HAHAHAH Basque country? This is the government of Navarra building and Navarra is not a Basque country.Obviously you can't record an official building or the police officer when both are threatened by terrorist killers.DON'T LIE TO PEOPLE!
Si esto es represion como llamas a los asesinatos de eta?. Actos de amor?. Si no sabes como hacer para poner a los demas en contra de España puedes tirarte por un precipicio y decir que lo haces porque te lo ha ordenado España.
To hell with the photographer. Doesn't he realize that Spain has different rules than Britain? Guess what? When you leave your country, you don't get to bring your rights with you. When you enter another country, you are bound by their laws, their rules, and their customs. Either deal with it or stay home.
OK, Daniel is franco still around Faulker: you are an ass. As some people have pointed out, it could be life-threatening for those officers to have their faces on a video taken by who knows who. If you want to give civil liberty lessons, I am sure that Britain can give you plenty of abuses to fight against.
@danielfaulkner I think you are confused this building is in Pamplona and i think you know that Pamplona is the capital of NAVARRA. It is not a Basque country.
the police was just gently triying to protect his life becouse of the eye watching of the ganster band of e.t.a unfortunately if they get identified they would risk their lifes
piponic, seeing your comments,i can supose that you are not basque,or that you don't see all the reality of the basque situation, because the ertzaintza, also, hit the people that are not violent, and "egunkaria"don't have relation with ETA and all the basque know that,so,please don't said more false comments
Standard pocedure u idiot, its an official building. And no, Franco is no longer around thankgod. And theyre police officers in a spanish region where "freedom fighters" have them threatened to death, so obviously they dont want their faces recorded on video!
Thanks for the idiot comment...feel good about that. If they didn't want to be recorded why did they come towards me. I wasn't recording them. Whats the problem in recording an official building....come off it if I was an ETA member I'm sure I would be a bit less obvious. How can it be that I can Record any building I like in the UK including the M15 builing.
I guess u like being naive. They came up to u probably because they were guarding that building and they did not really know what exactly it was u were recording. Obviously ETA members have a terrorist tag on their forehead, so how could they possibly confuse u with one of them. In the UK im sure u cant walk up to the MI5 building front entrance and start recording whatever u please, just as u cant record the security areas in an airport and so on.
Naive also! Please if you want to make comments you don't have to insult me. I have been going to the Basque country for nearly as many of the nineteen years you have been in existance. Yes you can record the M15 building without problems. If i can be bothered I will do it and post it here. Security areas in airports are different....they are not in the street.
I know that ETA members do not have badges...but it would not seem that way when you are on a public bus and the GC picks the young "Basque looking" people to check their identity at the Peaje. I could almost guess down to a person who they will pick. The police in Euskal Herria use a sledgehammer to crack a nut and give validity to the claims of repression.
U r right about the insulting and therefore i say sorry, nevertheless it angers me when people make such comments about Spain (i.e. "is Franco still around") when police officers are just trying to do their job and have acted in a fully appropriate manner (they did not insult u, nor take the camera of u, etc).
I do not agree when u say that the Ertxainas use repressive measures in their acts, if anything, they deal with violent protestors in the way they must. I doubt u will see the Ertxaintxa beat up pacific protestors in a legal demonstration, if anything their is beginning to be a lack of authority in the Pais Vasco lately...
Ok leaving protests out of the equation at the moment. Why is it that Basque Newspapers have been banned. Why is it that any form of Banner seems to be banned from being flown outside a house. Why is it that they can ban a political party? You may not like what these people believe in but I think it's unfair to ban them. In a true democracy everyone should have a voice for good or bad.
I don't want to make comparisons to the north of Ireland (because they were are very different problems) but if political parties were banned do you think we would be where we are today?
Ok, u r right that political parties should not be banned in a democratic country as well as we should tolerate (even if we do not believe in) different ideologies. This is what has been attempted in Spain. Nevertheless in a democracy (UK inclusive) there r rules which everybody (in this case political parties) must follow in order to get parliamentary representation.
Batasuna (HB) violated these rules when they were a recognized political party, not only did they support terrorist activities, but they provided economic assistance to ETA itself (partly raised from tax funds).
After years of investigations and accusations, the "TS" illegalised Batasuna for the repeatedly proven link between them and ETA (high ranking terrorists were also part of the party). Note that they were not illegalized from one day to another. Batasuna was advised in numerous occasions to finish its links with ETA and become truly democratic (i.e. by condemning violent actions) before it was illegalised.
No flags or banners are banned in Euskadi unless they are a direct offense to another citizen i.e. banners encouraging terrorist actions, or glorifying terrorists (it is unfair to those who have lost a relative after a bomb ripped their life of them), the same way many countries will not tolerate u to have Nazi flags hanging out from ur window, or an Islamic jihad flag, etc.
The same with newspapers, u r wrong saying that Basque newspapers are banned; u can still find the "Diario Vasco", "Gara" and "Correo Digital", as well as the rest of national newspapers. The "Egunkaria" newspaper was closed for proven links with ETA. Not only did it aid at laundering money raised from extortion but it also sent messages to ETA members about possible police activities in certain areas.
Spain is not against the idea of a nationalist minority wanting Basque independence. If these nationalists formed a totally independent party (from ETA), and condemned violent actions as well as fully complying with the rules and laws of a democracy, the government would obviously approve of this.
What can never be allowed is that a political party uses a terrorist group as a political tool, that a party funds a group of savage murderers with tax payers money, or supporters contributions, nor that a political party publicly glorifies and supports terrorists in their barbaric actions.
Amnesty international? errm.. checked it (the 2006 report), nothing too drastic. U checked the UK report? looks worse. As much as I like Amnesty International, they do have a way of exagerating the truth. But yeah I doubt we will ever agree on the matter...
Yes I realise that there are issues here. I don't think its good either. But for now we can still record in the street. But if I had the same experience here I would also put it on this site. If people are against terrorism then surely by changing the way we live because of it makes them win?
I think thats a rather exaggerated comment "we can still record in the street", which doesnt need much saying about... About changing our way of life, I think its called adapting, and its inevitable if a group of fanatics go around planning attacks and planting bombs. I really dont think that the way of life has really changed that much, security measures have been increased, yes, but hey what else do u suggest? to ignore the fact the P.Vasco is threatened by an ultra nationalist violent group?
HAHAHAH Basque country? This is the government of Navarra building and Navarra is not a Basque country.Obviously you can't record an official building or the police officer when both are threatened by terrorist killers.DON'T LIE TO PEOPLE!
