I really like the Arctic Monkeys and enjoy most of their covers, agreeing with some other opinions that have already been better stated, how they should add their own feel to a song, or else there's no point in doing the cover. However, this is probably the one time I don't like what they did. Whatever they added, they completely stripped away the feel and theme of the music. It's still good on the ears, but it feels like they lost the point along the way.

@MrTs1994 im twenty, and admitadly i have an extensive music knowledge, the older the better. the nick cave original is a classic! the only cringing is directed at you my friend. and don't get me wrong i love arctic monkeys seeing them at LCCC 28th July 2007, and again at the Manchester Apollo (the one that got released on DVD) not to mention having all their demos prior to their debut album storming the charts. i got all the hard copies. but the original is ineffable. broaden your horizen mate!

I love this, its just so intense and heavy! I like both versions of the song but I prefer the cover. And for all those people who are saying that the original is better- surely the fact that Arctic Monkeys are playing a cover shows that the band likes and respects Nick Cave, and that they have a similar taste in music to some of the Nick Cave fans? I like Nick Cave's version better because it feels greasy and has a good flow to it, but that doesn't mean I'm going to rage at somebody for doing a cover without trying to keep to the original style. Sometimes it ends well. It's all just down to personal preferences, nobody should get butthurt over it.

Arctic Monkeys do a good 'young skinny lads with attitude' thing, and they play music and smoke cigarettes well. But they're still only young skinny lads with attitude.

Attitude and fashion are passing. Substance, style, depth of feeling (where the fuck is the *fear* and the *terror* in this version???) - these hang around a lot longer. It's clear whose version will still be listened to in 2050.

But hey, ignore me and enjoy the song :)
