  • Is it not good enough that he loves good poetry? Who cares about his reading skills, I just love the fact that he is trying to spread beautiful words. Fuck off with the elite attitude

  • you BUTCHERED that poem. Do us all a favour. and never read allowed

  • it's supposed to be read slowly and emotionally

  • How dare you destroy a Poem in such a miserable way?!? ..that's disgusting, even worse.

    Fanculo idiota!

  • You murdered this fucking poem. You killed that fucking bluebird

  • Harry Dean Stanton reads this poem on You Tube. Look for it. It's like night and day. The guy here, is not a reader. Stanton is, and he has the voice for it, too.

  • Thanks guy!! I love this poem..and I usually hate poetry!! But Bukowski does something to me.....This poem speaks to me because I try to curb any emotion but I let it sit in my gut...or maybe I've had too much to drink!! its your call!!

  • Dude, are you reading poetry or the news?

  • how do you think Hank would have read it?

  • this video would be awesome if the ghost of bukowski came in at the end and broke this guy's jaw.

  • nice one brother

  • That poem is awesome.. one of my favorites.. Thanks man

  • This is great!!!

  • You didn't write it.

  • that's right. i didn't write it.

  • :) yay Buk!

  • He never claims to have wrote it

  • Nobody cares blairtoo.

  • All you haters f*** off....

  • put some balls into it man!

  • Mr., Im sorry that your mouth connot convey what is in your heart. You lack the ablity to read to an audience especially in this setting. No dynamic, no flavor, you understand? Please, please stop reading out loud, especially bukowski. Instead, continue to speak to your heart using your mind and vise versa. Stop, please, stop reading outloud, stop using your mouth.

  • You suck. Why would you knock him for reading a poem he enjoys. If you dont like the way he reads it just move on.

  • yes he does...it's his own way of interpretation....and thats what the great hanl chinaski want...from his fans...

make with my writings what you want but don't bother me...you got my soul i got your money

  • I love Bukowski this man does not do him justice...some people should just admire from a far.

  • nicely done :)

  • Hank was/is the "Walt Whitman" of the 20th Century. An excellent choice from a truly amazing collection of poetry. I also recommend his novel Women. You won't believe it! I give you a thumbs up, sir. You have good poetic taste. Perhaps you'll check out one of my recitations here at Youtube.

    From a fellow Bukowski fan.

  • I completely agree with you blairtoo; I love bluebird and also think ham on rye is his best novel (although admittedly I have only read a few of his books). Great post.

  • thanks for your kind comment.

  • I have the book & love this poem.

  • BRAVO!

  • great choice of poem blairtoo, but which bukowski novel would you say is the best? I would have to go with the obvious and say Post Office

  • hello blink2008,

hey, "post office" is a great choice. but my favorite bukowski novel is "ham on rye" the book about growing up and his father. thanks for the comment.

  • "ham on rye" is also my favourite!

  • If you also like the poems from The last night of the earth poems, have a look at the Bach-Bukowski pages. Lots of beautiful poems sung in combination with Bach's music and it fits like a glove.

  • HA! I can´t believe my eyes..this bowlingballout is just EVERYWHERE..lol...

Hey giuseppe! I am surprised to see your vid response here..lol.

  • I am an epidemic... LOL

  • best poem ever! good choice...

  • It's better when Buk reads it... =(

  • great poem... good choice, I love it

  • That was nice.

  • indeed, mr. bukowki, is one of my all time favs. i work a lot doing workshops in high school and often mention him.... although, for obvious reasons, he can rarely be read there.... but this poem might just work.

  • Sorry Charlie, don't pay any attention to this guy, he was breast fed by a goat as a baby, rolled in cowshit before school, and humped by a donkey as a teenager. Other wise he's ok.

  • dear whatgrass,

yours has got to be my favorite comment...so far. hank would have loved it. thanks for taking the time.

  • Thanks, but my guess is that he would have jumped to defend this guy, roaring at us; You damn bullies, you wouldn't know a Bluebird if it flew up your ass!" Do you?

  • i wouldn't mind at all. i'd find it very interesting, as a matter of fact.

  • go to the back of the fuckin class

  • barf you suck

  • I commend your good taste, but you really didn't do this poem justice.

  • This is a lovely poem.

    My favorite is "The Mockingbird".

  • I hail the simple genius of Bukowski, especially his poetry. For me, a babbling hollow man with a head full of straw, he stands with Eliot and Ginsberg... HOWL!

  • you are reading with your head.

how does one read this poem without their heart, full, beautiful, longing, exquisite, and passionate.

for once i realized how one can NOT get it.

maybe i am exaggerating, but i feel you have put my favorite poem by charles bukowski to shame and i am just 18 years old.

  • well then, psiheartyou

why don't you do a reading of it yourself and post it as a response to this one

  • Clearly, you're not drunk (or passionate) enough...

    Booorrrinnng,, Boooring, Boooorrinnnggg..

  • you need to learn how to read poetry... seriously.

  • You need to learn to respect others.

  • ...and eat your vegetables.

  • Hi Jim,

Are you trying to tell me something? LOL! Everybody sees my bluebird, and everything else I am. It's far easier to tell the truth, that way you don't have to remember your lies. Just Rambling Jim! I enjoyed this!

  • fuck you

  • I don't know who you are, but.

    FUCK YOU!

  • I apologize for the way I worded it it was very rude- but I rely do object to your comment. I love the man and his poetry and I feel that your summing up of this poem (and by extension of Bukowski) was very reductive. Youve reduced this tragic, sublime poem into a trivial, Oprah-esque, self help platitude: Honesty is the best policy. Being so passionate about B.s work and probably a drunk, I took it as a personal insult.

  • thank you for the single greatest youtube back-and-forth i've ever read. thank you

  • This reminds me I loaned my Bukowski and I need to get it back. Thanks.
