  • In Mexico we drink Chelas (beer), not only to the hot but also for the cold (between more colder better) and any excuse is good to empedarse (get drunk) or conbeber with the güeyes (friends). Drinking is not bad the downside is that you do not measure.

  • I don't drink at all would I still be accepted

  • Ha, where I live, people drink all the time any time so it's not a big deal to see people drinking during the day. But, sadly, I am allergic to beer.

  • In my country it is a lil bit inappropriate to drink alcohol in the street during daytime so I was a lil bit surprised to see my Korean friend drinking beer on a hot day in the park. However I personally think it's ok to drink one or two cans of beer on a hot day in the open. Especially for Korean people, because I observed my Korean friends became much more relaxed and better at speaking English after a couple of beers haha

  • Beer can be ok, but we must be very mature while drinking. Anything we dont know how to control, we will eventually keep doing and doing over and over again.

So the healthiest way to drink, if you ever decide you need to, is one or two beers. If you're really trying to get refreshed, like Hyo Jin said, there are many other ways to be refreshed :)

Unfortunately, since alcohol is the #1 drug that seems "ok" to do, many of us start drinking from a young age and it becomes a habit. Unhealthy habit

  • I don't really drink during the day

But I think especially if it's sunny and hot, you shouldn't drink alcohol, it would make your head spin even more, and your body dehydrate :S

  • I'll stick to the grape soda too. =)

  • It's weird for me because for some reason, I feel like the only alcohol I can drink during the day and not feel strange or uncomfortable with it is white wine xD Anything else, whether it's beer, liquor, liqueur, etc., I can't drink it in the daytime because it feels odd and out of place xD And, honestly, I really only like to drink during certain activities anyway, like listening to music or drawing, or playing the piano, and even then it's usually only one or two drinks lol

  • i can't hold my liquor---one drink, and i'm wasted---have to sleep it off for at least 12 hours...

  • I say....no. I'm with hyojin I don't particularly like all that stuff anyways and it is often abused (though there are plenty of people who can drink just fine.) I think drinking should be reserved for nighttime.

  • European influenced Pub culture is much different than Korean pub culture or etiquette

When I moved to Korea day drinking seemed to be frowned upon but when people when drinking at night ,many times it seemed very excessive

Company drinking is an entirely different story

Anyhow, different then what I was used to and as long as nobody is getting hurt or hurting others than all is cool

  • very interesting and entertaining episode

Regarding day drinking,it was really odd when I first moved to Korea

I was accustomed to the more European thinking about drinking, sometimes we went to the pub at lunch for a couple beers and lunch or after work and if there was a game or even then the men all came over no matter what time or day it was

  • I think beer is alright to drink during the day. But wine and vodka should wait until the evening

  • Personally I don't like to drink alcohol but it's quite common for people here in the UK to drink during the day. Well I say that, but it's mostly during summer when it's quite acceptable to drink during the day as long as it's only one or two beers.

I don't like people who walk around in public drinking though, whether it's at night or during the day!

  • Hello, I would like to clarify a question that suddenly pops up in my mind. Since I thought it would be the best to post at the latest video of yours, I'll ask here. Why is it 시간이 없어요 and not 시간을 없어요? I'm not sure but my mind keep me thinking that the first one is saying 'time don't have' as in it's not having something, which is not mentioned and the latter one is saying 'don't have time' which sounds fine to me.

  • @angieeeful Hello, actually "시간을 없어요" doesn't make sence. ^^ Unlike in English when you say "I don't have time" Korean says "There is no time". In Korean the verb 있다/없다 Never mean "to have/not have" (even if we cannot translate it differently because of how different this two languages actually are) but to exist/not exist or something close to this idea. So when you say "시간이 없어요", "시간" is always what it do the action (of not existing).

  • @angieeeful Ah one more thing, what I say is true with whether "do the actionof 있다/없다". So for instance, if you want to say "I don't have money" you have to say "there is no money" "돈이 없어요" you cannot say "돈을 없어요" because this is the money that do the action of not existing. I hope my explanation will help you. ^^

  • @GenLiu Well, I suppose that in that sense of saying 있다/없다, here it means 'to exist'. Thus, saying 시간이 없어요 means 'time does not exist' while 시간을 없어요 means 'does not exist time'. So 'time does not exist' will mean that there is no time, and 'does not exist time' just don't make any distinct sense. So we cannot substitute 있다/없다 itself as 'don't have' on this kind of context, am I right? WELL, I AM A DEEP THINKER IMO.

  • @GenLiu Also, once I was contemplating why it is 이름이 뭐에요 and not 이름을 뭐에요. Although I don't understand, the first one is obviously the correct one as everyone is using it. Therefore, I tried to 'explain' why is that so to myself by thinking. The first one sounds like 'Name is what' and second one is 'What is name'. I know that the first one is because of the English sentence structure where '5W1H, inquisitive words' always come first when you want to ask about something. So it changed my way of

  • @angieeeful (sorry to continue here) thinking to think using Mandarin (I speak Chinese too). 이름이 뭐메요 will be (你的)名字是什么, asking what one's name is whereas 이름을 뭐에요 is 什么是名字, asking what the word 'name' means. From here, I concluded that the first one is the right one. So, whether you want to ask one's name or what the word 'name' is/mean, you'll say 'What is (your) name'. If you want to ask one's name, then it'll be 'What is your name' and the meaning of 'name' will be asked using 'What is name',

  • @angieeeful (still continuing) which make sense, in ENGLISH, for the fact that '5W1H, inquisitive words' will be put in the beginning of the sentence. Then, overall I thought that 이/가 is kind of ambiguous, where it can be saying that the noun preceding it does something, or even let the noun before it be the topic when you're asking, in some sense, which is in this case.

  • @angieeeful Really sorry. Just wanna say that the first one 이름이 뭐에요 is right in terms of when you're asking what one's name is. I also realised that I reiterate the fact of '5W1H', which is actually not really meant to be reiterate, but just repeating out of my half-consciousness when typing all these so I'm sorry. Last but not least, to let the noun preceding 이/가 to be the topic is for when you're asking what the noun is, in Korean, and not emphasizing on WHAT the noun is, such that it becomes

  • @angieeeful (-.- I'm just too curious and inquisitive to continue) that you're asking what that thing or noun is/mean. ALL THESE WERE 'EXPLAINED' BY ME THROUGH THINKING, WHICH I DO NOT CLAIM THAT IT IS ACCURATELY RIGHT. THE PURPOSE IS FOR ME TO ASK WHETHER ALL THESE IS CORRECT BY SOMEONE WHO IS NATIVE KOREAN OR KNOWS KOREAN REALLY WELL. OMG, FINALLY, 감사합니다! Someone answer me ASAP :)

  • @angieeeful Ah I got it ! Your problem is not the verb but the particle. In fact the particle 이/가 has a really global meaning. You can imagine this is like pointing something with your finger. For instance 이름 뭐에요? what you want to know is 이름 so you have to point it with your finger 이름이 뭐에요. Following this logical it will maybe be easier to understand. 이름을 뭐에요 is just impossible to translate (for all I know) this is just pure grammatical mistake. If you have some other question feel free to ask^^

  • @angieeeful ~을 implies that the word that it is attached to is a direct object of the verb that is used later in the sentence. for example "이 책을 샀어요." "I bought this book." 시간을 있어요/없어요 doesn't make sense because 있다/없다 are being verbs and a noun cannot be the direct object of the a being verb.

  • Cool. However I think it really depends on the person. If you can drink responsibly anytime without going overboard and making an ass of yourself by getting drunk and causing others grief, then I see no problem with it. The thing with drinking during daylight hours is that you are more visible to others and it is likely that your actions will be noticed if you are in a public place. For me, I like a nice cold beer or two after I've mowed my lawns or done some gardening :)

  • Do whatever you like as long it doesn't hurt anyone else , as long as it's legal i don't see any reason why not to. It's just not anyone elses buissnes if you like to drink a beer in public.

  • I only drink when I am eating Bulgogi. ^^

  • Not cool. Alcohol is dehydrating, so to me it does not make sense drinking it as a thirst quencher, when the sun is hot, as in the video.

  • i can't remember the last time i ever drank anything with a straw, or a bendy straw for that matter. i'm gonna try it with my next drink

  • if you did this in australia you would get a $300 on-the-spot fine for drinking in a public place.. 0.0"

  • i quit drinking. drunx annoy me

  • it doesn't matter what time you start drinking, just don't drink too much too often. I don't have a problem with people who smoke weed during day, just don't smoke too much too often!

    All in moderation :)

  • Hey guys! Thanks for always subbing these amazing videos. However, I would like to see the korean and english subtitles at the same time! is it possible?

  • Hyojins drinkin dat purple drangk

  • Bourbon for breakfast

  • I hate beer due to my own reason. I am a Muslim. In Islam beer is forbidden for Muslim. Drinking-selling-making-pouring or carrying it is illegitimate for Muslim. Non-Muslim isn't forbidden to make-pour-carry-sell or drink it among themselves. Historically, there's a kind of traditional beer too in Javanese society. But Islamic influence eliminates beer from the culture. However, I believe beer has a delicious taste. It's said that beer is one of promised drink served in paradise.

  • @istanamerah

forget the supernatural and enjoy life. You can't hate beer if you've never had it before.

  • agree with Hyojin. 술은 나쁜 거예요 ㅋㅋㅋ

  • Well, daytime drinking is okay, I think. But better is at night of course xP

For me it's not weird, cuz here where I live ,some people drink alcohol really early, before 12 am O.o there are cases that even at 9 am haha xD

  • Muy bueno el video, muy gracioso, tomar cerveza no es malo, pero durante el dia, si estoy reunido con amigos, si tomo cerveza, pero no tomo solo.

  • It's so not cool to drink at all..even worse if it's during the day >.< From watching dramas, i was so surprised at how koreans drink alcohol as if it were water. Some ppl in the west don't handle alcohol very well. Some turn aggressive, and, like it was mentioned in the video, some cry ^^"

  • I come from a family that goes to a lot of college football games (Go Blue! It's great.... to be... a Michigan Wolverine!), most fans drink before the game and afterwards and it seems totally normal to me :)Some even sneak drinks inside too. I don't drink a lot though, I used to when I was younger but most of the time I would drink pop on a game day... after college anyway. When I was in college I was in the marching band so I pretty much just got water back then ;)

  • Not cool at all especially if that drunk person is ajoshshi who sits next to you in subway :P

  • I don't drink, but I think drinking with control at any time of the day is fine :) Smells fine too! LOL!

  • Hyojin An nuna i hate smell of alcohol :D.

  • Comment removed

  • I'm with Hyojin, drinking is not good any time of the day. :D

  • In Mexico is a crime to drink on the streets, so when I came to korea and see many people drinking on the streets, it's was so weird for me! xD

  • @pumpfever Lol

  • please, NEVER drink alcohol ^____^

  • @goodnewsskywater Hey my friend i agree with you. =)). BTW the smell of alcohol is not good :(.

  • well, i'm on the healthy side, it is better not to drink unless it is really necesary

  • Well I totally understand Kyeongeun, I think when it's sunny you really wanna just sit down and drink a cold beer...but nowadays I am really not into getting drunk anymore like in the old days. I have practically become anti-alcoholic LOL. Especially since i have been to korea, i must say, people get drunk there all the time, no matter what time of day it is, i really don't like it.

  • Are there any drinking in public laws in Korea?..It looks like their in a park or something..

  • sukjins face at 4:26 is too good - you should really do beer CFs!!

  • ill stick with coke since i cant have beer or anything yet (: 1.5 years to go till im 21 hehe

  • i don't like the smell of alcohol either! bleh... i'm good with cola ^.^

  • Comment removed

  • i drink cola ~

  • well in my country people drink all times of day. lol. greeks love beer and wine so yeah, even in the middle of the day, with their lunch, they drink. but not too much. at least not all of them. personally i don't like alcohol at all. not wine, not beer, not pretty much anything. i have to be in a really super awesome mood to drink wine or whatever. thankfully i don't get a red face either when i drink. :)

but generally i think that if you can handle your liquor then... i guess it's ok.

  • what ever the time is day or night, i think alcohol is not cool. I lived without it for 25 years and don't think that i missed out on much. If i see someone drunk, I realize how good it is to have a good grip on reality. Some people might say its nice to fly in the clouds, but i say I like my feet firm on the ground.

  • Come on now, that straw is so adorable! lol

  • I think Kyeong-eun is right nothing is wrong with having a few drinks moderately no matter what time it is. Getting flat out drunk is never a good idea, but it's really a bad idea for a daytime activity. I think drinking at night is more popular because at that time all the really impressionable children should be cleared away from the places where people go to party and drink. Just making it easier for them to stay innocent children a little longer

  • I'm on Hyojin's side (in terms of beer). I really love me that Irish coffee :D

  • I just don't like beer, so I prefer cola. :P But I do like wine the most and I have some every once in awhile. Though I do get the red face from just one glass. grr. I hate that!

  • not cool Hyojin is cool :D

  • Well I hate Alcohol, I don't get what's so great in drinking it, for me it doesn't even taste good and I don't like to see drunken people. I'll stay to my beloved Cola! ^.^

But wait, isn't it very common in korea to drink alcohol? I always thought in korea you drink to be, like, polite?

  • I'm with Hyojin-eonie ~ i think alcohol is NOT cool.

I will just stick with soda ^-^

  • Comment removed

  • If u can control is not bad drinking in day time, of course it depends on what u drink too and where u are. I am not a big fan of beer but actually there is nothing more refreshing than a beer+lemonade on hot days :D

  • I havnt drunk wine and i dunt think to drink it at all !!!

  • it's not cool. since i don't drink at all like Hyojin-nuna. :P

  • I noticed a subtle tension throughout the video. But it's okay because this is a sensitive topic to many. But, I'm with Hyojin! I can relate to her the best here :)

  • i think it is more important where you drink, rather then when.

here in Berlin it is very common to see young adults with beer bottles in their hand at day time.

but i can't stand it if i see this on the subway or such places-_-

  • Hyojin with the grape drink! *clicks thumbs up*

  • Hite맥주 마실래요 ^^

  • Oh my goodness! I 'm drinking the same beer right now. Hahaha. but i just got off from work and it 11PM, I really needed it. Hahaha

  • Drinking a few during the day isn't bad as long you don't go overboard with it. I always like having a cold beer on a hot day. It does become a problem if you start drinking during the day and keep drinking into the night because you'll probably not last long at night after drinking all day.

  • I love an afternoon beer!!

  • Hyojin sounds so boring! Kyeong-eun is right that Cola-chicken is for children! I'm all the way for some beer when I'm out with friends!

  • Kkk, I'm with Hyojin. I'd rather have a soda! kk.

  • One or two beers on a hot day is fine once in a while, but not every day, nor every night for that matter. Never while driving or working. Moderation is key. If you HAVE to drink to have fun then you may have a drinking problem. If you get into fights or get into all sorts of trouble when you drink, then you shouldn't drink at all.

  • Day drunk is lots of fun! When I come to SK I want to throw a couple back with Kyung-Eun noona. :)

  • I think drinking during the weekday is wrong unless there is a special event or reason.

  • During the day ... no no ... i guess in the weekend is fine, because you're probably in your day off. During the week give me a feeling that the person doesnt have a job ... at night it's okay as long as you don't get drunk.

  • I'd be happy to join them for a drink any time. One drink is enough... maybe two.

  • I'm glad that Hyojin didn't drink. ^^

  • well everything in moderation is fine

  • 24 oz. can of beer + afternoon walk = simple joy of life

  • @tambermelon58 I prefer a 40oz bottle.

  • Well, I was in the Navy and we drank way too much back then. So, these days I hardly ever drink and when I do I don't get a "buzz" until I drink several beers or shots so it's just not worth it.

Drinking during the day in the rural areas of the U.S. presents the problem of finding safe transportation. If you have a couple of beers then want to go see your friends, you can't because you'll be over the legal blood alcohol limit (and you're dangerous behind the wheel!).

  • Comment removed

  • I approve :)

  • hmm, drinking is okay during the day. As long as the person isn't being loud and annoying. Personally though. I only drink like 3times a year. So I would much rather have a cola over beer any day (:

  • I personally don't think drinking a little is bad. It only becomes bad/inappropriate, in my opinion, when one becomes drunk and doesn't function well.

  • Let's get wasted. TGIF!!

  • I agree with Kyeong-eun, as long as it is with moderation. And not by yourself.... why is that when people go on vacation it is ok to drink early but not in everyday life? As long as its with moderation and isn't bothering anyone, why not?

Why does Hyojin think all drinking is bad?

  • I think drinking during the day is fine, so long as it's just casual and maybe only one or two beers or something. But getting drunk/tipsy during the daytime is lame and makes you look like an alcoholic. Unless there's an all-day party/festival thing going on.

  • I don't drink at all, but since I've come to Korea it's been really apparent to me just how huge the drinking culture is... so I've had to learn to drink socially at dinners and whatnot at night because it really does ruin the mood if you refuse to drink... But I don't think I can drink during the day... I would rather just drink water. :P

  • @jayolean Korean/Japanese drinking culture has a dark side... with co-workers/supervisors, you're pretty mch expected to drink with them, even if you don't want to. I have Korean friends who say they've been pretty much forced to drink to their limit when they didn't expect to because their higher-up kept giving them drinks, and it's really rude to refuse someone who's older than you.

  • I agree with Hyojin. Drinking is bad.

  • I think it's not good... If drinking becomes too casual then a person's tolerance becomes better, then they drink more at night because they want to experience feeling drunk... So then it becomes bad for their health. I think if they want to drink a lot, then save it for a couple of nights.. Not all the time, during the day or like that..
