Can anyone tell me, did they ever release this on cd or dvd? I feel like buying it but can't really find anything like an album title for it on the interwebs...
I never really appreciated James Brown for his vocal prowess. I liked him but grew up in the 80s/90s, knowing his work from pop culture - the song and dance numbers we all know, where it seemed screams are mixed with moves. Performance routines.
But this video is pure genius. I've got new appreciation for him, Ray and others who exported a true American art.
@RamboRambone I saw this yesterday for the first time - absolutely amazing!!. I saw the Godfather perform once in Toronto as The Police Picnic - The Police were the headliners. The Godfather was "greeted" with boos and name calling ("Get off the stage, old man!!). He went on despite the rude welcome, played a 45-min set (the cape, etc.) and was greeted with a standing ovation (crowd: 30,000+), did an hour encore. Never seen a performer win over a hostile crowd like that.
One of the best musical collaborations ever to take place. Sheer unadulterated genius.
