I agree with Sebbo. James Reyne has a lot more talent than John Farnham, but unlike Farnham James actually writes his own music which means he doesnt have to scrounge off old fans by continually having "LAST STANDS" and "FAREWELL" tours. James Reyne I agree is "on par" with the best of the best. How dare people say he cant sing? A TRUE AUSSIE (not a NZender) singing AUSSIE ROCK. Give the guy a chance. He's a legend in his own right and still CHOOSES to live in Australia, on the Morno Peninsula.

We live in a plastic age of over-engineered "pop"music that is repetitive and safe. James Reyne still delivers a raw sound, unfiltered and true to himself.

As to this particular recording, a warts and all sound is not for everyone. If you want polished and smooth go elsewhere. Give me real music every time.

James Reyne is enduring and I have been of that opinion since watching them live at the goulburn jerkers in 1980- and THIS is just a shit clip BUT IT IS VERY LIVE AND UNDER RECORDED!- i just saw him live at a dinner/band nite in newcastle- in nov 2010- he has not lost any of his james reyne-ness, this clip did not do his band or him justice!!!he is better live with a faster band, he had 2 with him and he was amazing!!!!!

If it sounds good with a full band, as well as stripped down to an acoustic version, and it still hits you in the guts, then you know you've written a classic. Too many people rely on studio gimmickery and fashions to prop up poorly written songs instead of knuckling down and writing something that stands out from the rest. Go James!

James Reyne cops a lot of shit from the public who misguidedly assume that he cannot sing. How wrong they are ! This guy is an absolute tenor. He uses a peculiar blend of vocal chord strain. James Reyne (realistically speaking) is on par with the likes of John Lennon, Elvis, Bon Scott, Leonard Cohen and many others for making distinctively different music to influence a generation of musicians. More respect should go out to James Reyne than he currently receives from an undeserving public !!

@sebbbo77 I think now days,people are getting use to hearing so called "performers" on cd`s and all the rest of their new media,that they forget what real talent sounds like! The australian music scene was once full of people trying to be different,with their own style...and we were good at it!! Nowdays,there is no one with enough balls or vaginas to come up with something different.I grew up in that era of the real aussie musicians and I fail to see ANYTHING that has come close recently.

Oi Bourksey, Just cause the sound quality isn't as good doesn't mean it's a good performance. I saw reyne at lizotte's on the central coast and the raw energy he produced in that performance; i thought was astounding, Being a musician myself. I'm all for this style, Thumbs up. Oh and also the man to his right deserves more credit, he's a genius!
