  • some great inforamtion here thanks

  • EPCOT stands for Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow but for me its, Every- Person- Comes- Out- Tired, haha its so true!

  • Thumbs up if you still watch this at 2012

  • Excellent post I must say..

  • When ever I am at Disney World I Basically Live at Epcot Center

  • Awesome world

  • It's astounding that it only cost 800 million 2 build all this. Even in 1980 money. Look at the Trillion dollar stimulus we just spent. What did that build? I don't think we could build an Epcot 2day. Probably why they didn't reconstruct the trade centers, & why NASA's best days are behind it unless we turn things around. It's like the 80s we peaked and it looked like there was nothing we couldn't accomplish. Then, shortly after, something in our country went sour.

  • Everyone had a perm in 1982. They could've saved a lot of money by simply showing the hair of today! It's futuristic!

  • I lived in florida all my life and i've been to disney world SO many times...but i always love coming back :)

  • Dream finder

  • The music at 1:08 is great. The music at 1:25 is superlative.

  • it would have been good if it went to Walt's plans BEFORE he died. NOTHING LIKE WHAT HE WANTED! above ground? no people movers? no homes, no appts, no REAL experimental city, just a cheap gimmick to make money off of poor Disneys name. Disney presents: Tomorrowand 2! Tomorrowlands revenge!

  • @thejugglerrr i so agree walt wanted families to have fun with each other,he wasnt in it for the money.but now that he has died, disney has gone completely corporate, now it is greedy and corrupt.we need walt back!

  • @josejalepeno63 I agree ALL the way.. :')

  • @thejugglerrr You're right. The entire property in Orlando was for the EPCOT project, but he died Before it got underway. His brother did a remarkable job, but, not a lot of people know, that it was all supposed to be EPCOT an Experimental Prototype COMMUNITY of Tomorrow.

  • @TubeScrewed Amen,not a lot of people know this.

  • @TubeScrewed Walt Disney Productions didn't want to get into running a municipal government, so they dramatically altered the plans for what would become EPCOT. There is this really good book about the genesis of Walt Disney World, I think it's called 'Realityland'.

  • @thejugglerrr You have a serious problem.

  • 1:00 OMG

  • Truly a magical place. Even though it's not what he wanted exactly, Walt would approve.

  • Epoct is for the people who have the spirt of advanture and creativey.

  • EPCOT = Every Paycheck Comes On Thursday....... lol

  • I was first there in Dec 1982. When did they drop the "Center"?

  • @Nathan1097: after 1993. After that came the brief renames of "Epcot '94" and "Epcot '95" before it was given the current name of Epcot.

  • EPCOT is my secound home :)

  • @hannahhazlehurst mine too I know how to get around in epcot so well! it makes me happy to be there

  • intro reminds me of tron

  • @TheChicagoguy That's because Tron was made in 1982, the same year EPCOT CENTER opened! They need to bring a replica version of Disneyland's ElecTRONica over to Epcot, it clearly belongs there!

  • @SpookyAbductee

EPCOT could probably fit a TRON Activity ...... If The Imagineers before the ones of today would have designed EPCOT more of the way Walt Disney Himself wanted it, and that is ..... EPCOT The City .

Although EPCOT is born messed up, at least what they did build EPCOT to be is enjoyed by the millions ... like me. History also teaches me that It's gonna be this EPCOT, Or no EPCOT at all.

I`ll take this EPCOT we have today over nothing anyday of the year.

    - Dwight

  • @djthereplay Maybe one day they will use his original plans for something greater than what is EPCOT today, at least Disney left us with his amazing vision in detail.

But I do more than agree, I will definitely take this EPCOT over nothing any day. It's by far the best Disney park in my opinion because of the World Showcase. I do however wish they would bring back some of the older rides. I don't understand why Dreamfinder has gone MIA!

  • @SpookyAbductee

One word ........ TAMPERING !!!! They think that we fans are tired of Dreamfinder, in their messed up opinion, and I guess that we need to send them a message.

I bet that if we stop riding Journey into Imagination the way it is now and let them know that you will stop riding Journey Into Imagination until they bring the Original Dreamfinder Version back, then they will get the message.

    - Dwight

  • I moved so far away I haven't been to Epcot in so long.. I miss it!

  • I LOVE EPCOT!

  • miss the 1980s epcot

  • I love Epcot. I don't see how it could be deemed cheesy either. If you're judging from this video then yes...it's outdated. Had you been there at all since the filming of that promo you'd realize that while yes it is merely just a theme park and not quite what Walt envisioned. It still stands as a testament to mans pursuit of technology in all facets of life. And World Showcase is the closest some people will ever come to traveling the world. Epcot is as brilliant and advanced as it ever was! :)

  • 10 years old I was. Fantastic! Still do by its ways... Thanx!
  • People who don't appreciate EPCOT aren't human. Love it more than anything in the world.

  • @BoItonWanderers That would be my brain dead sister for you, she said it's stupid. However my boyfriend loves it and next year I'm going there for the first time ever, can't wait, looks amazing!!

  • exelente video, the best parck

  • The best disney's park

    Jacky from france

  • Happy Birthday, EPCOT!

  • I agree-its cheesy and the future is nothing like what Epcot suggests, but thats aprt of its charm.

Also, i worked there for a year so ill always love it

  • I don't care what anybody says ...I loved epcot !!

  • I Have This On Video :-) And A Dvd Of How It Is Now. :-) Epcot Is Amazing !

  • @:27 I love the first third of ERDT. Too bad they changed it.

  • great video

  • This is like, nine kinds of amazing! Thank you so much for uploading!!

  • Hey, the narrator sounds like Vic Perrin, who was The Control Voice on TV's "The Outer Limits". I like this EPCOT video, up until 2:40, when it seems like somebody added a cheap tag onto the end of it.

  • Thank God I live in Florida

  • I just found out for my summer alumni Program I'm working EPCOT Towers and Glow...at first i wasn't excited because EPCOT wasn't my favorite park and I hated Illumniations...but now I'm starting to get interested because it'll help me get to explore and appreciate EPCOT just a little bit more!

  • The best Disneyworld park. Magic Kingdom is just a Disneyland that takes longer to walk through, and HOllywood & Animal Kingdom are good, but they don't have the same depth.

  • DHS was never designed to be a 'full day' theme park, and Animal Kingdom shouldn't have left the Imagineering drawing boards.

  • Wasn't it designed to not be a full-day park at first? The plan was to fill it up as the public demanded.

  • Agree, AK was the biggest waste of a day I have ever spent. and Everest was a yawn and a half. Thunder Mnt beats it hands down.

DHS (or MGM as the fans still call it) is a great park. true it is not a full day of rides, but it can be a full day of interesting shows.

  • Easily the best park. Magic Kingdom is a slapped together Disneyland. Hollywood studios is as the person below stated "not a full day park" and Animal Kingdom i think is great but it is sad to hear how great it could've been if that cheapass Eisner actually tried to allow the imagineers to do what they love

  • @mrbill191715 Outstanding, thanks!

  • I was never overly fond of EPCOT Center, as I found it enormous, banal and a tad gaudy in comparison to the Magic Kingdom. If WestCOT were actually built as Disneyland Resort's second gate, I think I would thoroughly enjoy that park.

  • It doesn't make any sense to say you would have enjoyed WestCOT if you don't like EPCOT. They would have had the same vibe.

  • As it would have been much smaller than EPOCT, WestCOt would have had a more engagine blend of ideas. The concept of a 'World Cruise' ride is more appealing to me than schlepping around an enormous lake in order to visit various pavilions.

I do like the landscaping of EPCOT, though.

  • been there 4x , still doesnt get old

  • i love all these 70's and 80's promos. so retro its awesome!

reminds me of elementary school and all those science/educational videos we had to watch

  • I was just there last week. Even though I go to all the parks every year it never gets tiring

  • super retro!!

  • epcot stands for experimental prototype community of tommorow

  • for cast members it stands for Every Paycheck Comes On Thursday. lol. btw, im not a cast member.

  • XD thats a good one

  • EPCOT is my favorite park. It's like a theme park catered to nerds like me!

  • Hey, it's my favorite too!

  • Same here. Can't wait to see all the changes (including the wand-free SE) next week. :D

  • i like it too!!! because it makes aducation fun

  • I LOVE EPCOT!!!!

  • That's spaceship Earth, and yes it is a ride. It tells about the history of human Communications. It's had a history of updates over the years, some have been good and some not so good.

  • oh ok, how did i get a negative comment on my last one, i loved epcot. i got to talk to german (in german!!) and i got to get sum jappanase candy and stuff. then i ate german food and i had a good time. i was just tired from the concert and signing the day before (i had to wait 16 hours)

  • Comment removed

  • Sooo 80s! I've been to Epcot three times in my life: in 1986, in 1998, and then again last month. Love it there!

  • ANOTHER EPCOT!!! look i'm sorry i'm late at replying to this but wtf are u talkin about..... i believe there is a geodesic sphere somewhere in Vegas but it's in no way another EPCOT

  • i was there in 1988 or 1989 and i remember the Michael Jackson movie, the night procession of bright carriages, the white fat americans (there wasn´t immigrants at that time),hehe... Amazing, the best year to visit Epcot, a golden time for art and dreams

  • I really like the opening music with the old Epcot logo-it's so wonderfully old-school futuristic! Along with the behind-the-scenes footage, this video brings back memories of how Epcot used to be like back in the old days. Thank you for sharing this.

  • i have a 25th anniversary shirt that says "the future begain october 1982" almost like the intro to the vid

  • That music is scrumtralescent!

  • Some of the music in this viedo kind of remind me of Tron and also if Walt Disney had seen Epcot to day he would be proud and be amazed.

  • yeah, even though it wasn't what he planned epcot to be he would still probably love it. especially world showcase

  • cool! sound like a good vacation spot.

  • diney epcot is sexy

  • lol

    yes...yes it is

  • oh god yes! 80s epcot rules! eisner killed everything awesome about disney...

  • Spaceship Earth looks so much better, now that the gaudy exterior 'attachment' from 1999 has been removed.

  • not the way disney really planned it... A) its much to small... its not a city , people dont live ther and its a theme park

  • went there July '89 and then several times after that....still an amazing place

  • I went to epcot in November of 07

  • i went to epcot in october in 07 and i loved it !!! go ecpot and florida

  • i don't know why i don't love epcot maybe 'cause it was my last park and i was really tired, but when i was in perú i thought it would be my favorite

  • I LOVE EPCOT!!!!

  • I am sorry, SpainGreatestEmpire ! That is the wrong answer. Walt Disney was born in Chicago, Illinois.

  • Yeah! I'm 11 and I know that! Learn your Disney, SpainGreatestEmpire!

  • you are so wrong, he was American.

    and spain sucks!

everyone knows that Africa begins just down below the Pyrenees

  • um... Walt Disney is the son of Elias Disney....who is canadian

his mother was an american citizen...and walt was born chicago.....NOT spain...sorry

  • nothing will ever be better that disney....SUCKER!

  • Quite right! Walt himself was the true innovator!

  • Man this is an amazing view of seeing epcots futuristic ideas and things it can offer. I've been here 4 times and i love the park. But this video puta the whole thing into perspective. This theme park rules people. You really showed the futuristic side of the theme park. The way the annomatronics work is amazing and you have captured this in a very creative way.

    Well done.

  • I'm going to work here in September :o) great video check mine out if you have time :D

  • Love those graphics!!

  • this is great....i especially love the music. im planning to work at Epcot when i move to Florida! its my favorite Disney park

  • wow..i remember seeing the epcot ball being built and everyone in the transbus being in a death slience and shock...amazing i was 15 years old...wow

  • man...i love these retro 80's promos. Make it look so futuristic

  • Anyone know who the composer is for the music?

  • It seemed that Disney thought of EPCOT as a way to compete with the World's Fairs that were so popular during his time. The problem was, it didn't change with the times. The only time I went was in the early '90s, and even then, it seemed outdated.

  • and they thuoght the 21st century would l9ook like this boy were they wrong

  • I don't know but an Experimental Prototype City Of Tomorrow sounds scary to me. I mean a real city owned by a a major corporation scares me.

  • Awesome video! I have a couple from epcot and Hoop Dee Doo if you're interested! Not quite as good as yours, though! :o)

  • How sad it was that Walt died before he really had a part on the design. EPCOT was not supposed to be a tourist attraction (aka amusement park). It was suppose to be an entire city (the size of Boston) with full time residents that was to be a showcase to American industry using the latest advances in technology. Disney was way ahead of his time. It was to become the first "green" city totally encapsulated to provide consisiant environmental control.

  • hell yeh

  • It WAS going to have a Magic Kingdom style park though. And there would be high speed monorails taking people from the city (which tourists could explore,) to the theme park.

  • The only green city now is a Chinese government project to create a "GREEN CITY in an island off the coast of Shanghai. I hope they will fulfill the real dreams of Walt Disnei. Not that capitalistic approach by the Epcot pepole,

  • ...and Disney's original idea wasn't capitalistic?

  • Ahhhh. Epcot Center. How the 80's was so optimistic and naive. Now what then promised as the way of the future came to nothing. All what was offered by the center of the World's Fair is nothing but war, globalization and poverty. Thank you Anglo thank you.

  • how was the 80's a decade, naive? All this war, globalization and poverty began well before the 80's man.

  • You are right my brotha. But what I am pointing is that Epcot was created in the 80's in an attempt to create vision of a good future and the promises that improvement will occur. But we got nothing

  • Jimminy.... scary scenery or not, i still love it. It reminds me more of Flight of the Navigator, hehe.

    Good Job!

  • When Walt originally announced his idea of Epcot as a city to the public, he first said "city of tomorrow" but then when he explained what the name stood for two minutes later he said "community of tomorrow." That was meant to be the name long before it ended up just being a theme park.

  • yeh it wuz spost to be a city to live in and shit.

  • It was community, but Disney did use the word City, sometimes. So you both are right.

  • Canadaaaaa! Oh Canadaaaaaaa. You make great beer have great mountains and great ginger ale ....

  • but canada doesnt have vernors, now thats good ginger ale.

  • Lately, thanks to EPCOT's annual FL resident pass, me and my friends enjoy getting completely blitzed at the Germany pavilion on any given weekend night and just stumble around the park aimlessly yelling "Oh, Canada!" obnoxiously loud.

  • i thaught epcot was really crap apart from that soarin ride...that was pretty sweet

  • : O epcots my fav park! to each his own tho

  • Bring back the old EPCOT Center logos!!!

  • Yay, Experimental Prototype Civilization Of Tomorrow :)

  • Not to be picky, but the "C" stands for community. ;) Sorry, I'm a bit of a Disney nut.

  • actually, if u say ur a disney nut, u would know that walt himself designed epcot to be a functional "city" a place where people could live and work.. that idea was the "city" of tomorrow in his title, but was changed to "community" when it was decided that the park was to be a park and not a city. Originally yes.. Experimental Prototype City of Tomorrow.

  • I wasn't saying that to upset anyone, but I was saying what the name is, not what it was meant to be.

  • If you watch the original EPCOT video, Walt uses "City" and "Community." It seems like they were interchangeable. =)

  • Ahh, nothing beats some good ol' Retrocot footage, thanks for posting this. The 21st Century Begins October 1st 1982!

  • The future is so damn cool.

  • Awesome! Thanks for posting

  • Flippin' awesome. How can I DL this?

  • So glad to see this here. Epcot is my favorite Disney Park. Too bad Disney never got to have his real vision for Epcot come to life. Perhaps some day...

  • Flyinpianoman, his dream kinda actually came true. It's called Celebration, Florida. Celebration was initally built for Walt Disney Employees and their families so they would not have far to travel to work and home.

Eventually Disney opened up Celebration to the general public. so now you have your mix living there.

Me and my husband are huge disney fans and wanted to move there. A tad expensive though!!

Evenutally the Disney Corporation opened it up to the public

  • Hi.. Im a Celebratan...(I live in celebration) come down... it isnt EPCOT but it sure is pretty damn close..

  • Celebration is not supposed to be like the EPCOT that you know of now. Celebration is what Walt had in mind for EPCOT.

  • After his death, changes were made and EPCOT originally was supposed to be two seperate parks. Future world, then World Showcase. The Disney team at the time brainedstormed and made it one whole park.

What you see in Celebration is what Epcot would be if Walt was around to see it.

BTW, Know any cheap rental homes in Celebration!?!? LOL. We're moving down and looking lol.

  • I hear Celebration is VERY choosy about who they let in and isn't very diverse.

  • I took a few classes at Stetson in Celebration. It's a nice looking town with some good restaurants. However all of us students and the teachers agreed it was strange how you would never see the residents outside their homes.

  • you know? It feels like one of those creepy towns you see in horror films

  • Many people in the class i took said the scenery reminded them of the film Pleasantville.

  • You're kidding, right? I live there. Anyone who wants to live in Celebration (and can afford to) CAN live in Celebration.

  • This is fantastic. Where did you find this? Epcot is my favorite theme park; I'm lucky I get to be there every day!

  • Cool E.P.C.O.T. Center video!

  • wow. technology!
