When I watched this on TCM a couple of weeks ago, I enjoyed it a lot. It's not nearly as bad a critics think it is, or even how Dean thought it was. I do agree when they say it's something he could've done with Jerry, but I'm glad it's not. It's a very enjoyable, sweet picture to watch. This was one of my favorite scenes; the song is beautiful. And the fact that Dean wasn't suppose to understand Italian is hilarious to me.
Joni James recorded "Only Trust Your Heart" from this film and two songs from "Carnival!" Joni was considered for "Carnival!" but it was known she couldn't commit to a Broadway run as recording and personal appearances were the foundation of her remarkable career (the same reason she decided not to do film). Anna Maria was brilliant in "Carnival!" so it all turned out well.
