a idiot. So what do you think that they make the weather look nasty for the viewers.. What do you do for a living????? thats what I thought!!
Amber5540 1 year ago
@Knoar There is a big difference between having a quota and actually meeting that quota. You say they have a quota so they know how much they will get. A quota is something to be met. It's not a guarantee that you will actually catch that amount. They need to catch a certain amount just to break even, let alone make a profit. I don't think the crab see the pot's on the bottom of the sea and go running to climb in because they know about the quota. These men work hard.
Msdistarr 1 year ago
@Msdistarr Oh don't get me wrong, these guys definitely work their asses off in an extremely dangerous environment. I'm just saying, it ain't shit compared to what it used to be.
I met most the crew off the Time Bandit when I was in Dutch Harbor. They agree with everything I've said.
Knoar 1 year ago
@Knoar Thanks for clearing that up. I thought you were bashing our boys. Can't have that now. We are a protective bunch! As far as the danger, I can see that it would be safer now than it used to be simply due to technology but I think when you work out in the "Elements" what you can control is really limited. Especially out in the water. If Mother Nature decides to act up, you'll be going on one hell of a ride. But you got your info from the horses mouth. Can't argue with that. :)

These guys are great and they definantly earn a lot of respect for the work they do. It's so sad what happens when somebody dies but it just happens.
