If anyone is interested in mobility for this laptop I found a chinese company that makes Lithium battery packs and can custom make an external battery pack for whatever laptop you want. I was looking at getting a 300Wh power pack for this laptop by looking at how long a 6 cell and 9 cell lasted for my computer i was figuring the 300Wh pack should be able to provide power for about 6 hrs, thats considering my 9cell powered my laptop for about 1.5 hrs...the power pack costs about $350 Cad

the laptop is a quad core oh and to confirm it does not have a sub... the bottom area is a vent not a sub.... the speakers really suck... the quality is ok but the volume... the volume is terrible to watcha movie with a few friends expect to hook it up to external speakers... ive never got express gate working properly... OH and I dont really like the keyboard, its got more flex then i enjoy key response is a bit not as good as I would like... asside from that everything is pretty decent on it

I have this laptop... I like it alot... some notes.... tho this laptop is mostly plastic components ive noticed some wear and tear on some cosmetic things... such as the vent area, some of the plastic broke off... the wi fi button on all of these laptops is jiggly, and the metalic coloured caps at the end of each hinge for the monitor jiggles,had this laptop about a yr or a bit more then that... does play every game very well .. the battery suck hard.. i avg out about 30-45 min of regular use

@pilotman088 Yes up to 4 gigs... the only problem with that is that to change the 1 gig thats between the motherboard and the keyboard is a bitch! just changes the 1 gig ram thats under the laptop to a 2gb stick for a total of 3gbs... thats enough to run heavy apps and lots of programs smoothly...

I take it cause I can't be on a small 15" doing 3D models and have to look closer every time cause the objects are too small... 17" is a beauty but a bit heavy but that's why I bought a special carrying bag for it that reduces the weight by a tremendous amount! These computers are easy to install Snow Leopard retail version! Work better than any Crapbook Pro and very stable and reliable!

These reviews are always way off. Gets key specs wrong, for example. As has been said before that is NOT a subwoofer. Also it doesn't have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M, it has a NVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M with 1GB of DDR5 VRAM.

pps. asus has not been too keen about helping G51j owners with their problem, little help was given when many people called for support. also, if we do decide to try and get it replaced with the G51jx, it will actually be a downgrade in hardware.

dont buy asus gaming laptops until they prove themselves they can make a stable one.

@scothu I have the G51vx-rx05 and it doesn't suffer from the BSOD problems. Of course the specs aren't as good but gaming performance is just as good as it has the same graphics card. It's a lot cheaper ($500 less) and you can upgrade it to your liking (e.g. extra hdd, cpu upgrade etc).

im still baffled by the guy saying there was a sub under the computer lol.. the speakers on this laptop are pretty bad and there would never be a sub on a laptop until we figure out how to triple batter life

ps. I own this and BSOD has been depressing. luckily im not the biggest gamer. but borderlands and COD seem to cause the most BSODs.

also the drivers for that damn mouse cause it too. backpack barely fits the laptop in it.. they used the same backpack with the older models which were smaller years ago. lol.

lol, he's so dumb. all he does is list the specs from this machine. he doesn't know anything else. that ISNT a sub on the bottom... its just a screen over the fan (dumbass). SECOND: NO, I repeat, NO this can not play most games because of the infamous BSOD problem with this model, that is why it is discontinued after a few months after the release. It gets approx 1:15 minutes on battery life, not 2 hours.

Yes, the G51J-A1 it supports RAID (just like the G51VX-A1 did). But, you have to set it up through the BIOS first and then install the OS. It is shipped "stock" with the OS loaded on one drive and the second drive is used for extra storage. Some sites such as XOTIC PC will load the OS as either a RAID 1 or RAID 0 configuration should you desire.

That's not a subwoofer. It's just the air intake vent. Hence the reason for it being hot when he says so at 3:50. This is the 2nd video review I've seen where the reviewer claims it's a subwoofer. Why do they make these assumptions? If it were a subwoofer,they wouldn't place it underneath the GPU.

One of the most powerful 15" gaming laptops available currently. Sager has one with a 280m GPU. Like many ASUS gaming laptops this one *does* run pretty warm so make sure you don't put it on your lap without protection. A laptop cooler is recommended. The Zalman NC2000 works very well with the G51J-A! I hear. Battery life is not that great but thats how it is with serious gaming notebooks. Otherwise this is a very good gaming notebook.
