I was 17-18 in 1974,graduated from High School,and this song and the clothes were so upbeat and typical of the good times that existed in the world then....we that were young then took it all for granted,thought it would never end.I didnt buy Abba records then,being more beatles/Stones,but the TOP 40 music was so Damn good.I havent listened to TOP 40 for 20 years,and a music lover,that is very sad to me.
@porcupineinteruptus I graduated from HS in 1974 too. Waterloo was Abba's first hit in the USA. I thought they'd be a 'one-hit wonder', guess I was wrong. Abba was huge in Europe, but they always had a big following in America.
That was the LSD in the water supply. It was a worldwide experiemet in the 1970's . Get out old catalogs from back then. There is metal sunburst painted kitchen cabinents. People actully bought them and put them in there house. Guys were wearing halter top sweater vests. Everbody was on acid.
Best part definitely comes before the second verse when Agnetha and Anni-Frid turns their backs as if to say 'Do you like to see the backside of our costumes?' Since that ABBA is going into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year, their costumes needs to be on display as well. I'll bet you any money that Agnetha wore that costume and boots at least once during the winter of 1974 or '75, while walking in Stockholm and didn't feel anything! (since it was made of velvet and satin)
Their voices are also quite young, immature, lacking polish. Who would have thought then that they would blossom into the great group they became? Great vid, for the historical retrospective.
