This one reminds me of generations of life that begin and end. Some overlap the other. Others stall as emptiness fills the scene waiting for new life to begin. And each generation has it's own story, whether it be the dance of love, or an all out war. Life is beautiful.
I love his late works..... Even though I think they look too much like they were made in the 60s.... He didn't care too much about newer technologies, did he?
Not really my cup of tea, but having just endured STRANGE BREW at the insistence of my girlfriend, I can definitely say that Stan Brakhage is more talented, and more entertaining, than the McKenzie Brothers.
It not the beauty of it your supposed to be looking at particularly anyway. Its the feelings and random thoughts you get when you stop concentratin on what you look at, and the relationships you start to form with an image. Have you seen Ragenet? There is nothing within it to point out his anger, and yet something about it makes you feel Brakhages frustration...if you dont understand that, dont watch Brakhage, theres no point.
many of these by Brakhage are pleasant enough to look at, but much ado but nothing very special. I'm sorry, but i tend to prefer Len Lye + Norman Mclaren stuff from so many years before. No great claims to greatness, and not part of an American avant-garde appeal to intellectuals, but i like em more.

21 frames a second for three minutes... WHAT THE FUCK THAT Is 3780 FRAMES HE PAINTED PER FUCKING MOVIE THING... fuck that id rather do nothing for 24 months
You won't be "great" ever, because he was the FIRST to do this sort of thing and manipulate the format as the medium. There can only be one first-time.
God I'm so bored with these kinds of commentaries. If you don't see the beauty in it, then that's your problem. Some people like, and get it, it's abstract, it makes some people dream. I don't see why you are so insecure that you have to put other people down. Why is a woman or a man beautiful? They just are. Now shut up and go play in your own corner of the sandbox.
reminds me of my childhood. full of colours and shapes.

Are the blocky parts part of the original, or caused by the video encoding?
TakeyMcTaker 3 years ago
That must be encoding! Brakhage worked with film, I think
mythos 3 years ago
