I loved this band...any chance of putting up Ticonderoga Moon from the same album? Very hard to find, especially with JH still in the group...thanks for your taste
And if my memory is still working, I had close-up pictures of Emmylou Harris on that roll of film--from an earlier concert in NYC that summer! I lost many pictures of her and the band! That really is too bad, because those pictures were awesomeand close-up! The lesson I should have learned, was to get these types of pictures developed immeaditely after the concert! And they let me shoot Emmylou, because it was an outside Dr Pepper music festival!!! Oh Well, I do have Harry Chapin pics!
HeyFolks: When I was going to college at SUNY New Paltz, I saw Jonathan Edwards, David Bromberg, and I believe Jesse-Colin Young at The Chance in Poughkeepsie! These were the early 80's, the fall of 1981, and the spring of 82! Sincerely, BobbyK
@lorrielk Those were definitely great days! I just wish the bouncer didn't threaten to break my camera after I took a close-up picture of Jonathan Edwards! He took me outside, and was seriously thinking about breaking my Minolta X-G1--alot of money back in those days---but i got him to just take the film, and then let me back in! Oh well!!! BobbyK
Moraine: If you saw them at The Chance, I can only imagine the impact of such a great band at such an intimate venue. Were you among the seven people (now numbering in the thousands) who saw The Police when they played there? There is no more durable muscial legend in all of Poughkeepsie than that one . . .
Saratoga: Sorry to say Hall lost his congressional seat to a well-funded Tea Party / Republican nitwit. He had a short but distinctive run -- especially in relations to veterans' rights. None of which detracts from the greatness of his music with Orleans. That first vinyl album is self-titled and remains one of the most amazing debuts ever recorded -- an ahead-of-its-time blend of rock & reggae & funk and crackerjack writing & muscianship. It may, in fact be their best album. Cheers
This is one of my top five favorite albums of all time!!! I recorded it to a CD, so that I could play it in my car and made copies for many friends who only knew them after they went "commercial". It's so great to see so many youtube videos of them still doing the songs off this album live years later. I saw them in the early 70's in Poughkeepsie and they were amazing!!
Wells Kelly. God Rest His Soul. What an excellent drummer/musician. miss him every time i hear the band, especially Waking and Dreaming, the title cut.
I play it in A and it"s done using the D chording in the A position at 9th fret. Just get your chording and then concentrate on a fragmented rhythm ( Hall is excellent at this funky rhythm style )It"s not difficult to determine the chording ( A to G to D on the opening chording and then B minor -Gb minor - E on Please be there ) The guitaring to this Orleans song is deceptively simple. Tongue Tied , Business as Usual, Ticonderoga Moon. Really brilliant musicians to watch. Saw them @ Salty Dog.
Saw them at the old Capitol Theater in Port Chester NY. they may have opened with this. I got my old band to cover this several years later. turned out to be one of our best tunes !!
I could've swore this was on the same album as Reach and was recorded at Muscle Shoals Sound Studios on Jackson Hwy. The band I was in , in the late 70's early 80's did this and Reach as well.....great vocal songs....
This is off the very first Orleans album, before their hits. It also contained Half Moon (covered by Janis Joplin). It contains some great songs and was never released on CD. What a crime -- someone should put it out on CD. Pleeze...
I lived in Woodstock when this album was recorded and was lucky enough to spend time with the band during many of their gigs at the Joyous Lake. John Hall still lives there with his wife Joanna, I believe and is actually a local congressman. I am sure that he is reachable and I have always known him as one of the most fan friendly musicians of all time...just the type of guy who would honor your request personally...if nopt...with an actual release if legally possible.
Geoff: You're right about some things in your comment about John Hall & the great Orleans. But he's no longer married to Joanna & lives over in Dutchess Co, where he is indeed a very busy congressman. He's had to priceless interview / singalongs with Stephen Colbert, including a terrific duet singing The Star Spangled Banner. Or was it America the beautiful? anyway, prolly available on youtube. Cheers - Jeremiah
Thank you so much for the update on John Hall. I've wondered for years about him. Our group used to sing all of his songs. They were always a hit. He was an amazing musician. I'll have to catch up with his doings. Dang I liked his look.

If you can't figure out the chords to this song you shouldn't be playing guitar.
I heard them play this live. This group was REALLY good.
