  • evreii si tiganii sunt singurii care pot canta dinsuflet melodiile altor popoare...

  • Am facut urticarie. Ca atunci cand au cantat tiganii la ProTV imnul Romaniei.

  • ce e asta????????furt

  • Dulce Romania maica!!! Doina, probably from the Latin word "dolore" (pain) sung in Yiddish by Leo Fuld an jewish famous dutch singer from old Rotterdam. Very beautiful rendition, but it lacking somehow that ' deep romanian melancholic feeling' , if sung in Romanian and by a Romanian singer... still a very fine singing and orchestra.

  • @sexoja23 there were, before ww2.

  • President Carter also a singer of Romanian Song with Jewish text. Veis ce mir.

  • Hei, don't steal, i bet you don't have that nerve! Doina is your Europe ancestors song, your spine. Hope your genes remember this, remember Dacia

  • Hei, DOINA is a pure romanian word! Don't play with it!

  • I don´t know why but romanian floclore have something of jewish in my opinion.I been there two times anyone can tell if there are many decedent of jews in romania?

  • Romanian or not, moldavian or not, jewish or not jewish. 100% or less, or maybe more...

    Dont be tightwad!

Great song, great performance, great talant! Thanks to Leo Fuld!

P.S. Who do not agree with me, do not reply. Go and make somethig better than this Leo Fuld`s song. Make this world better!

  • Er zingt oyf mamloshen; dos iz a yiddishe liedele mit romanishe musik. Der frege, "iz dos yiddishe oyder romanishe?" iz narrish. S'iz bayde!

  • romanian folk not gipsy's song

  • Hey....dont fight.......ITS ROMANIAN 100%....My name is Doina......and im proud of thise!!!

  • @Doina888 No it isn't, it is yiddish. Just listen to the text and you will realise.

  • @1stAma Hey! You realy don't understand what is all about! This song’s text is a invention that has nothing in common with Doina-ancient Romanian folk songs, with Doina-common Romanian female forename or with this song’s music, which is pure Romanian folk music. I supose Leo didn’t know what he sang. Or he did?

  • @romarcela62 Why do you bring arguments that have nothing to do with my argument?

  • Leuk is het woord niet, dit is prachtig, blijft bij en dat is uniek!

  • LEO evident a fost un noncomformist ......cred ca istoria din spatele ac. melodii e mult mai profunda. ..intrebarea este de ce canta el,[evreu nascut in Olanda refugiat in USA1939] perioada 1940-1950 in limba germana?!

    Romanisipunctum

    this is sooo damnn unnteressing....

its a beautyfull song and if michael hackson would sing a song on a afghan tradiotanal song andd if it would be still good...i would like it...stopp unnecassasiry nationalism in art ... love peace unity!

  • @aaziesch

Correcting plagiarism and informing on the real facts about the Romanian doina is hardly "unnecessary nationalism"; it's facts!

And if you think you can build "love, peace, and unuity" on the basis of lies and intellectual theft you are delusional my friend.

You don't offer "love, peace, and unity" to the pick-pocket thief who stole your wallet and pretends it's his; you offer him a nice cell and take your wallet and money back.

    Opzwepend rithme!!!

  • This is a Romanian folk song. I don't understand the words, but the music is an ancient Romanian folk music called Doina, older than most of you can imagine. Just search and listen on internet Doina songs and you will understnad.

  • @irirux TRANSLATION Doina, how you rinkle in my ears, Doina, I have not lost the need for you Doina, the Tzigan song of joy, Doina Doina, eternally young and eternally new Over fields, over grass run sheep, run rabbits, Doina A little bird has flown and kissed two beautiful eyes, Doina Black eyes like two little apples, I kiss my beloved little head, Doina Silk lips with curls Red cheeks like cherries, Doina
  • @Maybeury007 Thank you for translation!I have to point some issues:DOINA IS AN ANCIENT ROMANIAN FOLK SONG.DOINA IS NOT A SONG OF JOY AND IS NOT A TZIGAN SONG.It is painful for Romanian people to say DOINA is Tzigan song.If Leo intended to sing Tzigan music,he could easily find proper songs. If he didn’t,I’m afraid he didn’t understand what he had sung.Gypsies have their own songs about broken hurts.Gypsies are very good musicians and they have strong musical traditions.Anyway, rest in peace,Leo!

  • @irirux

    Bravo!

    Well said!

There is a Romanian expression to describe amateurism with pretense of "expertise": "a face o varza" (essentially f--k up).

Fuld "a facut o varza" from the origin, the meaning and the purpose of a Doina.

I like the orchestration, but the lyrics and the purported "Gypsy" origin, or jolly mood of the doina are pathetic.

  • I’m glad there are positive reactions. I want to point something more: jew and gipsie professional musicians often sang in Romania for Romanian people, that was and is the majority population. So, they’ve learned folk Romanian songs for Romanian audience. It is normal: they sang for those who paid them. The fact that they kept Romanian folk music in their repertoire it’s a proofe of Romanian folk music universal value. And that’s why I've pointed Doina is not a sad song and is not a gipsie song.

  • I'll be the first to appreciate the Jewish musicians who have perpetuated and added flavor to the beautiful Romanian music. Belf's Roumanian Orchestra and many other klezmer musicians from New-York are among them.

There is a difference: they always gave credit to Romania when playing Romanian styles (doina, sarba, joc, hora) and they even sung about this beautiful country "Rumania, Rumania" or "Meine Shoene Besserabya".

But making no mention of Romania by Fuld singing Doina is wrong here.

  • @Romanisipunctum You definitely are right.

Additionally, I would mention here that it seems klezmer musicians have khazar roots. May be this is the explanation for their repertoire inspired from Romanian folk music.

  • @Romanisipunctum Sorry, I've made a mistake in my previous message. Now I correct myself: Doina is not a joy song and it is not a gipsy song, as irirux pointed 3 months ago.

  • @romarcela62

There are worse mistakes in life than this.

    God Bless!

  • @irirux Fields sing, flowers bloom Because my girl has come, Doina My heart laughs and my violin sings The Tzigan Gipsy song, Doina Only two weeks are gone, The Tzigan's heart is broken, Doina But the violin fiddles Eternally crying, eternally playing, Doina Doina, the Tzigan song of joy, Doina Doina, eternally young and eternally new, Doina

  • @Maybeury007 ORIGINAL by Leo Fuld (yiddish/german with dutch) Doina, vie du klinkst in maine oren, Doina Doina, 'ch hob aton noch nicht farloiren dain naad Doina, het Zigeunerlied des freid, Doina Doina, eeuwig jung und eeuwig neu, Doina Uber felder, uber groesen Loifen shepsen, loifen hoesen, Doina Is ai feigele gefloigen Un gekisht zwei sheine oigen, Doina Oigen schwarze vie tzvei eppel Kish ich main geliebtes keppel, Doina Lippen zaitene vie krellen Beklech rote vie morellen, Doina
  • @irirux this is jiddish

  • @benjodimenjo The spoken language may be - I don't know for sure, but the music and Doina are Romanian.

  • To clarify: the Doina is a Romanian composition. It was adopted by Hungarians, Jews, Gypsies, Ukraineans et al.

Saying that a Doina is "Jewish" is like saying that the Tarantella is "American" only because it is performed by an American.

The correct way is to give credit to the country of origin for the song's origin (such as in the video's title, here).

I don't see such specification here, which opens the gate to plagiarism, even if it's sung in Yddish (or I should say German...).

  • yiddish ... "doina"...
