I would say they are effective on game animals. I use 95 gr. berger VLD'S in .243 on whitetail out to 500 yrds with them either dropping in their tracks or running for 40 yrds before falling over. Lungs heart shredded from bullet and bone fragments on a shoulder shot. I just got me a savage M111 long range hunter in 7 mag, i will be summer crop damage hunting deer in a few months, using 168 VLD's, i will let you know how they perform.
@Velocity4000fps. I have used 168gr berger on animals in long and short ranges both, and the performance was great. I hope you like your savage and please keep me poasted with your experience with your M111 and also with berger. thanks
@Tikka270win dude, you got to be kidding me with your comment. lol
actually the targer was about 360 yards a way and because of the creek in the middle, we havd to drive around the area which took about 10 minutes, so I had to cut some part of clip out where I was driving back and forward to my target. So the car was not there, however; it wouldn't really matter. the car would be just fine as the camera is. watch my humble shots at 700 yards, then you know what I am talking about. good luck
1) the only pupose of this video was to teste theBerger bullet. 2) as obviousely you know, beger bullets are specially made for longer ranges, if it was 100 yards or so, it would fly through it without even moving it; of course you know that. 3) before making a confident statement, please take a time and look at my 700 yard shootings. this trget was realy too big for 400 yards.
Question: If you shot from over 300yds.... Why was the sound of the gunshot not delayed by +/- one half second?
The speed of sound is about 343 meters per second (1,125 ft/s). Rifle ammunition is loaded for more than twice that, unless you use subsonic loads for suppressors.
IMPO... This video is fake. and Berger VLDs will get the job done at med to long range due to the higher BC.
on my exbal ballistic calculator it takes 0.4s for that bullet out of my rifle to hit that target @363yards. @98°F, it takes 0.9s for sound to travel that distance, as you said we expect 0.5s delay. If you listen carefully, you here the bullet hitting the target first, with no delay sonic sound and the shot. But camera was not stock to the target, it was about 15 yards away, but zoomed on target, so we are looking at the vector of all these that make the number smaller, wind has its effect too.
