this uv is a surfactant and needs to be on the inlet side of coil like in vid Also why would you not have a TXV on your system as it is more efficient.

The industry who tests all of this UV stuff has found out that these lights do not kill as much bacteria as the manufact. claims. The Guardian Air light kit system does.I've already had great feedback from my customers. They are pricier but they do what it suppose to do,not maybe .
I had a UV light installed with a new system in 2001. The tech. guy never said anything about replacing the bulb annually....Is this really necessary ?(The original bulb is still working)
The light will still shine true, but the bulb looses its ability to produce the ultra violet (not visible to our eyes). I know it is a pain, but I like these kits more and more.
Love your videos and thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge. I see you have had this UV light for a while, what do you think of it? Have you noticed any difference in air quality, allergies, mold etc? would you recommend one? Thank you for your time.
Why wouldn't you just wire the 24volt to G on the terminal board.. So then instead of the light always being on, it would energize when the i/d fan motor comes on...Just a thought... How much do those lights run would you say????cool video by the way...
Thanks for watching. My blower is set to the ON position all the time because I have the variable speed drive setup to run at 30 hertz when there's no call for heat or cool. So, I need the light to be lite 24/7.
You had mentioned that this particular light operates on a 24v powered ballast, I noticed you took power from your control transformer.
When installing such a device does manufacturer reccommend a dedicated 24v transformer or is the amperage draw low enough on that ballast that max. secondary volt amps won't be affected with this install? Long story short: What is your control trans. rated for and now with the new light install is your total control amp draw affected beyond capacity?
Not all manufacturers recommend using a dedicated transformer for the UV light. I'm still using my control transformer to burn the light and it's still going strong. Knock on wood.
Another informative video Dr Z, thanks. Do you (or anyone else) happen to know how many watts power these lamps use? Just interested to work out the running cost...
you do not smell "ozone" uv-c can not produce ozone by its self it needs a catalyst the uc reacts of the catalyst to produce ozone you more then likely smell the wires deterioating because you did not shield them from the uv
It appears to me that the way you wired it the light will be on all the time even if the fan is not running. Is that the way it should be? or to the G terminal? (only when the fan is on)
Yes. I wired it so that the light is on all the time. Besides, I have a variable speed drive that requires my blower to be on at all times. It ramps up and down depending on if I have a call for cool or heat.

Can I use UV light in my bedroom? I need help seeing that black hole of a snatch when I go down on your mom at night time. It's so huge i can't seem to find the G spot.
I have installed many Light Sticks. You need to run its own transformer. They have shut down a many furnaces. Even had them burn-out alot of transformers. And yep they have to be wired hot all the time. Coming on with fan, they dont last long at all.
Love thouse UV kits! Nice install btw, and yeah the porcelin base on thsoe lights are very weak, I think we've all cracked one the first time lol...I had a video idea for ya aimed toward the new commers to this trade. I think you should make a video of the operation of thermal overload in a compressor, a lot of people could mistake the open windings when ohming out the compressor as a bad compressor when a lot of that times you need to hit the compressor with a 2x4 and hammer to reset comp T.O/L
DrZarkloff I enjoy your tutorials,I'm a HVACR student born and raised in Gainesville.I'am currently living in Ormond Beach and you make more since than my instructor! Please do some more videos preferably troubleshooting, evacuation, charging, pressure readings, leaks, overheated compressors, retrofitting techniques. Thanks!
first off I love your channel, and I have a few questions about your UV lamp. are you worried that the location of the UV lamp will eat away your condensate drain pan? also would the life of the lamp be increased if you wire the ballast to an extra NO contact on the control relay so the lamp comes on with the blower, or is the ballast not designed to be cycled?
Thanks for the compliment. I guess that you could set up the UV light so that the power to the ballast would cycle with a call for blower. Although, I don't know if that would help to increase the life of the lamp. Also, I'll just replace the condensate pan if the UV light deteriorates the plastic. I'm an A/C tech, so no big deal here.
Thanks. Please save your parents some money and check out my video about condensate drains and the video about coil cleaning. Those are as easy as they look.
great strategy .. thanks for posting .. =)

don't ever look at the uv light when light is energized...lol. you will end up in the emergency room with your eyes shut and swollen.

Nice job! Thought: maybe a bead of silicone caulk between the porcelain and metal would act as a shock absorber and gasket.

Silicone might work in a pinch.

prolodyne 2 years ago
They vary from about 25 to 60 watts. You need to do some shopping around to get the one you want.
DrZarkloff 2 years ago
So that's no more expensive than running a regular filament lamp - thanks.
