A lot of my tracks have no compression but sound pretty immense and professional as long as they are turned up a lot, so in this case should I just compress all the tracks the same and make slight adjustments from there?
@TheDJBlueyE Instead of following a tutorial step-by-step, try getting more into how a compressor actually works. A compressor can be used in many different situtations.. Sometimes you need to compress your kick or your snare, sometimes you don't.

@lyricalgza fruity limiter can be used as an compressor, just switch it from "LIMIT" to "COMP". I use it sometimes, because I like that you can visually see what happens to the sound.
basicly you use compression to smooth a sound out, like the hi's and lows on a vocal track... or either make it louder, like if your snare is too low in your mix but its cranked up as high as it can go... Hope that help'd

"A 1:1 ratio means that for every 1db above the threshold, 1db will pass.
For every 10db above the threshold, 10db will pass.
For every 5db above the threshold, only 1db will pass."
Why would only 1db pass and not 5 like in the 10db example above?

Does this tutorial go for bassdrums? Or mastering the/a full song? I know how to do both but, I am still a wee-bit confused D';

I used to use this compressor, but I was not really satisfied... Now I use Vintage Warmer and it is way much better!!!

@QStormItch can i use it on my overall song, like make the whole track louder?? i find its too quiet compared to other songs
patdel92 1 year ago
@patdel92 Thats one tool during the mastering process but BE CAREFUL not to over compress your track or it can lead to distortion
