Units sold is irrelavant on the impact in Hip Hop culture which 3rd Bass way out weighs Hammer on. His points are invalid as his importance, unlike 3rd Bass who added growth to Hip Hop. The expansion of the art and culture and being solid in that area is what matters not how many records you can sell. Like Nas' "Illmatic" initially did horrible but is now one of the most classic albums of all time. That is what is timeless!
Hammer need to shut the hell up,actin like hes great he had one song that made it big because of the time frame it was released in, and then he was nothing after that and went bankrupt... it has nothing to do wit sales that doesnt make you a good artist, you can still play songs like "gasface" and "steppin to the am" and that shit will still sound dope! do that with "cant touch this" out your car etc you will get clowned and laughed at, who plays that shit today? real Hip Hop is timeless!!!
Hammer..still a punk aqss bitch after all these years. Only think Hammer could do better was dance. 3rd Bass killed it, had better beats and better lyrics. Hammer was a pop icon, nothing serious.
@MrCaso8 - Lol Funny shit dude!! ;) Maybe he'll wear his funny pants coz all hiphop lordz were wearing them back in the day, yeah I remember LL and Chubb with their parachute pants:) Fucking wack ass pop star!!
that nut ass dude is on crack! both 3rd Bass albums went gold! over 1.5 million sold, which was good in that time frame. Hammer mad cause Jay dissed his ass and didn't even reply 2 that weak shyt Hammer put out as a reply.....lol
Wtf Hammer, why you talking with a bad man accent???? Serch and 3rd Bass 300k sales?? You need to get your shit straight. You are a sold out pop star - give me Back To The Grill over U Cant Touch This every fucking day of the week. The first and only time you're addressing it, maybe you think its a bit of street cred to mention you putting a hit out on another group. Fuck man, you ain't Biggie Smalls. You had your time, stop trying to make associations with hiphop. You're a finished pop act!!
....... fuck hammer. thats not serches claim to fame lol. serch executive produced ILLMATIC, hammer has never been in the same room where music like that was being created. washed up motherfucker. HAMMER TIME!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Fuck Search & All Those Niggaz For Letting A White Boy DisRespect Another Nigga...I Hope He (Search) Wasnt Dissing Hammer For Dancing BCuzz His Ass Was Doing The Running Man In EveryBody's Video.. ie.. "The Cookie Crew - Born This Way" Video..Fuccin Wigga..I Prefer Racist Whites Over Wanna B Nigga White Folk..Hammer Was Ill Cuzz..West Coast Style Nigga..We Sell Millions Over Here Loc..
As much as I give props to 3rd Bass, they built much (if not all) of their mainstream rep off of taking shots at MC Hammer. Everyone knows the dude wasn't the greatest rapper...But he's one of the best all-around entertainers that hip-hop has ever seen, not to mention a guy that "put on for his city" before that phrase was even fashionable. I have all he respect in the world for the guy, the history of hip-hop would be incomplete if you left him out of the picture.
Hammer said that 3rd Bass, more specifically MC Serch, was irrelevant. However, they are & he is. To continue off of what a friend posted on here, it was Serch that put Nas on. Before there was an Eminem, the only white rappers to date then were the Beastie Boys, 3rd Bass, & Everlast. To say that they only sold 300k in records is false. I guess going Gold on your first two albums is to be shitted on I guess then right? The line between what's dope & what sells out right? Hammer was wrong.
not to hate on hammer, but if i were stuck on an island and had to choose between listening to hammer or 3rd bass....i'm going with 3rd bass. just sayin'
Hammer couldn't RAP but he was a OUTSTANDING ENTERTAINER!!! Rap Artist back then always disrespected him about commercials, cereal, his cartoon, his doll, and his gym shoe contract..... but the TRUTH is they wanted to sell alot of records themselves!!!! Nowadays the same rappers that annilhilated his CHARACTER are the same beings that's doing what he done 2o yrs. ago..... Think about it.....!!!!
Which is funny because his act made him far from an MC, which is a performer/hype man. Hammer was a little more than a dancing fool for his white fans...a wannabe hip-hop minstrel. He sealed his fate when he started dancing for The Addams Family.
Hammer, Serch was real, you was fake.. I don't care if Serch sold only 1 record, he's still better.. Third Bass said it wasn't about the money from the very start!
Serch and 3rd bass in general were completly rite about hammer and now reord sales seem to dictate good the great artists watever Serch was and still is actual Hip Hop Hammers has been record sales dont mean shit ,not even hatin
N0W hammer dont even come close to being a lyricst! not what i said at all ! but he was one of the greast hiphop entertainers there was and thats what i m giving him props on. 3rd bass was a one hit flash in the pan rap group that claim to fame is dissing the most sucessful hiphop artist at the time (which now would be call playa hating) thats it thats all dude MEDIOCORE AT BEST! dam sure wasnt no fuckin pimps and macks like they was actin! pop goes the weasel these nuts !
the great mc serch, true hiphop,.....................BULLSHIT!@chyeabuds you must be smoking buds rite now! hammer not a true m.c. but a hip hop entertainer. sell out you say or innovator on how all hip hop artist run there buisness now a days from jay-z to 50 cent .so if he was a sellout they all walking rite in his footsteps. All of them do whats called now as" BRANDING" clothing lines ,web sites, endorsments, commercials, movies, hosting all types of events!
fuck mc serch! that white boy was fake ass hell! white boy trying to be black i.e. vanilla ice ! hammer was oringinal, maybe not the best mc but a true entertainer. he took hiphop on a whole new plateau at the height of his career! two fake pimpin /m.c. white rappers with wack ass beats, gas face these nuts from 20 years back! hammer filled arenas and sold millions of records! them muthafuckaz couldnt toke hammer's jock across the stage back then!
@slimfontaine You must have absolutely no knowledge of REAL HIPHOP. Hammer said at 1:29 "You thought the running man was more than a dance..." - HE'S THE FAKE FUCK; not Serch. The great MC Serch didn't make music just to claim his fame. He did it for his props in the street, and to give props to all the cats who paved the way for HipHop. Hammer exploited the commercialization and business aspect of "HITPOP" that was created in the 90s because corporate America knew it would sell... OUT that is!!
@slimfontaine Why don't you ask yourself who was the most influential and successful rappers of all time are. I'm sure that Nasty Nas comes to mind. Well guess who put him on the scene... MC SERCH!! While Hammer was busy signing autographs, slapping his face on useless products like colognes and coffee mugs consumed by kids in the suburbs, and talking with Oprah Winfrey SERCH was living comfortably knowing that was he was doing was reaching his people and helping him and those around him prosper
@slimfontaine So I hope you choke on your words as you realize that true hiphop comes in many shapes and forms, but it all comes from one place. THE HEART; regardless of skin tone.
I always respected Hammer as a person, and even his music we all gotta admit we liked that shit when we were kids, but everybody knows quality music is more than just about album sales. 3rd base weren't the greatest thing ever, but they did have integrity with their stuff.
hammer still gets respect truth 2 be told a lot of rappers r selling they souls 2 even go 300,000 now it way harder now 2 move that many units hammer entertained the world 3rd bass entertained the streets cant get mad at either get in where u fit in
i like how Hammer tries to act like he doesn't know what's going on. You know "Hip Hop law" and you know those white boys could rap circles around your ass. It wasn't your rhyme skills selling records. It was your dance skills. That's the real truth. You couldn't rap but you could dance and dancing sells. Its happening now. Black Thought can kill Will I Am but Will got em dancing. That's how he moves units.

I was living in the Bay when Hammer was coming out. He had this song they would play on KPOO called "Go Hammer Go".I guess it was in reference to his dancing and they would play it like it was THE WHEEL! Anyway... I wrote Hammer off at that point. Then I saw the video for "The News" by Hammer. Yeah, that track was tight! His presence was excellent. I knew it was a done deal then, dude was definitely about to make some moves.
For 'Hip Hop' though 3rd Bass will be remembered for tracks and lyrics
mc hammer can try rattle Serch about record sales. even though its irrelevant.
but then again, when the video for the gas face pretty much has 3rd bass, KMD, EPMD, Run DMC, Flavor Flav, Salt n Pepa and Dom Newkirk all giving hammer the gasface, all in one music video.. hammer "isn't relevant in a conversation" with 3rd Bass
The problem with 3rd Base is they were way ahead of their time. White America wasn't ready to see white people truly live the hip hop lifestyle. The need tongue in cheek first( Vanilla Ice and Beastie Boys). If Hammer and 3rd Base were around today, 3rd Base would be the big money makers and Hammer probably would be more of a showman than a rapper.
First of all, who cares about record sales? And second, Hammer in the first place should have never dissed Run DMC in his video, so Serch and other east MC's was backing up Run DMC the guys who opened the door for Hammer, and lastly Serch of course is a much better rapper than Hammer, clown!!
Funny how so many talk about how record sales don't matter...until it's YOUR favorite artist selling the records. If 3rd Bass blew up 20 years ago and sold millions, ya'll would be licking their asses 20 years later talking about album sales and how they crushed the competition.
Hammer could not keep true... what has he done? dancer... rapper.... preacher... born again... HAMMER was still wack. He should have been called Dancer Hammer.
Wow, I always thought Hammer was ok. Not anymore. Saying that Serch doesn't belong in a sentence with him? I don't remember Serch wearing retarded genie pants in a Taco Bell commercial. And at least 3rd Bass didn't go broke supporting a 150 person entourage. Hammer, you were overrated and you seem like a pompous ass now. You tried to go gangsta and it flopped. You're no longer relevant and you haven't been since the early 90's. Get over it.
Its funny that in 1990 Serch/3rd Bass ripped Hammer for damaging Hip Hop and almost 20 years later he does the White Rapper show on VH-1!! Don't get me wrong though, Hammer was definitely WACK!! The rap industry will always have guys who are able to come up with catchy hooks/dances that will crossover and allow them to sell millions. Hammer was one of the first to do it and he paved the way for others to follow him!! Now there are so many of them, its destroyed hip hop.
You do know pop is short for popular right? That is why it is called the pop charts. And by the way, they talked about Hammer first. You say Hammer can't defend himself? Slavery is over.
@mbandrews1 Homeslice: I am a Black Studies major, and slavery really isn't over if you look at our jail system. Yes, I know that Pop is short for popular; Fan is short for fanatic; and Pro is short for professional. Those things don't change the fact that MC Hammer is a bullshit artist who likes to think he's hip hop.
THE ONLY THING I DIDNT LIKE ABOUT HAMMER WAS THAT HE DIDNT HANDLE ALL THOSE RAPPERS WHO WAS SAYING HE A SELL OUT. HAMMER NEVER CLAIMED TO BE GANGSTA IN THE FIRST PLACE WE NOW KNOW THEY WAS HATING
@blacksupaman1 Hammer issues was not that he came out saying he was a gangsta rapper which no one ever said he was trying to do. The issue for the last time fool was Hammer trying to battle on his first album and got put in his place.
@SeanKirtland Thank you, and that methodology of record sales didn't exist 20 years ago. Hammer is trying to re-write history to paint a picture that didn't happen.
I respect 3rd Bass because truth be told Hammer tried to come out trying to diss RUN DMC pioneers of the art to its next form and 3rd Bass came out dissing him for that crap..Lyrically speaking Hammer was garbage is he a good dude i hear so.. "but an eMCee dont even try to be"-RAkim..
@phoen99rising He's not and lying about record sales from 3rd bass to boot. The Cactus album went Gold (500,00) units and is one of the most requested albums for re-print. Hammer albums up for re-print by request, yeah I am waiting to see that number. I use to have some respect for Hammer until I saw this video.
i had some level of respect 4 hammer for doin his thing back in the day, but to come out and diss 3rd bass for record sales 20yrs later because u got lucky with a sample that made u millions (which u blew on your (crew where r they now)! the only reason your talkin on tv now is for your wack tv show, 3rd bass always has and always will have more relavance than you as far as true hip hop is concerned.
mc hammer can still get the gassface in 2011 all the way from europe after 27 years you still cant rhyme you just lucky you took a rick james sample and thats that
Interesting, I can see where Hammer is coming from, I like 3rd Bass, but they used to get of on dissin' people. HOWEVER, THE BEASTIE BOYS MURKED THEM ON 'PROFESSOR BOOTY'..... I thought 3rd Bass were a great group (im listening to 2nd album as i type this) but they were a bit weasely..... Serch signed NAS to Sony so props for that. The Group NON-FIXTON he tried to do the same thing and they hate him now.... Hammer got a point, but he aint done shit since 'you cant touch this'...... i like em both
@mcdammers Hey man I hate to tell you this but 3rd Bass didn't get off on dissing any one. 3rd Bass had a ton of positive lyrics promoting the uplifting of Blacks. You need to listen to them again, and the Beastie Boys didn't murk 3rd Bass by any notion of that silly word. Learn you Hip Hop history. The Beastie Boys may have had success with their albums with whites but their only recognized album for total Hip Hop success is the first one and you know that.
Whoooo!! Hold on. Im quite aware of my hip hop history actuaully. I've been a fan for around 20 years. I have 'Cactus' and 'Derelicks' albums. I like the latter, which is your favorite? I do believe they went OTT dissing other acts for no reason and it did gain them publicity! But thats my opinion! Also in response to the Beasties, your saying that 'Pauls Boutique' is not a favorite with the hip hop fans???? I disagree completely. Im extremely well read on hip hop thank you...
@mcdammers No what I am saying is that the Beastie Boys lost respect with the real hip hop heads when they left Def Jam for Capitol which is why they had beef with 3rd Bass and other Def Jam artist. When the Beasties went to capitol they were aimed at a more Hip rock audience. That's my comment referring to the BBs, Oh and I like the Cactus album better just more dirty to me.
@ftown631 Hey man just to let you know how much of a lying dog Hammer is, I researched the album sales and here's what I found. 3rd bass albums The Cactus album and the Derelicts of Dialects both are certified Gold actually over 500,000 in sales for both albums. B Angie B first and only album sold 137,000 copies no where near gold. Oak town 357 had very minor success and not enough album sales to be reported by sound scan.
You gotta respect his hustle, but the reality is Hammer, Search found a place for himself in hip hop long term, while you are a a reality show has been!
@pathh88 I WAS around back in the days and I fucked with hammer just like I fucked with BDP,Kane,Ice T,Geto Boys, muh phukkas diss hammer for doin his own thing and cause he wasn't from new York people shit on him.THAT's WACK!
lmao at dudes sayin hammer is on point and hammer was real, STFU you obviously were not around back in the days cos no real Hip Hop head was feeling him, pop fans were and that is how he sold his numbers. 3rd Bass tore him apart as did Black Sheep and Hammer lost the battle, fruck the numbers game cos that is a red herring in the story....hammer been wack and still is.
to be real 3rd base was not the only dudes dissing Hammer and Vanilla Ice, Most East Coast rappers where. Secondly Artist are getting paid but the hip hop community's soul is bankrupt. Look at it today, what 3rd base was talking about has come to past in today music. No one cares about the art just the money. Today doesn't have a great community of rap artist, just a few and the rest live of a catchy hook here and there. Half of them sound like they only have a 3rd grade education.
Pt. 1 Hammer forgets that we all know what happened at the Source office when he didn't get the cover back in tha DAY! Sending crips to do his dirty work (like always). If the hit on 3rd Bass wasn't true, why did they need crip escorts for there first shows in L.A.?
Pt. 2 Hammer I will get you some day. You are Wack and still are. Yo, your wife is ugly and your kids are nerdy ass punks (seen the show once). For those of you who might think I went to far. TUFF, this is Hip-Hop. I will dis his moms. Wait I better not. That's how 3rd Bass got in trouble!
hammers music was more dance music for the clubs, plus he was a great entertainer with his shows & video clips which made popular with everyone not just the hip-hop community.
hammers music was more dance music for the clubs, plus he was a great entertainer with his shows & video clips which made popular with everyone not just the hip-hop community.
MCHammer was real rap it's just that other rapper didn't feel he should have as large as he got. 3rd Bass to me even back then was garbage they was on that pop rap to and to me was jealous of Hammer's success. I was not even a Run DMC fan back then to me they were garbage I was more for EPMD , Public enemy, Big daddy Kane etc etc
@blacktigerwu Get real 3rd Bass was on Pop rap on what planet did you fall from. No one was jealous of Hammer, Hammer was jealous of the fact that east coast rappers had the majority of the air play back then. He made it a point to come out dissing Rum DMC and LL Kool J. Learn your Hip Hop history before trying to re-write it.
@esamuels35 Naw you need to learn your hiphop , rappers have always gone at rappers who were making a whole lot of money when they felt like they shouldn't be. That's how it was then if you were pop then cats was gonna come at you. Pop only means Popular music Just like Ice cube dissed Hammer in who's the mack he said "giving our music away to the main stream don't you know they ain't down with the team' 3rd Bass sucked they were jealous of Hammer success plain and simple.
@esamuels35 Look to the right of the screen MC Hammer "Can't touch this" almost 9 million views .......3rd Bass Pop goes the weasel a lil over 3 hundred thousand. Even today Hammer is far bigger than 3rd bass. 3rd bass were a bunch of clowns , my brother bought they albums and when I listened to them even then I was like these are a couple jewish white boys trying to ACT black , now who was frontin back then.
@blacktigerwu First clown do some research first before committing fraud like Hammer. 3rd Bass albums have sold over 500,000 copies each both The Cactus and the Derelicts of Dialects by the sound scan reporting group. B Angie B only sold 137,000 copies and Oaktown 357 didn't even sell that many. So now what are you going to say that because Hammer sold 10 million copies of that garbage album Two legit to Quit he has talent, and next you will say Soulja boy as well.
@esamuels35 ....Hammer isnt Nas, but lets not get ridiculous and compare him to Souljer boy...okay. And Hammer was considered a sellout out in those days, but lets position Hammer's actions and music against today's hip hop? would he still be considered a sell out for creating cartoons in his likeness, rapping in a pop-influenced hip hip style, and doing commercials? I like 3rd Bass and a lot of the cats that dissed Hammer, but be real those disses were fueled by jealousy more than anything.
@flipgood89 Lets not position Hammer's actions from 20 years ago against today. You can't re-write history because of what's going on today. We are not talking about rappers who only do music for money today, no that is not the issue here, we are commenting about Hammer's actions from 20 years ago. Hammer was a sell out because Hip Hop was a totally different genre than it is today, back then your talent spoke for itself not your marketing skills. You can say he helped started the junk of today.
@flipgood89 And have you seen interviews from artist back in the day and I mean all artist not the ones he had beef with. No one respected Hammer 20 years ago because we all knew he was doing it for the money, I know it is shocking to you people of today that only respect money, but we had morals and codes in Hip Hop 20 years ago, you can't get in the way back machine with peabody and sherman and change history. And changing history is what Hammer is atempting to do. Peace
@esamuels35 ...Hammer was socially conscious too, so it wasnt like his music was completely disconnected from the struggle. Ever hear of joints like "pray"....just because he wasnt ultra serious all the time, dont make him some happy go lucky negro. He did a lot for a lot of people. Stop being so mad and having such a narrow vision of what a black artist is supposed to be. Stop listening to ur hating ass fav rappers too.
@flipgood89 Get this straight I was there during this Hammer period, there was nothing socially conscious about Hammer, and pray is about using a so-called Christian approach to problems which I don't believe in Christianity in the first place. This isn't about religion this is about skills and talent and selling out to make money. You have not proven I am wrong you are just defending someone you admire, I have no ill will towards Hammer, he did alot for his community.
@flipgood89 Oh and last point, Hammer did alot for his community I will never take anything away from anyone doing something positive. Hammer's charitable contributions are not at question here. The facts are just that Hammer sold out let it go. Now a better song that Hammer showed he had some socially conscious demeanor is All in the Same gang by numerous West Coast artist. I am done with you on this subject Peace!
@esamuels35 ....ur too emotional to have a rational convo with anyway. I might be a young head, but I know my shit. The older Gods put me on game. Your thoughts are too contradictory anyway and dont follow a clear path of logic. You grab and pick whatever you want to fit your narrative of anger. These cats are old as shit anyway, talkin about beef from 20 years ago. Let it go! Peace to you, brotha!
@flipgood89 Oh and one last word, don't compare our mindsets back 20 years ago with the sick mindsets of people of today. Your logic is exactly why music is crap, as long as you make money big deal right, and you wonder why there is no quality of music to choose from today. I guess you people get what you put out; if I only admired someone for their earning potential I guess I would admire Hammer
@esamuels35 u need to chill. Why is hammer such a sellout? Because he danced and did a few commercials. He's a sellout 'cause he wanted to make money? Ey, news flash, ur favorite rappers back n the day were all about the money too. He may not have been Rakim on the mic, but he was a damn good entertainer that pumped out better overall music than a lot of heads. U call Hammer names, but u know what he did with his money? He took care of ALL of his peoples from the hood. Why he want broke....
Yeah boy and YOU need to learn your hip hop history before you go MISSPELLING the names of legends like LL Cool J and RUN DMC. You just wrecked yourself, next time check yourself.
@zapwatt Really is that all you have is to say I misspelled LL Kool J and RUN DMC. Stay on topic buddy, because you understood exactly what I spoke, you just don't have any real response other that this ridiculous comment you wrote back. Dispute the facts not the spelling of the artist names dummy. And for the record how did I misspell RUN DMC and I used K instead of C because I wanted to use the Hip Hop spelling of cool but I guess you got me on that right.
#1 the spirit of my comment was and still is that if you are going to pick other people's nits then you'd better come correct yourself. Hammer would site Matthew 7:3 I believe.
#2 You did misspell both the names I mentioned and all you have to do is reread your own comments to see that but perhaps you are just too busy battling everybody here because I see half of this page is authored by you.
#3 You are quite intelligent and make many good points. Just come correct.
@zapwatt O kay I will make this last point, I will give you the misspelling of the word Cool and I could not find my comment so if I mispelled RUN DMC sorry. I do know how to spell this could have been an oversight due to fast typing for the RUN DMC spelling. My last point is that Hammer is only address this now because he feels that like most Americans people have a 15 second memory span and would not remember the way he actually handled this when it happened.
The best thing serch did for hip hop was bringing it Nas. Serch was wack ass rapper. Hammer was the first huge crossover success for hip hop and hammer is a street dude from Oakland that did party music and gangsta rap genre became popular and ended his career on top. Ask yourselves this they said a lot on records but they wouldn't say that to his face why? Hammer is street certified more than some of your favorite rappers smh lmao
Anyone who says Serch was a decent rapper needs they ass kicked! Secondly this is a business about selling music, and Hammer sold a whole hell of a lot more records than 3rd bass. As he said, Angie B sold more than 300k. Hammer sold 300k in the first hour of his album dropping. Get outta here!
First of all, who cares about record sales? And second, Hammer in the first place should have never dissed Run DMC in his video, so Serch and other east MC's was backing up Run DMC the guys who opened the door for Hammer, and lastly Serch of course is a much better rapper than Hammer, clown!!
@zadkiel04 Check for Hammer's first video I believe, he had a scene of a fake Run DMC in the video dissing them, and when Run DMC responded on Arsenio Hall, along with many of Run DMC's peers on the east coast backing them up taking shots at Hammer for dissing the Kings, Hammer tried to make it seem like they was all jealous and hatin on him, for his success. Hammer was always a clown!!
@jwh1999 Damn thats messed up. i gotta check that cuz he was never my cup of tea but people just seemed to clown him so bad that i started to feel sorry for him. Nobody ever brought that Run Dmc shit up. So basicly he got full of himself EARLY!!!lol Wow...u learn something everyday.
MC Hammer and his clownish rap style do not belong in the same conversation with the skills MC Serch and 3rd Bass had. If you think selling more records is the criteria for making you a good rapper, you don't know anything about hip hop. Vanilla Ice sold more records than many of the greatest rappers ever to exist. Remember Eric B & Rakim? Definitely one of the greatest ever, but they're record sales don't compare to what clowns like Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer did.
I'm from born and raise and was around during that time. The bottom line is when Hammer came on the scene and sold millions all the NY rappers were jealous and tried to diss him. Hammer dissed them all back on record like always. Now adays all the rappers who dissed him are doing the same things today that Hammer did back then (TV shows movies commercials etc) so who's really selling out..not Hammer. If anything they should have made music with him instead of trying to diss him
Fact; Like Teddy R, Hammer created a wonderful and might i add, a healthy Dance Movement
I was in the PI, Thailand, JP and the ROK back in day and they loved it
The PE Crew Eric Sadler, Hank Shocklee & Keith Shocklee dropped Stepping on the AM, which yet again created a whole new movement, a Revolution one might say
I only knew serch existed when he popped up on a YoMTV raps video yesterday,, he stunk it up! he was easily the worst rapper on the show and looked like the token white guy in amongst hip-hop legends. He was also one of the worse rappers i have heard. i just looked at a 3rd bass video and it was unbearable. Can't touch this can still set off the dancefloor. Hammer wins.
@AnimayeIsGaye I did not say that, I'm saying it is still Hammer time! .. serch is pish,, 3rd bass = pish,, no-one cares about them anymore,, loosen up, you stiff.
and no i don't shallow fuck,, i go hard in your motherfucking Maw!
Plain and simple hammer is the man, the current state of music just goes to show you where peoples mentalties are now, in the gutter. If im not thuggish and gangster im not keeping it real. Hammer is an intelligent individual who really dont need to get involved in the foolishness. Let me show you real, High school dropouts, drug infested neighborhoods, murders, leading new cases of STD and HIV. we black people lead in all those catagories oh but thats keeping it real.
Record sales only indicate theres alot of simple-minded folk out there that have zero taste or appreciation for real music... 'Im a Barbie Girl' remember that tripe? It solds millions... So whats his point.. Shit music sells?
Whats this guys legacy, did he ever contribute to Hiphop at all??? 'Hammer time!' ....? lol, thats a joke! The years havent made you any wiser!
Damn cheek of this guy! 3rd Bass is REAL Hiphop! He got no right to even be talking about Hiphop, let alone 3rd Bass.
hammer iz missin da point.......he actually wuz makin hip pop waaaay baq day........serch wuz juss puttin dat hammer wuz bound ta ruin hiz own career if he kept it up.......and now bear witness
Hip-hop originated as an urban American cultural phenomenon largely (but not exclusively) based on the music. 3rd Bass was/is grass-roots hip-hop culture while Hammer simply used the music for non-market-specific commercial entertainment. Hammer was a smashing success in selling out hip-hop for sales and believes it's just cause for jealousy but simultaneously fails to understand that this is precisely the reason why the hip-hop community gives him... the gasface.
@Praecor it's really a two way street...Ima huuuuuuuuuge 3rd bass fan & always respected Hammer more so as a performer but here's the truth....they called Hammer a sellout because of his mass marketing and endorsements...today and for the last 15 years, rappers sell clothing, energy drinks, phone cards, video games and anything they can because now they see what Hammer was DIVERSIFYING to be more than just a rapper...even Serch had a reality show because even he know....HE GOTTA MAKE MONEY
I wish I could interview Hammer. Search brought Nas to the world. Hammer played like Mr. Bojangles then when mainstream America got bored with him. He had nothing. Lesson here is never ever turn your back to the street. Dancing around like a fool. Ice T said it best " you played yourself"
C'mon Man, R-U serious? NOBODY Liked Hammer backed then! He sold a buttload of records because soccer moms thought he was "safe". Everybody from both coasts dissed him. E.P.M.D., Redman, Black Sheep, Dela,Tribe, MF Doom, Run DMC, Del, Souls of Mischief, Chubb Rock,The D.O.C., Ice Cube, and LL Cool J all dissed him. Why doesn't he "address" any of them. Man, Kid,Flavor Flav, Bobbito, and even Eric Lasalle were in the gas face video dissin this clown!- My old gym teacher ain't supposed to rap!
The reason they dissed MC Hammer back then because he was the King of Rap during those three years. He was so huge that he bacame a pop icon and decided to challenge the King of Pop. Rappers during that time were like flies to Hammer in those days and were not worth his time. On his first album Hammer challenged the best at that time from Run DMC to LL Cool J. When you are the King of Rap everyone knows your name and want to be on top sitting on the throne. He even had a clone - Vanilla Ice
hammer is a good example of what happens to fake rappers...their just hot for a lil breif moment because their music is trendy..,but once that faze is over you never hear from them or metion them again..like foreal who plays a hammer record nowadays?? fuck your record sales real is what counts!!
he might not of sold as much records cuz he kept it real... in the streets and in hiphop he has way more respect than you...sellin millions n makin millions is temporary it fades away hammer is a great example of that. what matters is respect that lasts forever.. and you dont have that from real hiphop fans hammer never did never will...money made you now your broke noone cares about you and you have no respect in hiphop.. you was just a fake commercialized m.c..
Hammer just doesn't get it. It wasn't about record sales, it was about respect, and Hammer got none. He took rap and turned it into bubblegum pop, along with that joke Vanilla Ice. As as for sales, 300k sales was a real achievement for proper hip hop in those days - Guru (RIP) said "the kid who went gold, yo, that was the wrong one". Gold was huge. 20 years later, Cactus and Derelicts of Dialect stand up. What do we think about Hammer ? hhuuuraaaaaa! Gas Face given, I beg to differ.
If I am not mistaken, I think 3rd base sold more than 300 thousand records. If they did sell that (and I believe they sold more), then it's ok. No rapper at the time was really selling tons of records back then. And some of the great rappers at the time like Big Daddy Kane didn't have platinum records. The fans didn't care
Hammer don't realize that record sales DOES NOT measure TRUE MC's!!!!!!!! Hammer was wack (not as wack as Vanilla ice) 3rd Bass was real...Notice Hammer didn't talk about Run DMC (them cats were in the Gas Face Video kickin the Hammer doll too) Hammer Knows NOT to mess with RUN DMC, because they are the MOST important Rap act EVER....Fall back Hammer....
who really gives a shit.....their both old....their both done....and none of you would rock their music in your rides...only in the privacy of your homes on the down low so nobody would know much less hear it so what the fuck does it matter???......do yall really think hammer or serch gives a fuck about yall??....hells no.....why not drop this wack topic and address real topics like why after 5 yrs louisiana and miss is still fucked up by katrina...killing thousands of blks AND whts????
Malik from "The Game" is another MC Hammer that fool built a $40 million dollar home and now he is broke!

WillieMaggot 2 weeks ago
Hammer need to shut the hell up,actin like hes great he had one song that made it big because of the time frame it was released in, and then he was nothing after that and went bankrupt... it has nothing to do wit sales that doesnt make you a good artist, you can still play songs like "gasface" and "steppin to the am" and that shit will still sound dope! do that with "cant touch this" out your car etc you will get clowned and laughed at, who plays that shit today? real Hip Hop is timeless!!!

The first and only time you're addressing it, maybe you think its a bit of street cred to mention you putting a hit out on another group. Fuck man, you ain't Biggie Smalls. Anyone remember NWA versus Ice Cube?
It's no different then seeing cat fights or squabbling in today's reality shows.

Preach on Brother Hammer!

Hammer was wrong.

slimfontaine 8 months ago
@slimfontaine You must have absolutely no knowledge of REAL HIPHOP. Hammer said at 1:29 "You thought the running man was more than a dance..." - HE'S THE FAKE FUCK; not Serch. The great MC Serch didn't make music just to claim his fame. He did it for his props in the street, and to give props to all the cats who paved the way for HipHop. Hammer exploited the commercialization and business aspect of "HITPOP" that was created in the 90s because corporate America knew it would sell... OUT that is!!
chyeabuds 8 months ago
@slimfontaine Why don't you ask yourself who was the most influential and successful rappers of all time are. I'm sure that Nasty Nas comes to mind. Well guess who put him on the scene... MC SERCH!! While Hammer was busy signing autographs, slapping his face on useless products like colognes and coffee mugs consumed by kids in the suburbs, and talking with Oprah Winfrey SERCH was living comfortably knowing that was he was doing was reaching his people and helping him and those around him prosper

Big difference between search and hammer.
Search and 3rd Bass made quality crafted Hip Hop music.
Hammer made mass produced POP music.
Record sales are only important to companies, not fans of music.
Maybe one day Hammer, you may get that.
You have always been, and always will, be considered a Rap Clown to real hip hop heads.
Plus all those records you and your groups sold.....why did you loose everything?
Because to real business men and investors, you are also a clown.

I was living in the Bay when Hammer was coming out.

And second, Hammer in the first place should have never dissed Run DMC in his video, so Serch and other east MC's was backing up Run DMC the guys who opened the door for Hammer, and lastly Serch of course is a much better rapper than Hammer, clown!!
jwh1999 11 months ago
Funny how so many talk about how record sales don't matter...until it's YOUR favorite artist selling the records. If 3rd Bass blew up 20 years ago and sold millions, ya'll would be licking their asses 20 years later talking about album sales and how they crushed the competition.

The rap industry will always have guys who are able to come up with catchy hooks/dances that will crossover and allow them to sell millions.

I like the latter, which is your favorite? to be real 3rd base was not the only dudes dissing Hammer and Vanilla Ice, Most East Coast rappers where.

Pop only means Popular music Just like Ice cube dissed Hammer in who's the mack he said "giving our music away to the main stream don't you know they ain't down with the team' 3rd Bass sucked they were jealous of Hammer success plain and simple.
blacktigerwu 1 year ago
@esamuels35 Look to the right of the screen MC Hammer "Can't touch this" almost 9 million views .......3rd Bass Pop goes the weasel a lil over 3 hundred thousand. Even today Hammer is far bigger than 3rd bass. 3rd bass were a bunch of clowns , my brother bought they albums and when I listened to them even then I was like these are a couple jewish white boys trying to ACT black , now who was frontin back then.
blacktigerwu 1 year ago
@blacktigerwu First clown do some research first before committing fraud like Hammer. 3rd Bass albums have sold over 500,000 copies each both The Cactus and the Derelicts of Dialects by the sound scan reporting group. B Angie B only sold 137,000 copies and Oaktown 357 didn't even sell that many. So now what are you going to say that because Hammer sold 10 million copies of that garbage album Two legit to Quit he has talent, and next you will say Soulja boy as well.
esamuels35 1 year ago
@esamuels35 ....Hammer isnt Nas, but lets not get ridiculous and compare him to Souljer boy...okay. And Hammer was considered a sellout out in those days, but lets position Hammer's actions and music against today's hip hop? would he still be considered a sell out for creating cartoons in his likeness, rapping in a pop-influenced hip hip style, and doing commercials? I like 3rd Bass and a lot of the cats that dissed Hammer, but be real those disses were fueled by jealousy more than anything.
flipgood89 1 year ago
@flipgood89 Lets not position Hammer's actions from 20 years ago against today. You can't re-write history because of what's going on today. We are not talking about rappers who only do music for money today, no that is not the issue here, we are commenting about Hammer's actions from 20 years ago. Hammer was a sell out because Hip Hop was a totally different genre than it is today, back then your talent spoke for itself not your marketing skills. You can say he helped started the junk of today.
esamuels35 1 year ago
@flipgood89 And have you seen interviews from artist back in the day and I mean all artist not the ones he had beef with. No one respected Hammer 20 years ago because we all knew he was doing it for the money, I know it is shocking to you people of today that only respect money, but we had morals and codes in Hip Hop 20 years ago, you can't get in the way back machine with peabody and sherman and change history. And changing history is what Hammer is atempting to do. Peace
esamuels35 1 year ago
@esamuels35 ...Hammer was socially conscious too, so it wasnt like his music was completely disconnected from the struggle. Ever hear of joints like "pray"....just because he wasnt ultra serious all the time, dont make him some happy go lucky negro. He did a lot for a lot of people. Stop being so mad and having such a narrow vision of what a black artist is supposed to be. Stop listening to ur hating ass fav rappers too.
flipgood89 1 year ago
@flipgood89 Get this straight I was there during this Hammer period, there was nothing socially conscious about Hammer, and pray is about using a so-called Christian approach to problems which I don't believe in Christianity in the first place. This isn't about religion this is about skills and talent and selling out to make money. You have not proven I am wrong you are just defending someone you admire, I have no ill will towards Hammer, he did alot for his community.
esamuels35 1 year ago
@flipgood89 Oh and last point, Hammer did alot for his community I will never take anything away from anyone doing something positive. Hammer's charitable contributions are not at question here. The facts are just that Hammer sold out let it go. Now a better song that Hammer showed he had some socially conscious demeanor is All in the Same gang by numerous West Coast artist. I am done with you on this subject Peace!
esamuels35 1 year ago
@esamuels35 ....ur too emotional to have a rational convo with anyway. I might be a young head, but I know my shit. The older Gods put me on game. Your thoughts are too contradictory anyway and dont follow a clear path of logic. You grab and pick whatever you want to fit your narrative of anger. These cats are old as shit anyway, talkin about beef from 20 years ago. Let it go! Peace to you, brotha!
flipgood89 1 year ago
@flipgood89 Why defend trash? take it out already.
Charismatichyphen 1 year ago
@flipgood89 Oh and one last word, don't compare our mindsets back 20 years ago with the sick mindsets of people of today. Your logic is exactly why music is crap, as long as you make money big deal right, and you wonder why there is no quality of music to choose from today. I guess you people get what you put out; if I only admired someone for their earning potential I guess I would admire Hammer
esamuels35 1 year ago
@esamuels35 u need to chill. Why is hammer such a sellout? Because he danced and did a few commercials. He's a sellout 'cause he wanted to make money? Ey, news flash, ur favorite rappers back n the day were all about the money too. He may not have been Rakim on the mic, but he was a damn good entertainer that pumped out better overall music than a lot of heads. U call Hammer names, but u know what he did with his money? He took care of ALL of his peoples from the hood. Why he want broke....

@esamuels35
Yeah boy and YOU need to learn your hip hop history before you go MISSPELLING the names of legends like LL Cool J and RUN DMC. You just wrecked yourself, next time check yourself.
zapwatt 1 year ago
@zapwatt Really is that all you have is to say I misspelled LL Kool J and RUN DMC. Stay on topic buddy, because you understood exactly what I spoke, you just don't have any real response other that this ridiculous comment you wrote back. Dispute the facts not the spelling of the artist names dummy. And for the record how did I misspell RUN DMC and I used K instead of C because I wanted to use the Hip Hop spelling of cool but I guess you got me on that right.
esamuels35 1 year ago
@esamuels35
Just come correct.
zapwatt 1 year ago

Hammer is street certified more than some of your favorite rappers smh lmao
yungprophet1 1 year ago
FIRST OFF IM A REAL HIP HOP HEAD!!! AND FUCK SERCH THAT FOOL WAS WACK! HE WASNT THE ILLEST WHITE BOY HES LIKE 5TH ON THE LIST!
LANAZIG 1 year ago
Anyone who says Serch was a decent rapper needs they ass kicked! Secondly this is a business about selling music, and Hammer sold a whole hell of a lot more records than 3rd bass. As he said, Angie B sold more than 300k. Hammer sold 300k in the first hour of his album dropping. Get outta here!
therealmrmoneyshot 1 year ago
First of all, who cares about record sales? And second, Hammer in the first place should have never dissed Run DMC in his video, so Serch and other east MC's was backing up Run DMC the guys who opened the door for Hammer, and lastly Serch of course is a much better rapper than Hammer, clown!!
jwh1999 1 year ago
@jwh1999 When and how did Hammer diss Run -DMC? i missed that. If he did then damn, i understand why people was hatin on him.
zadkiel04 1 year ago
@zadkiel04 Check for Hammer's first video I believe, he had a scene of a fake Run DMC in the video dissing them, and when Run DMC responded on Arsenio Hall, along with many of Run DMC's peers on the east coast backing them up taking shots at Hammer for dissing the Kings, Hammer tried to make it seem like they was all jealous and hatin on him, for his success. Hammer was always a clown!!
jwh1999 1 year ago
@jwh1999 Damn thats messed up. i gotta check that cuz he was never my cup of tea but people just seemed to clown him so bad that i started to feel sorry for him. Nobody ever brought that Run Dmc shit up. So basicly he got full of himself EARLY!!!lol Wow...u learn something everyday.
zadkiel04 1 year ago
MC Hammer and his clownish rap style do not belong in the same conversation with the skills MC Serch and 3rd Bass had. If you think selling more records is the criteria for making you a good rapper, you don't know anything about hip hop. Vanilla Ice sold more records than many of the greatest rappers ever to exist. Remember Eric B & Rakim? Definitely one of the greatest ever, but they're record sales don't compare to what clowns like Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer did.

Fuck M.C. Serch! n a 1 on 1 situation Hammer wud slut-drag dis, Gay Ass Real Nigga Wanna Be!
tre4folife 1 year ago
I'm from born and raise and was around during that time. The bottom line is when Hammer came on the scene and sold millions all the NY rappers were jealous and tried to diss him. Hammer dissed them all back on record like always. Now adays all the rappers who dissed him are doing the same things today that Hammer did back then (TV shows movies commercials etc) so who's really selling out..not Hammer. If anything they should have made music with him instead of trying to diss him

Then, with style and grace, He Turn The Mutha Out
Regardless, You Can't Touch It
Fact; Like Teddy R, Hammer created a wonderful and might i add, a healthy Dance Movement

Praecor 1 year ago

Hammer and Vanilla Ice suck, but i rather have those wack rappers in the game than Waka Flocka, Solja Boy, Gucci Mane, etc...

@toneriggz Exactly, I agree! Waka Flocka and Souljah Boy proves that the people who promote that krap have no idea what real rap is!
jwh1999 1 year ago
RODwun 1 year ago

FightMang36 1 year ago
he might not of sold as much records cuz he kept it real... in the streets and in hiphop he has way more respect than you...sellin millions n makin millions is temporary it fades away hammer is a great example of that. what matters is respect that lasts forever.. and you dont have that from real hiphop fans hammer never did never will...money made you now your broke noone cares about you and you have no respect in hiphop.. you was just a fake commercialized m.c..
FightMang36 1 year ago

Superplatanoman 1 year ago
Hammer don't realize that record sales DOES NOT measure TRUE MC's!!!!!!!! Hammer was wack (not as wack as Vanilla ice) 3rd Bass was real...Notice Hammer didn't talk about Run DMC (them cats were in the Gas Face Video kickin the Hammer doll too) Hammer Knows NOT to mess with RUN DMC, because they are the MOST important Rap act EVER....Fall back Hammer....
