@Riffer16 BECAUSE CS tried to lift off of the Pumpkins style at the time. CS sucked and their music had no magic. The Pumpkins were doing it years before them but they had a magical sound others just didn't have. Listen to this song.
@65neu I did. And I completely agree with you that Smashing Pumpkins is much better than CS. Now I have a better understanding of this field. Thank you. :)
i wish i was old enough to appreciate this when it was around, in 1992 i was 5, i heard this when i was 14, along with Nirvana, SP saved me from a life of Euro dance and hollow pop. Goes to show that great music transcends generations and hits people with the force of a charging "Rhinoceros".
90s was the last generation of good music in this generation most music sux ballsacks and most rock singers are going soft which sux even more *need hate curls up in ball and inches away*
Whenever I listen to this song, not only does it take me back, but it also gives me the creeps. If you're gonna post a song( Especially one this important in the Pumpkins era..............play the whole damn thing! Leaving out the ending takes away everything from this Masterpiece.
I miss this time period of music. I think I was 19 when this song came out, great time to be young. MTV played music, economy wasn't perfect but allowed many to make cost of living, young prez. in the white house, people weren't PC when it came to smoking, no terror warnings, no Justin Beiber or Disney bands, the first Lollapalooza, no internet, no cellphones, & I was the original Teen Spirit generation & we slacked & cruised through life :)
Billy was/is an amazing artist and I have always considered him to be the Brian Wilson of the 90's but for some reason he alone cannot recreate the magic that was Iha, Wretzky, Chamberlin and himself, they definitely need to be the original lineup in order to recreate the magic that was before, in my opinion.
I miss the '90s everything was so progressive, the '90s would be disappointed with 2011, I mean wasn't the back to the future part two supposed to take place in like 2015 we are not even close to a world like that, no hover boards or anything!!!!!!!
@MrNattania I couldn't agree more that the 90s would be disappointed with 2011. For some reason this music period never translated down into current times, it's as if we went backwards. Music has always gone forward & used music from the past as a cornerstone, how we went from this to Justin Beiber & Lady GaGa is beyond me.
@Anglynn74 I know its a bit depressing and with the whole new auto-tune phase you dont even need to know how to sing to be a professional singer, its ridiculous!
dont worry maybe in 10 years time things will change. theres a lot of good underground indie and dance about now. the jungle scene in britain and europe is amazing right now too
@dreapster that's why you listen to indie rock. There's alot of great undiscovered talent out there that the record companies havnt dipped there dirty little fingers in that I highly recommend searching for. I can list a few if you send me a message. And this message is for anyone who wants to know of any good indie bands.
first time i heard this song was when i stole the Singles soundtrack from my local GOODWILL(sorry cashier dude!) I was really into grunge and alternative crap and stuff and saw that the Pumpkins were on it and i took it when i got home i listened to it and just stared at the ceiling thinking how awesome Billy Corgan's lyrics are
I'm not saying music in the past was all good and all current music is all bad, but I sincerely miss music like this being commonplace. It's kinda rare to see anything even loosely "rock" in the mainstream.
@dkitty8124 I completely agree with you. It broke my heart when they broke up. There was something about that combination of musicians that really struck a chord with me as a fan.
i tripd out on acid with this kid who lookd just like billy corgn. this was on halloween and he started freeking out and took off all his clothes and then went outside and started smashing neibors shit and yelling at everyone i calld 911 cuz i was freeking out about it aminute later the swat team came around the corner and tackled him and took him away face down on a stretcher. that was the last time i saw him. that was more than 10 years ago now, sigh
I discovered the pumpkins in the 90s around the same time I discovered another great band called the Descendents. I miss the 90s too and my brother pokes fun at me about it ALL the time.
Singles soundtrack.....EPIC.....the movie is one of my favorites of all time....love and miss the 90's....Ive got a delorean, need a flux capicitor, going back to the 90's.....
such an original sound soft to loud now ik nirvana did this but smashing pumpkins songs put u in like a trance i like lose all my stress and just relax when there on its amazing i dont think there will ever be another band that will have the same effect like the pumpkins man
i know its obvious. but todays music isn't even worth comparing to music from any generation before it :\ everythigns completely lost it. you don't even need talent to make thousands of bucks a week.. its all about being attractive and appealing to young girls, writing slightly catchy 3 chord songs and stealing shit from other bands who actually deserve the credit..
There are plenty of bands with talent around still. You are just looking (Or listening) in the wrong areas. Most of Mainstream does suck though. It is all commercialized.
im 14 my era sux so much all it is about is wat you have and iphone's i wish it was jus about the music and being happy with out all this newer bullshit.
@ballingitupyo oh you are SO right -before ATM's were EVERYWHERE beepers were for dealers and doctors "CAR phones" and the PC's were for rich kids and the Compact Disk was unheard of - when Pirates still were someone with a bird and a peg leg - boot leg tapes-blackberries grew on bushes ahh and most of all SEASONS there were four of them - lightning bugs and a 7 year old could walk to school - where TSP is from they even got out of school for an hour for lunch! hot dog stand or 7 up store.
@ballingitupyo You poor dear. It's alright, it's all in how you use that iPhone, man. Bring it to school and blast that Smashing Pumpkins and if anyone looks at you funny, you say, "Hey, did you guys see that new app that's out? It's called art! Listen."
@ballingitupyo You're 14, but you're smarter than most people that I know my age. hahaha All they care about is expensive crap that they don't need and being on top of the newest trends.
@ballingitupyo don't be passive and accept it! go out and explore more pumpkins.Nirvana,Jimi Hendrix,Beck, the beatles...don't sit around and say it sux, there is a wonderful world of music give it a try
GATMOG was awesome! This song is awesome! The Smashing Pumpkins (Old and New) are awesome! Billy Corgan is, well, I think you know the answer to this one.
I love how every single Smashing Pumpkins song has a comment about the reminiscence of the 90s music. Clearly someone needs to bring it back. I wish I had the musical talent to do so...
ah old Pumpkins is great stuff. Billy wrote well, James was a bad ass guitarist, D'Arcy was so beautiful and her bass accented the songs so well, and Jimmy before the bad drug addiction was perfect on drums. How I wish they could bury the hatchet and get back together.
the diversity of this band still blows me away even though ive been listening to them since i was a kid. having a catalogue of great songs that vary so much and still be good is hard to find. to bad billy is terrible now :(
darcy needs to brake her crack pipe, james and billy need to have surprise butt secks and jimmy needs to go pound in the skullz of the new fake pumpkins.
This song is timeless although it's always remember my high school years, good times, when we had good musics and good bands....

the only good music today is new-wave reggae. tribal seeds, SOJA, etc.
THIS, however, sends chills right down my spine. Amazing...I want to learn to play this.

@dkitty8124 I completely agree with you. It broke my heart when they broke up. There was something about that combination of musicians that really struck a chord with me as a fan.

This is a stake in the heart of pop culture! Some kid who doesn't remember the 90's will hear the pumpkins and lead his generation out of this fug.

I discovered the pumpkins in the 90s around the same time I discovered another great band called the Descendents. I miss the 90s too and my brother pokes fun at me about it ALL the time.

Linearvolley 11 months ago
i know its obvious. but todays music isn't even worth comparing to music from any generation before it :\ everythigns completely lost it. you don't even need talent to make thousands of bucks a week.. its all about being attractive and appealing to young girls, writing slightly catchy 3 chord songs and stealing shit from other bands who actually deserve the credit..
sk8rboi456 1 year ago 3
@sk8rboi456
There are plenty of bands with talent around still. You are just looking (Or listening) in the wrong areas. Most of Mainstream does suck though. It is all commercialized.

Listen."

I love how every single Smashing Pumpkins song has a comment about the reminiscence of the 90s music. Clearly someone needs to bring it back. I wish I had the musical talent to do so...
theJ4ZZ 1 year ago 3
ah old Pumpkins is great stuff. Billy wrote well, James was a bad ass guitarist, D'Arcy was so beautiful and her bass accented the songs so well, and Jimmy before the bad drug addiction was perfect on drums. How I wish they could bury the hatchet and get back together.
mayo211 1 year ago 3
the diversity of this band still blows me away even though ive been listening to them since i was a kid. having a catalogue of great songs that vary so much and still be good is hard to find. to bad billy is terrible now :(
