Remember that first Slavic immigration to Istria and Dalmatia was in 6th century after west Roman Empire fall. Never before.

During Ottoman Empire, Slavs crossed borders into Venetian Istria and Dalmatia looking for safety against Turks. Ottoman Empire never took Venetian lands because they were well defended. This was the 2nd Slavic immigration to Istrian and Dalmatian lands.

This is not correct: Croats have come into croatia in the 6th century. At that time there hasn´t existed any ottoman empire. Before the 6th century there have lived illyric tribes. Slavs settled down in the inlands and both ethnic groups, Venetians and Slavs, lived together in peace.

Then Croatian's invasions came.

While Austro-Hungarian Empire lived, Austrians were on the side of propagating Slavic race in order to make decrease the number of Italian inhabitants in Istria and Dalmatia. Austrians were afraid of Italian irredentism.

In fact, that was why Austria recognise Italian sovereignty over 'Zara' city and arounds.

But, after all, Italian exodus began.

I agree 'ndrca'. Dalmatia and Istria roots are Latin, not Slavic. No one can deny it.

Slavs have lived there for many centuries, but they have allways been immigrants, talking boths Venetian/Italian and Croatian/Slovenian languages. This never happended to Italians who just talked their own language.

Istria and, at least, a piece of Dalmatia should be recognise to Italy.

Italian participation in this confict was crutial not only to secure France from German advance but also to make possible a victory over Austro-Hungarian Empire.

In this case, Italy was one of the allies that helped to liberate Slovenians and Croatians from Austro-hungarians.

If you ask about Turks, I'll say that Venetia (today part of Italy) fought and defeated Ottomans several times.
