Yes, he's the lead drummer. If you pay close attention you'll see that he has a noticeably different part from the rest of the snare drummers and the supporting drummers will drop out from time to time. On the pipe band sheet music that we studied in my percussion ensemble class they were usually written as two different parts; a soloist and accompaniment.
In some pieces, the parts were really quite different as well, not just dropping out and coming in as a unison.
I used to play football for the clansmen, and when these boys lead us out on to the field, I'd be loosing my mind, only seeing red and wanting to pillage an english town or something
OMG it brings tears to my eyes , i`ve been in the USA for 25 yrs now and go to Scottish Festivals in Alma Michigan which i really enjoy , but it not quite the same as being in my home land , Gourock Scotland , i so miss the pipes, hills and water
I can listen through it over & over again.. It doesn't lose any effect on me, pretty much the best medley I've ever heard.. well earned world champions !! all the best from Germany
Dont know much about pipe band drumming but is the 4th snare from the left a little too animated? Cant argue the playing isnt superb however.

In the Worlds Dvd its hard to see what uz are doing..but its clear here.

horrible place to hold a contest.
what is that a rubber track? it must be so hot to play on. and how do the judges get around the band?
bizzare..i guess it's to accomodate that big grandstand with the fans. but it seems
there is an echo coming back from that big overhang as well....strange.
background looks nice though...with the
mountains....surley there's a better location around.
