im ashamed. idc what tires you have on it. i have street tires with 18s and ive made it up worse. try pulling another jeep out while having to go up a hill like that. but slick mudd under the snow instead.
@pgpatriot I was think that may be the case with the studed tires. Chains are the best for that type of weather anyways. I thought it sounded like a diesel. Would think it does good on MPG, and or LPG.lol Best, yl
@pgpatriot That is great MPG to me. I wish that I could get one like that... The best in the US is like 29 MPG using gas, No diesels for them right now ? Nice Little Jeep You have take care..yl
Not bad for the wrong type of tires in thick wet snow & ice. Studed tires all around would have helped alot if you can get them there ? What motor does this one have in it ?? Thank's, yl
@ylism Nope... they are illegal in my country. Unfortunately, I had summer tires on the car so there where far too much lateral movement and I was afraid it could slide off the road. It is 2.0 VW diesel engine - 140 bhp and 320 Nm torque. I got chains later on in order to avoid this kind of situation in the future ... and replaced tires with M+S :)
honestly i have a ranger 07 2wd and a 99 dodge ram 2500 4x4.. the ranger with chains was about the same thing that my 4x4 dodge...thatsaying 4x4 with chains is even better.. my point if snow chains make a halleuyah of difference
My Patriot ith FDII does excellent in the Alaskan snow, but our now is very dry, your Montenegro snow looks wetter, which of course provides les traction.
It is a shame to use summer tire in a snowy condition like this one. Using excellent winter tire would have provided easy off-road travel because winter tires provides grip, adherence and thus allow the vehicle to steer his way in the desired direction. So as a conclusion, please, dont drive with summer tire in snow and use chain if so possible. The only advantage using freedom 11 is that the vehicle is higher by 3 centimeter and consequently ther is less friction under deep snow.
I noticed there are not any tow hooks on the front which would probably mean they are using Freedom Drive 1, I bet if they had Freedom Drive 2 they would not have had as much trouble. With Freedom Drive 2 you have ABS slip lock on the wheels plus extra ground clearance.
patriots are BABY jeeps, like cmon :D lol my friends patriot 2,0 - 2007 cant DO even close to my 4,0 cherokee '97 they dont make them as they used to
Oh man, the Cherokee (and the pickup version, the Comanche) were unstoppable. At work we switched our patrol cars from a very basic TWO-WHEEL-DRIVE Cherokee to a FOUR-WHEEL-DRIVE Chevy Blazer -- Big mistake! The Cherokee NEVER had a problem (I abused it relentlessly), while the Blazer was CONSTANTLY getting into trouble. IN FOUR-WHEEL-DRIVE! With electronic traction and braking "help!" What a POS. :D
Jeep Patriot is mostly FRONT WHEEL DRIVE car. Rear wheels are engaged either by AWD mechanism, or when 4WD is locked. Which means that front wheels are always engaged. What you saw actually means that front wheel opposite to camera was spinning (skidding, slipping).
ESP was full off, and 4WD was locked. Issue where the tires. Stock Continental tires are excellent on road, but as this video shows they are quite lousy in snow (and off road as well).
The Jeep patriot and Jeep compass has a hard time following another 4x4's tracks. They are an embarrassment to the Jeep name.

Looks pretty bad for a 4x4. My 84 s15 Chevy Blazer used to drive through deeper snow much more easily than this.

I don't think this SUV is bad off-road at all. It's priced very well and get's great gas mileage. It's not a Wrangler on purpose, people.

@ylism It is good on MPG, best I recorded was 40 MPG US (or 48 MPG UK), but I read that I can do better.

Back it down the hill and get a running start and some speed.
Yeah, those tires don't look so good either.
Not Trail Rated either. Those tend to do better I have noticed.

those tires look pretty useless - the standard tire on the Pat here in the US are Goodyear (GSA?) - pretty good all around tread.

@TPS5150 Agreed, that's why I changed them to Yokohama G051... Much, much, much better traction.

Indeed, this Patriot is Freedom Drive 1. Unfortunately, there is no FDII available for diesel engines....
BTW: New A/T tires fitted, had no time to test it properly, but from what I found is that its off-road capabilities increased significantly.

just needs winter tires goes for any vehicle, ive been stuck in the snow with my avalanche without winters, nothing to do with ride height.
